Is the factory alarm system on a 09 RT any good or just another overpriced blinking light?

Alarm system? Eh, useless to stop anyone from messing with your car, it honks the horn and blinks the light. But, if your concerned about theft, dont worry, the factory antitheft is world class, and has yet to beaten except by a tow truck.

What do you say to mine? As long as I'm within 1.5 miles of my car, if anything triggers any of its zones and sensors, my keychain tells me of that immediately. I park on the street so I likely will never hear the alarm itself, but the remote on my desk... for sure.

Oh, I wasnt referring to all alarm systems, he asked about the stock one. Which, when armed, honks the horn and fashes the headlights if one of the four doors is opened. One like your, not useless if you want to know when someones messing with your car. Much more functional than the stocker.

My point was that you have to decide what you want to do. Me, I'm not going to search out and confront anyone messing with the car. Concealed carry in MD is almost impossible to get, and lacking that, you stand an even chance of bringing fists to a gun/tire iron fight, never a good idea. And I"m worth much more alive and well to my family than a piece of metal and rubber will ever be to me.

I spent 20 years in the military, Ive got no qualms fighting, but it needs to be something worth the risk. So, vandalism, I'll let insurance handle it. Theft, as noted, has to be a tow truck, and thats both not very relevant here, and happens so fast, it'll most likely be out of range of a pager in minutes.

that doesnt qualify as world class to me!! there is no light as far as i know so no deterrent. Maybe the sensitivity is set too low. I used to kick the runners on my Pathfinder and that would set it off which is good...
most alarms will go off if you try to get out of the car with the alarm on.. have to check that out.. also there is no inside lock on the trunk release button which is pitiful..

no wonder they're no. 3...:slap:

I think the system is set so when you open it from the inside it turns the alarm off. Try this; roll the window down, get out and lock it with the key fob. Unlock the door by pulling up on the lock, manualy, then open the door. See if that sets the alarm off.

I doubt that there is any alarm that can deflect a house brick aimed at the window. I just want to make sure that no-one can drive off by hot-wiring the ignition. The stock key/alarm means that they need to use a tow-truck and my three beagles would let me know if one of those backed up the drive in the middle of the night.

Stock Factory alarm has a red blinking light in the cluster. If you don't have that then you did not get the factory alarm.

Well i'm gonna check for the light. doesnt the keyfob with the panic button signify an alarm? 08 se plus.. i better read the manual.. if not dodge will get a nasty letter from me..
i am starting a thread; "what do you wish your charger had?"

for me; heated sideview mirrors. a travesty they are not included on an se plus. also one inch more of windshield height to see traffic lights (east coast) without stopping 20 feet back from the intersection...
but thats off subject for now...

NOPE!! no factory alarm!! i have a thread about it. not that it matters much but no insurance reduction either... the good hands people and i'm sure other ins. companies have a small reduction for alarms. I dont know if they have to be factory or not...
