How wide can I go for tires on stock 08 R/T 18" wheels

Alot of people are saying 255/50R18 all over google.

But I'd like to know from you guys & gals:

What is the widest tire you can slap on the stock 18s?

I would think 255 would be way too much and rub.

I also want to get a mid-grade performance option with decent tread life and wet/dry traction. Noise doesnt concern me all that much due to the CAI and Exhaust I have on the car.

255's are the widest I'd go on the stock 7.5" rims.

255/50R18 are 28" tall, 255/55R18 are 29" tall. both will fit without rubbing.

stock optional size for 2011+ are 245/45R20's which are 10mm (~3/8") narrower, and 28.6" (~.4") shorter than the 255/55R18's

they seem pretty nice and have the speed and performance ratings I need.

Plus the tread pattern looks awesome.

Im running firestone firehawk 255/55/18's all the way around, amazing tires wet/dry with no rub or issues. I know they come in different widths if you want the old school look. I know a guy running the 255/55/18 in the rear and 235/50/18 in the front for a little stance and the handling is spot on.

like above 255/55/18s are good fill up the wheel well not bad too, no rubbing. ran nitto 420s 255/55/18s on my 07 RT till i stepped up to 20in rims

I love the firehawks myself, had them on my old 83 Camaro in college... but the Destination ST's have a much better speed rating and are readily available locally.
