Not sure if i like my mounted above rear view mirror. I kinda like it at the base of the windshield so i can keep tabs on it....
Where did you all mount yours?
p.s. I picked up the 9500ix.
I had the 8500 X50(Blue) which i was in love with but this 9500ix is very nice....

Mine is above the rearview mirror passenger side. It is a Cobra that detects front & Back and it has a wireless remote that displays what type of radar and all the controls are on it. I have that on my AC vent where I can see it.

where are you tapping into for power on that? is it running off the power supply for the mirror?

As high as possible is critical.
What do you mean by that? Is it good or bad to mount it higher? Does it perform less efficiently if it's mounted near the roof?

Mine is hung just under the mirror and the radar detector is up against the bottom of the mirror and that keeps it from shaking.
I got the bracket that mounts to your mirror arm here:

Go here to get a mini power cord that plugs into the back of your mirror....no more dangling cable.

Pic here as an idea. Check post #18. I have ny mirror adjusted so my detector is touching the bottom of the mirror.

I used the mount like netnathan. Here is a pic before I hard wired it in. I used the direct wire kit and wired it to the passenger A pillar for power to rid my self of the coil cord pictured. Guess I need to get some updated shots....

I keep mine right under the mirror, just peeking out enough for me to see the lights flash.

Ok all, i went ahead and stayed with the above the rear view mirror mounting location. It was not that hard of a transition coming from the base of the windshield. I have the 9500ix which is working well with all the red light cameras here in town and it is storing false alarms so it does not go off as often... it evens tells me how fast i am going when it receives a radar detection! I wire the Smart cord from the cig lighter. The small control unit is between my seat and the console for convenience. I can tuck it away when i dont want to see it. Anyways, all in all everything is working great and i like my setup. Thanks to everyone for their replies!

I have mine right next to the rear view mirror on the left. I have an aftermarket mirror so it wont fit on top.

I have the same 9500 in red and it is great!! I have mine mounted mid windsheild under the mirror, cord is too streched looking for me to place it above the mirror.

i have the 9500ix and it is mounted at the bottom of the windshield center. According to people i have talked to when laser is used it is aimed at the center of the grill. So the lower it can be mounted the better.
Hope that it helps.

when radar is shot it's usually at the center of mass of the vehicle, then at closer range its aimed at something reflective (headlight, big shiny emblem, etc). When the radar detector is at the bottom of the windshield, it has a LOT less of an "eye" range (if you will). Think of it if you were a tiny man standing where your detector is and you can turn 360 degrees in all directions, obviously you can see a lot more higher up.
However; I personally hardly speed, and have always had my 9500 mounted at the base of my windshield (because of the wire). I still get KA and laser hits for REEEEALLY far away, so it's always worked for me.
I'm glad this thread got bumped though, Im gonna look into the invisicord.:beerchug:

I think maybe your confusing radar with laser. Radar, the beam spread is so wide, they are lucky to hit just one car, let alone any part of that car.
