Update: Recieved and installed the Mygig RER today and all is well :bigthumb:
Guidence directions on the EVIC work perfectly w/o having to take it to the dealer for a Starscanning  Haven't had a chance to test the iPod integration or uConnect yet as both needed parts are still in the mail.

==================================

Hello All,

I'm looking to upgrade my factory REQ radio to the 09 RER mygig unit.

I have read that I will need to have the car Starscaned for it to recognize the NAV properly.

Anyone out there who has upgraded their 08?

Will the RER work at all before having it Starscanned? (or is it just needed to EVIC integration)

Or is this the same as the uConnect w/the 08s where it's dead to the world until Starscan tells it to work?

Thanks much!

- Dan

I don't think that it has to be starscanned for it to work properly.

I think it only applies if you have EVIC in your car.

I say just install it and see if everything works just fine.

BTW, where are you getting the MyGig from? Vender?

I have not upgraded mine yet, but that is definately high on my list once I get the money together.

thanks for the info, I was hoping it was only the EVIC.

I'm looking at getting it off of ebay from this guy http://myworld.ebay.com/ebaymotors/pingos_world/ he looks to have pretty solid feedback and sells them for a great price.

No if you don't have EVIC you do not need to starscan you NAV, will be plug and play and done in a max of 10 minutes.

Thanks Rabanicj, glad to hear that it's plug-n-play on the 08s.

Hopefully after I get the NAV installed and get it StarScanned the updated will also allow me to see the uConnect info when calls come in (for some reason my current uConnect doesn't show anything on the EVIC even though the dealership had to StarScan it before I could use it)

Yeah, I have seen some from him....the other person to check out is Mr CD1:

You want to make sure you get a GPS antenna to go with it.

Also, if you were not aware, you need a LOW SPEED unit!

yea I remember you correcting me a few weeks back when i thought the Charger had a high speed CANBUS ;)

I'm still debating if I want to drop the extra $400 to get a uConnect mirror, A pillar and jumper harness. I'll probably go the economical route and get the $40 stand alone mic.

I was looking at Mr. CD1 also, he's a bit more expensive but throws in the GPS antenna and the OEM manual which is nice, only thing is he isn't listing if it's the 2008 or 2009 model, I want to get the 2009 since it has iPod integration support.

Either way looking forward to having a NAV unit :D

I would say go the cheap route first, with the mic.

See how you like the sound quality from the mic and if the other end of the call can hear you okay.

Later on, if you still want it, you can get the mirror.

I'm using the "pod" mic with my current uConnect setup and it works ok, most of the time people don't have too much trouble hearing me. I'll probably leave the uConnect mirror for later as another "mod" ;)

Can you post a pic of placement of your "pod" mic?

Thanks

Here you go, I know that the install instructions say to mount it on the A pillar but I don't seem to have any issues with putting it where I did (and it looks way better IMO).

Do you have to get a GPS antenna even if you already have a satellite radio element antenna? If so does it replace the existing antenna and is it the same size where it will fit in the same hole?

according to the install instructions for the charger you stick the add-on GPS antenna to the top of the air ducts above the radio, factory I the GPS antenna it is placed above the driver gauge cluster.

When it comes to the Mygig RER nav unit what is the difference between the "high-speed" and the "low-speed" versions and what would I need if I'm adding it to a 09 R/T R&T?

the "speed" refers to the vehicles CANBUS network speed, all LX vehicles (Charger, Magnum, Challenger & 300) use the low speed bus, other mopars such as the Nitro, Town & Country, and Jeep Wrangler use the high speed bus.

Keep in mind that you cannot use a high speed unit in a low speed vehicle and vice versa (I do believe there is an adapter out there that will allow you to use a low speed unit in a highspeed vehicle though).

Surfice to say that you'd be looking for a low speed unit for your Charger.

Yes, as they are two different antennas. You need one of them for Sirius satellite radio, and you will need a GPS antenna if you installing the RER MyGig (w/ navigation).

If you just are installing the non-navigation MyGig, you do not have to worry about getting a GPS antenna.

If you are buying a MyGig RER radio used on eBay, some of the sellers do offer it in a package.

You can just install the GPS antenna on top of the radio in the dash.

It is possble to put a MyGig in a 2006-2007 vehicle, however you will definately need a MyGig Adapter:

http://www.coastaletech.com/MYGIG_ADAPTER.htm $289 - $325

I think you will also need the Navigation Bezel, but not 100% sure!

...I think you will also need the Navigation Bezel, but not 100% sure!...

If you use the NAV bezel you will need to fill about a 1/4 inch of space top and bottom, if you try to use the standard bezel you will need to dremel/cut out the sides to make room for the mygig (I believe it's the proper height).

Oh ok... thanks for the reply. Everything you read from the manufacturer says you can't put the mygig in the 06-07 year models. Some how I figured there was someone smart enough out there to make it work.
