View Full Version : Saleen SMS Blower.... Anyone installed one yet?
Sal SRT-8

I am really interested in this blower but not sure if they are out yet and, if so, has anyone installed one yet? I am hesitating on spending any money on performance mods until i can see how this bad boy performs at the drag strip and on the dyno....
I am contemplating on buying the Kit first OR doing Intake, Predator, Headers, HF Cats, Cam & Heads, in that order. I figure i will spend the same amount of money either way i go BUT if i get blown i will do it all at once and then add on the cam/heads, exhaust later on down the line. My only problem right now is money:eyemouth:

I originally saw this over at LX Forums:
LXForums link (http://www.lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?t=125795&highlight=saleen+supercharger)
PRESS RELEASE:
Orange County, California. (August 7, 2008) Automotive icon Steve Saleen and his new company SMS are proud to introduce the first product in the SMS line of ultra-high performance technical parts, the SMS 296 Supercharger™, designed, engineered, manufactured and assembled in-house at our 150,000 square foot facility. Mopar owners of 2005 to 2009 HEMI 5.7 and HEMI 6.1 vehicles are now able to boost under hood horsepower by up to 45% with innovative new dual-screw supercharger (patent pending).
With over 30 years of racing experience Steve Saleen and the SMS design and engineering team have created the ultimate supercharger for Mopar enthusiasts. Now the aftermarket community can take advantage of the SMS 296 Supercharger™, which will be standard equipment on the highly anticipated 2009 SMS 570 Challenger™ and SMS 570X Challenger™, with power ratings from 500 to over 700 horsepower respectively!
The SMS 296 Supercharger™ is packed with innovative features created by SMS engineers to provide optimum boost in an exceptionally compact package.
At the top of the list is the Delta-Frame™ internal intercooler (patent pending), with dual thin-core intercoolers and single-pass coolant flow. The intercooler design provides for a considerable increase in surface area, which has the effect of minimizing pressure drop and optimizing thermal characteristics. The intelligent configuration also acts as a mechanical diverter for effective air transfer into the ports, while the angled manifold enables packaging of runners that are much longer than in conventional layouts.
The long intake runner optimizes airflow efficiency and provides the SMS 296 Supercharger™ with an extremely low profile. This arrangement means that it nestles comfortably within the V, and under the stock hood of all applications, as well as accommodating a bypass system for 3-way cruising off-boost.
At the heart of the supercharger are the asymmetric multi-lobe compressor screws, which are machined in-house by SMS on state-of-the-art CNC equipment. The screw concept is among the most efficient of all supercharger configurations. However, it is also one of the most challenging to manufacture.
In order to minimize parasitic losses, it is crucial to maintain incredibly tight tolerances between the profiles of the asymmetrical lobes. Running dry at speeds of up to 16,000 rpm, there is no room for error. In finishing the screw profiles, the SMS flexible CNC machining facility is working to exacting tolerances. The flexibility of the equipment also means that changes in the screw profiles can be accommodated for different applications.
The innovations on the SMS 296 Supercharger™ carry through to its exterior, with SMS Tailor Made™ custom finishes and powder coat color options to match most Mopar colors. Now enthusiasts can match the impact under the hood with the one at the rear wheels.
The complete SMS 296 Supercharger™ aftermarket assembly looks great and installs easily under the stock hood of all applications including; the Dodge Challenger SRT-8, Dodge Challenger R/T, Dodge Charger SRT-8, Dodge Charger R/T, Dodge Magnum SRT-8, Dodge Magnum RT, Chrysler 300C SRT-8, Chrysler 300C, Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT-8, and Select 5.7L Hemi Dodge Trucks.
Please visit www.smssupercars.com for more information. For a broad understanding of the workings of superchargers please visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supercharger

I think chris did it...I mean had parts made and installed but no I dont think SMS did the work.
From chris
"We took the hood, the front clip, rear clip, trunk, and rockers to Auto Explosion in Gardena for modifications and paint. Esteban and his son Damien "Ruff n Tuff"
are award winning painters and there shop puts out show cars all day long. They custom made this 1 off grill/Hood for me. I love you guys. We got the factory "Hemi Orange" paint code from Ted/Jeff at Mopar Super Center, Thanks you guys. MSC played a huge roll in my build. They shipped alot of products straight to Tony at BES for my motor build and help expedite alot of parts for me.
About 2 weeks into my build I was invited to SMS and went down there with Cam, One thing lead to another and I worked out a deal with SMS. Had to Call Josh and stop the motor build, We need low compression pistons and a different cam, Josh didnt flinch, Got me the pistons/cam and we moved on. The thought of that Super charger under the hood was all that mattered. Saleen was a name you could trust, There in my area, and there dedicated. For backing like that, I was, and still am thrilled to death. Thank you Sean and Steve.
With all that in the works I sent my car over to the fab shop for this 6 pt roll cage, The cage is completely removable and NHRA legal, The door bars come out,
and because its removable I was able to powder cote it as well. Im real happy with it, Simpsons sent me the 5pt harness's, as the final touch.
We custom made the 3 pod gauge pillar ourselves and Mannie's friend did all the Interior for me. Suede head liner and pillars, They replaced my seat foam with stiffer foam on the sides and the did a little bit of reshaping with the bolsters. All the stitching was done in Orange. I got the shifter from Jeff at MSC.
Meanwhile back at the ranch I went down to see Jose at I.D wheels and he cut this 5 spokes for me, Had them powdercoted black and we had "Pinstrip Bob" come down and do the pin striping. TOYO st II's on the front and rear."

Ok this is trojan's car. Its pretty sick. First off the valve covers are one-offs he had made one off i'm pretty sure. They're a pain in the ass to install and really only for looks right now, i think he had them made for the hopes of rocker upgrades in the future, where as the new rocker ratios will need more clearance. Second the SMS/Techno blower does not need forged internals, these were built to run on completely stock motors and i believe that anyone at SMS/Techno will completely agree that these superchargers were built keeping in mind that most of them will be going on top of completely stock motors, except for the fact of the lucky few with strokers, which this unit will also be able to perform on top of.

Value covers are built by Moroso and they are the first set. Their were a few little things that need to be fixed on them before they mass produce them. They will not be cheap. They will be in the range of 800 bucks for the set. Also like Tank said, they were made for the larger rocker arms that will be produced very soon. They are taller than stock.
There are no numbers yet on Trojan's car with the SMS on it. It was put on the car and taken straight to SEMA. He did dyno the car stock motor and was at 396 or 398 at the wheels. Then it was removed for the stroked out forged 426. No dyno numbers because the car was built in 2 months, from start to finish. No break in miles on the car with the 426, so no dyno.
The SMS kits are not ready to ship from what I understand. So there are no numbers from anyone. Not even them.
Hope that this answers a few of your questions...

Enjoy your day... :) :)

I just got a tour of the Techco/SMS facility and they definitely have their heads in the game. They handle everything from design, R&D to installation all in house and they definitely know what they are doing. Techco was started by a bunch of guys from Saleen and they brought all of their expertise with them. They should have some more info up on their blower within the next couple days too.
