Ok I just finished re-wiring the entire setup and used all Kicker wiring including the RCA interconnects. I ran the RCAs on the opposite side of the car from any power wires and I STILL have engine whine, and my big amp will still shut down if I turn up the bass any at all. My voltage stays right around 14.4v when it's running and around 12.5v with it off. Sometimes the amp will play louder and longer with the engine off. My interior lights dim real bad too even though the voltage changes very little with the engine on or off...so something is up with the wiring and I don't know what it could be. I just got it all looking how i want but i'm tempted to rip it out and have a stock radio so I don't have to mess with this crap.
any help?
Also want to mention I have two air compressors hooked to the battery and they operate just fine and draw more current than the amp.

i have the same wiring set up in my car and i have not had any problems also my amp does shut off just like you described but i think its cause my amp isnt built for the subs? i didnt even think of what your mentioning but i can be wrong??

well the sub is a dual 2 ohm wired in series for 4 ohm mono and the amp is a kicker 450.2 so it should be able to handle that just fine
i just wonder if there's some weird wiring issue with the car because the voltage is fine.

yea i have an earthquake 2000 wat amp supposebly lol and my subs are 2 12" kicker cvr's and every time i slap my subz for a while the amp goes into protect mode....
ive been shopping for a new amp and that amp seems too small for 2ohms i plan on getting the kicker zx750.1 i think thats it but yea this amp will do the job and not let the amp over heat i have a couple buddys who are running that set up and havent complained....
