I have been asked to help plan a charity event in Poquoson on Sunday, October 5th. Details are still being ironed out, but it looks like it will be an all day event...with a Show-N-Shine, an escorted cruise (for anyone who would like to go), and a Cruise-In (after the cruise). The event will be open to all makes and models of cars, trucks, and motorcycles. There food, entertainment, etc.
The event will be to raise money for a local family whose child is undergoing cancer treatment...the money will help with their mounting medical expenses.
I'll post more info as the details are finalized.
As always, it would be nice to have a HUGE contingent of local LXs at the event, so please put it on your calendar and plan on coming out if you can do so.

The date for the event will be Sunday, October 5th. The event will be to benefit a local family who's son who is diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing treatment at CHKD. Additionally, it just so happens that October 5th is his birthday...What a birthday present!!!!
The event will be at the Poquoson City Swimming Pool Parking Lot located at 16 Municipal Drive, Poquoson, VA.
The event is going to be a 'Show, Shine & Ride'...Basically there will be members of car clubs coming to the event to show off their rides. And of course, there'll be plenty of bikers that'll be there showing off their rides...For those that want to just attend the 'Show & Shine', there will be a minimum of a $2.00 donation. If you want to attend the ride event then it'll be the minimum $10.00 donation for riders/drivers, and an additional $5.00 donation for passengers. For the cars, if they want to do the ride, they will be given colored cards to put on their dashboards to indicated they'll be in the ride event.
Start time for the event will most likely be 9:00 a.m., with the ride/cruise begining around 1:00 p.m.
Again, I hope to see as many people as possible there. If you would like to volunteer, please let me know.
More info to follow...

OK everyone. I DEFINITELY want to pimp this event. It's for a great cause!
We're hoping to have well over a hundred cars, trucks, and bikes. If you love haning out with other car and bike enthusiasts...i a nice, relaxed atmosphere...and don't want to have to worry about getting your car ready for a full-fledged show, then this is the event for you. Think of this as an all-day BPS cruise-in...with a lot more going on.
For those of you NASCAR fans who don't want to miss the Talladega race...don't worry. We are planning on bringing out a TV to set up so that we can watch the race. :driving:
Once again...if you are free at all anytime on Sunday, please come out.
I hope to see some LXs out....

BUMP!!!!
I really hope that we can get some local LX support for this. I know that we are expecting quite a few (100+) bikes, and the Classic Cruisers are planning on bringing out at least 80 cars.
Please...if you have any spare time this Sunday, come on out, enjoy the day with us, and help support the Sharp family.
Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry that no one was able to make it out today. :(
It was truly a great event, and a great day. There were over 175 cars, trucks, and bikes (mainly bikes) registered. Watching all the bikes...and a number of the cars...head out on the cruise was truly amazing.
It was very humbling when you saw everything that was going on...all the participants and volunteers...and sat back and thought about the fact that everyone was out there to support a boy (and his family) that no one new before today.
Seeing everyone come together like they did was truly inspiring...and I'm glad that my family and I got to experience, and participate in, this wonderful event.
I will have pics posted within the next day or so. I also took (what I hope will be) an awesome video of everyone leaving on the cruise. I'm trying to get it uploaded to You Tube now, and when I do, I'll post it as well.

A message from Meg Sharp (Declan's mother) to Mark (the event coordinator):
Dear Mark,
I know that we have thanked you for all you did to make today happen, but I also wanted to thank you for a wonderful day. There have not been very many days lately that Declan has smiled so much, or that Collin was so excited he didn't know where to start in telling me something, but today was one of those days. Cliff has been so worried, scared and has felt so helpless that he does not smile much. But today he was a big kid in a candy shop! Declan was so worried this morning about what to expect that he got up at 3:30 AM and stayed awake for the rest of the day. He was so scared he thought he was going to throw up so I didn't get to help Diane set up this morning. Then we arrived. Declan felt so comfortable that he began to speak to a few of the guys, he loved the ride to Jamestown so much he waved to anyone he saw. And they waved back! He got to share excitement with his brother over cars and motorcycles and they laughed. And even though this event was to help raise money to pay hospitals bills, he did not feel like the "kid with cancer". For a little while, he forgot that whole mess and got to be a kid. And for that, you and your friends and all the work that all of you did, will live in my heart. We were very blessed today. We got to be a family. Thank you. You, your wife, your friends, the band that played today are very special people. I will never forget today.
Sincerely,
Meg Sharp
