Turn Indicator...Not Indicating?

The problem started last week, I was driving and used the turn indicator but it didn't do the usual 'click' instead it made more of a 'crunch' type sound; I made the turn and then my ESP and BAS lights came on. The traction control lights eventually turned off while driving but my turn indicator (whether it's left or right) wont quite click correctly. Then suddenly today my right indicator wont engage at all, the lever wont stay up and can only supply the short term indicating (when tapping the indicator in either up or down signifies a short three blink for quick lane changes in case someone did not know this)

Also, on occasion if I'm making a turn (sans turn indicator) my ESP and BAS lights will come on too.

So what do you guys think may be the cause? I'm more than likely taking my car up to the shop to get my brake pads replaced and will probably get them to fix the indicator but I wanted some insight on the possible cause for this issue.

I don't think this can fix my problem, gave it a shot but nothing improved. The turn signal stalk wont stay engaged and I can hear rattling inside the steering wheel column when I'm making any turns.

I'm taking it in Tuesday for some work and figure I'll get their advice on this. I appreciate the help Ddaddy.

Too bad it wasn't an easy fix.

Let us know what you find out. I've heard of a few signal stalks coming apart and failing. I'll be curious to know what the actual issue is.

Well I'm beyond pisssed for the total...over $600 but I talked them down because they were over charging on parts. Two things needed replacing:

Turn Signal Stalk - 68034897AA ($80-$100)
Clock Spring - 68034898AB ($150-$175)

They were trying to charge me over $230 for the clock spring and $125 for the turn signal. Took a bit to convince the parts manager but he decided in my favor which was great. Still pissed about the unwelcome surprise repair...

Wow, that sucks.

Well, at least it's fixed. I've only heard of a few failures like this but they do seem to happen occassionally. I've never been able to put together a common cause (like year, model, production date, etc.). It makes me wonder why it happens.

It's like my wife's 2005 Grand Caravan that suddenly had an O2 sensor fail earlier this year on a vehicle with only 44k miles on it. It only gets good fuel and has been driven on the highway for more than 28% of it's miles.

Why would the sensor fail? Dunno, but there are multiple reports of it happening on the various Forums that cover the GC. There doesn't seem to be any common thread for failure there either.

Yeah, I can't wrap my head why I would have this issue, it's not like I gorilla handle the steering wheel. The mechanic has no clue why it would happen.

Wow, that is one big nasty bill. I feel your pain bro. Unexpected spending on radon broken parts. It can be really frustrating, especially when you are taking very good care of your car.

I am glad you have it all sorted out though.
