Ok so I just ordered the Escort 9500ix and it looks pretty sweet. Wife bitched about price when I told her but whatever heh.. Also ordered the rearview mirror mount and the mirror tap power cords so you can power it right from rearview mirror.. mind you I haven't received my car yet, so I went to the dealer to check on what mirror type is in the Chargers

OOPS! These things have like ZERO neck like any other mirror ive always seen. There doesn't appear to be any way to hang a radar detector under the mirror!! dammit.

Do you guys use visor clips, or weighted bean bag that sits on the dash? The Challenger has a perfect mirror for this as it has a long neck and there is a little door flap on the mirror where the mirrortap power cords would plug into.

WTF haven't the OEMs made little power taps on the back of mirrors to plug radar detectors into? Theres nothing more ghetto than an ugly ass power cord and detector hanging off your windshield dow nto the smoke lighter. grrr:confused:

All you need to do is run 2 wires from the radar detector. Use shrink tube over the connection point so it looks nice. Hide the wire in the head liner down the A pillar under the dash to the ignition harness. Use a volt meter to test the wire for one that should read 12v consent when the engine is on an nothing when the key is in accessory. Ground the other wire and enjoy the radar detector and hidden wires. Total time should be 30 min to an hour.

Most of us use the suction cups, with the detector mounted off to the driver side of the mirror between the top of the mirror and the headliner. You may also need to get a tint strip across the top of the windshield to help conceal the unit from prying eyes. Done right you will never need to remove the detector from the windshield.

Yea on the 2011+ there for sure is no neck! Most just use the suction cups. I plan on mounting mine under the mirror by drilling the mount into the bottom of the mirror, so I can just slip the radar on and off if needed. I already have it hardwired!

you dont have to go clear down to dash to find power, I used old phone cord[ utilizing one connector for detector] went from mirror area tucked under headliner to drivers side front pillar [it pops off] and there found hot wire and earth wire in harness [key on] under pillar. Made pins [with soild wire and connectors] to slip into back of harness [ no spliceing] see photo , I got passport 8500 velcroed to top of mirror and working good but thinking of slipping suction cups off mount a sliding mount under headliner ? it a clean install with power on and off with start-run button and have smart cord in glove box for rental car

Does anyone know where the wiring harness is in that mess around mirror? Seriously WTF is with this design? The Challenger has the perfect mirror with that little door flap that opens to expose the wiring harness.. That's where the MirrorTap harness I bought would plug into. The Chargers and 300s are wrapped up airtight.. I want to tap power off the mirror if possible not the A pillar, ideally not the fuse box and damn sure not off the smoke lighter. There is a mount that looks like it may work for this (and other no neck mirrors) but its like 100 bucks grrr..It clamps around the mirror itself and not the neck..

well I looked everywhere and I cant find it now heh.. It was designed for Mercedes' that also have no neck. It was like a scissor clamp that pinched the top and bottom of the mirror. It said the mirror had to have a flat top and bottom and it looks like the Charger mirror does. It wasn't that attractive from the picture I saw. 100 beans for an ugly ass clamp?? hmmmm

Why buy what you already have just take the suction cups off the mount you have and get some double sided tape @ Home Depot Lowe's or Ace and make your own. Realize though it is pretty permanent and attempts to remove it will tear holes in any tint strip you may already have.
