I have an 06 SE, and have been looking at subs lately. I know it's easy to put 2 subs in the trunk where there is plenty of room, but I personally like the air movement and feeling of having the subs in the actual cabin, as you would if you had subs in the back of an SUV. Would it be possible to mount subs in the rear deck?

So that you can see the front of them from inside, and the magnet and back be hanging in the trunk?

Another alternative would be having the sub box in the trunk and porting it through the rear deck. Which would be easier?

Thanks a ton.
Asa

Ok, thanks.

What way do you suggest that would sound the best?

subwoofer in a proper enclosure built to the sub's desired specifications, and an amplifier powering it to it's specified power handling ability.

If you were around here I've got thousands of dollars of equipment for sale! lol.

In your opinion, which do you prefer: ported or sealed?

got two threads for you

if you do one in the hole already in the rear deck, you'll need a free air subwoofer.

A ported box into the cabin would sound 1000x better than installing a 8" sub in the deck

Agreed. But it does make a difference with ported or sealed in what kind of music you tend to enjoy.

Yeah, I didn't even realize there was already an 8" hold in the deck until after I made this thread. And 1 8" isn't going to do. I'm planning on two 12's. I'm confused exactly how mean 'into the cabin.' I drew this up in paint real quick, not to scale, the enclosures would be in trunk. I wasn't sure if you meant the subs should be basically going into the cabin like the diagram on the left, or be ported into the cabin like on the right. Thanks.

I'd be using the subs for rap/hiphop mainly. When I listen to rock and other stuff, I normally turn the bass down.

I had a box bolted to the rear deck with the sub extending over the deck (inside).

It was a great idea yet it didnt do what I wanted. It was definitely a nice upgrade but it wasnt a great sounding box.

interesting. I'd rather not cut into the deck enough to put the subs in there though.

I had to do a system like this in a house one time, due to structural supports being 12" on center instead of usual 16"... It was called an elephant trunk I think, it basically was a sub in a box with a big long flexible tube as a port.

There's also this DIY guy that had a pretty great idea for a home audio setup... you could easily adapt it for car use and it may save some space at least... Don't know how it'd look though... could be cool, could be ugly, but worth the read.
