It's official!!!!
I have an agreement to buy my dream project car. :rocker:  :alfdance:
The only problem, I have to wait until Feb/March of next year to get it. The silver lining...the owner will keep it garaged for me until then! :bigthumb:
The car is something that both my wife and I want. It's a 1964 Plymouth Valiant Signet. It does have the Slant 6 (and I plan on keeping that engine in the car...after all, only real men have 6...all the others have to compensate :D ) and the pushbutton 3-speed auto. It's a 2-door and, best of all, it's a convertible...which is what my wife really wanted.
So, after I get the car, you can count on a number of GTGs/cookouts/work/bull sessions at my place. :D
And I can't forget a pic. Here's an old one. The top has been replaced since this picture was taken. I hope to have some more on Sunday.

Thanks everyone. I am beyond excited about getting this car. I just don't know how I'll be able to wait 5-6 months before I get it. This will be WAY harder than being a kid and waiting for Christmas. ;)
Between now and the time I get the car, I'll be able to plan what I want to do, how I want to do it, etc. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated. I have tons of ideas already. :D I plan on repainting the car the same color, and having the interior redone in white and blue to match. Break upgrades are a definite, and I'll eventually rebuild the engine, and most likely add the Hyper-Pak kit.
The owner didn't have any detailed pics of the interior, engine bay, etc. He said that he should be able to get some to me Sunday (the car is kept in a garage a few miles from his house). As soon as I get them, I'll post them here.

I got a few more pics today. The pics were taken on a cell phone, so the quality isn't the best.
The interior looks really good, and the engine is the 225 Slant 6. One of the previous owners has installed a "SUPER 225" air cleaner. I'm not sure if all the Super 225 goodies (intake, 2-bbl carb, etc.) have been installed, though.
Man...it's definitely going to be difficult waiting to pick up the car. ;)

nice i redid a 63 valiant convertible for my mom and that was a blast of a car. if you have any questions on parts and stuff let me know we might have some leftover parts. Dont be ashamed of a slant 6 cause a guy in my area has his hard top valiant with a slant 6 running 11's so they can be a powerhouse

I never knew that working on an old car could be so much fun! We worked about 9 1/2 hours over the weekend and got the car complete stripped and are ready to pull the engine and tranny. Depending on how much I'm able to work this week, we should hopefully have the car on the rotisserie this weekend.

My goal is to have it done by the first Classic Cruisers Cruz-In in April.
I have pics posted on my website. There is a "Project 'Gerty'" page on www.hr-mopar.info. About half-way down on the page, there are before and during restoration galleries. I'll update the during restoration gallery as the restoration progresses.

Craig, are you going back with the same color on it??? Who are you getting to shoot your project??? If you've got the place and an air compressor I can help.
ChargerSXT
11-26-2009, 08:17 AM
I'm still deciding on the color. I need to decode the fender tag.
There is a color...Valiant Light Tuquoise...that I will use if it was the original color of the car. If not, I'm considering using one of the classic Plymouth colors like Sassy Grass Green, Lemon Twist, etc.
We will be shooting the car at the shop. If you would like to help sometime, I'm sure that would be fine. Any time you'd like to help out with anything on the car (except the engine, that's my pet project :D ), just let me know.

I just got the engine and head back today from the machine shop. Here's what they did for me:
1. Bored the block to .040 over (it's now a 230 cu. in. Slant Six)
2. Ground/turned the crankshaft
3. Installed cam bearings
4. Installed brass freeze plugs
5. Did a full valve job
6. Knurled 12 of the valve guides
7. Replaced 6 valves
8. Comp cam kit (252 advertised duration / 215 duration @ .050" lift / .435 valve lift / 110 degree lobe separation)
9. Master rebuild kit (which includes all the gaskets, lifters, oil pump, etc.)
Now, I need to paint the bock and get my "leaning tower of power" back together. I have my polished aluminum 4 bbl intake, so I just have to get my new carb (a 450 cfm Holley) and headers. I'll also have an x-pipe and dual chambered mufflers. Hopefully, Gerty will sound and run like a champ.

At least for you it's a resto, when I got t-boned in my show truck it was a build from scratch, took it down to just frame and engine. It appeared in Mini Truckin' about 15 years ago. LOL
