G'day,
I was hoping a couple of you guys could do some leg work for me.
Living in Yellowknife, we are often subjected to what we refer to as the YK bullsh*t tax. Basically, people think they can charge extra because we live so far north.
Case in point (I think), the dealership is trying to sell MOPAR headers for $1935 a set. Given the prices posted on line, this seems a little high.
Especially since the CAI I just ordered seemed to be comperable in price to the ones available in the US.
Long story short, could one of you southerners talk to your local dealership and see what they're selling the headers and cat back exhausts for?
I appreciate the help.
Also, since I am so far removed from the tuning world, I may need some answers / opinions in the furture.
Cheers!

I didn't check the dealer on this item. But I can tell you the book they use has price, & labor time so they can give you a complete quote per job. Maybe the price he gave was installed.

If you give me the part number on the headers, I can check for you. I checked on the MOPAR cat back here in Calgary as I was originally going to put that on my R/T. But the only part that DC Canada had on the books was V6 specific. I know because it was the same part number that was given to me when I dropped into a Dodge dealer in Ontario to check on the price and that number was on some U.S. web sites as V6 specific.

Thanks for the help.
I've been a little tied up work (I guess I need to do it to pay for these toys).
The dealership called me up and asked me if I wanted the headers.
I told them I was waiting for some info from down south. They responded by asking me to check with them again before ordering anything.
They also explained to me that there is a specific % mark-up on all parts, regardless of their cost, which means 30% on a $1200 item is a lot more than 30% of a $200 item.
It explains some of the mark-up, but not why is almost twice as much.
I'll take a look at the links later today.
Cheers!

I'm gonna be coming up to Hay River NT, on the 24th and 25th of March, how long of drive is it around the lake from yellowknife? I could see about bringing some tax free parts up for ya! Let me know and i'll phone the dodge warehouse here in edmonton and see what the cost price is on those headers.

Nice! Actually, there's no PST up here either, but I'd be curious to see what the guys in Edmonton are charging for everything.
The headers up here are $1935, SRT-8 rims are $1290 each and I haven't even bothered asking about the cat-back.
I'll call the dealership up here to see what they're charging.
It'll be nice seeing another gear head up here!
Oh, and it's about 4-5 hours (I think) between Yellowknife and Hay River.
Cheers!

Yeah your gettin'screwed bigtime! I looked into headers and the Mopar ones are like $1300.00 plus.
The Hedman headers (much much nicer) gains of like 42 horse at the wheel! are only 360.00 US plus install. Which is gonna be a good five hours.
Probably eight if ya do it yourself.
