If you're worried about charging a newer iPod (i.e. 3g iPhone, 2g iPod touch, late 2008 iPods) you can use one of these http://cablejive.com/iphone_3g_charge_converter.html
I have one in my charger for my iPhone 3G and they work great.

The iPod integration kit (part#82209617AD) for the '06/07 models charges via USB, you will not need the adapter.
I just found that out this past weekend when I installed the iPod kit in my buddies '06 R/T. :bigthumb:

The Mopar iPod integration kit (http://www.mopar-accessories.com/en-US/Dodge/2006/Charger/partlist.aspx?DivisionId=2&Year=2006&VehicleId=27&CategoryId=1001&GroupId=2082&SubGroupId=3334) is compatible with your REF radio, it's a little pricey retail but you can get it for less if you shop around a bit, only downside of the mopar kit is you lose your Sirius presets anytime you use it w/your iPod.

It works with my iPhone 3G which has very similar hardware and the same software, I would say there's a 99% chance that the 2g Touch will work just fine.
I hadn't heard that it was being discontinued...

So let me see if I got this right. AB is the FM one. AC is the first one that was announced by Chrysler/Apple. ( The one that alot of people bought right away.) So their Ipods worked great until they bought an Ipod that charges via USB only. And then Chrysler responded by producing part AD??? I'm sorry if this has been covered before, but I just got an Ipod Nano 4th gen. (all alluminum) for xmas 2008 so I'm just learning all of this stuff in the past few days. Right after I learned the integration kit was discontinued.......

That sounds about right, I guess charging via USB was added in the "AD" revision of the product.
It's a real shame they're discountinuing it, hopefully there will be a new kit to take it's place (maybe one that doesn't erase Sirius presets?).

The optional HD plug-in is a separate unit that is independent of the factory radio. You'd access it through the iPod interface and not the factory radio but yes, you can get the HD plug in if the iPod interface will fit your radio and get HD stations.

Hi:
NO! It's NOT an FM transmitter. Those are lame. This is a direct connection so you get full digital quality with no loss. You won't lose your presets on your radio. I'm not familiar with the Mopar system but I am sure this is quite similar.

Just fitted this and it works great. One question though, when the radio and ignition is turned off the ipod seems to stay on forever, just paused. Is this how it should work?

I'm not 100% sure, but if you are worried about your battery, don't worry - the iPod uses very little current to charge and won't really make a noticeable difference in your battery's charge.

It's not the battery that concerns me it is the fact that the Ipod remains powered on and may therefore affect the Hard Drive life adversely.

Once an iPod is paused, it shuts itself off after a certain amount of time. I forget if it's 1 or 2 minutes, but if you wait - it should shut off :)

But you said it paused. How long after it pauses have you waited to see if it turns off or not? I wonder if Apple changed the design and the unit won't automatically shut off when paused like all the earlier ones do (including all the ones we have here)?

I left it for at least an hour and it was still illuminated and in pause mode when I returned to the car.

Do you have the version 1.3 firmware?? I know that there was something with battery usage updated with this upgrade from itunes. Maybe when it is plugged into something that provides constant power it thinks it in a "docking station" of some sort. Can you change the wire that is hooked to the battery and put it into an ignition switched source. Not to sure if this is done like older cars since it is a CAN system. Been out of the audio industry for some time. If you can't, just for a test..disconnect the hot wire and see if shuts off after a few minutes. If it does, maybe PAC can update their instructions on how to hook up a switched source.

It sounds to me like Apple changed something (or check your iPod's settings perhaps). The unit itself has no way to command the iPod to turn off, only play, pause, skip, etc. I would be willing to wager that this same behavior would occur with the factory iPod kit if it happens with the PAC kit.

My mistake. I was leaving the car and returning later to check if the iPod was still on. The iPod does shut off after a short time but when one opens the door or uses the remote unlock it powers on again.

So it looks like the unit is hooked up to the interior lighting power which leads me to believe that you can hook this unit to a switched source ot just leave it.

I simply attached it to the harness going to the radio using the male/female connectors supplied as per instructions. I think I will leave it as it is.
