Upgraded to a 2008 REN Navigation system in my 2006 - need some help...

So I got the Lockpick v.2 and a 2008 RER system, and installed everything in my 2006 last night. This is truly plug and play, took almost 20 minutes...

Beautiful integration, Steering wheel controls worked perfect.

I have a few questions though to someone who has done this before:

1. Need a new bezel. Which one fits? I previously had the stock Nav system, and the old bezel has too large a hole.... Does a standard radio bezel fit? What about a 2008 nav bezel? Mounting tabs the same?

2. Anyone routed the microphone from the rear view mirror Uconnect? I assume it comes in on the 10 pin connector. Anyone access to a pinout?

3. Anyone routed the GPS antenna from the stock location? I assume it comes in on the 10 pin connector also. Anyone accesss to a pinout of the GPS antenna?

Everything built in now, I guess I will have a few things for sale; Old bezel, Sirius module, Uconnect mirror, etc.

I've been wondering what it would take to do this myself from the 06 NAV to the MyGig w/ lockpick.

The 2006 nav bezel doesn't fit? That is a setback to my idea, as I have the matching Go Mango bezel that I'd now need to get painted once I found the right replacement... Let me know how the install progresses and what your thoughts are on it after its done...

OK, but what do you do with the hole? or holes, if you center mount it? Your stock Nav bezel hole is too large....

Another question: Why use a mounting bracket? There are threee combinations of mounting positions available on the front of the IP. Or is the bracket for the Lockpick interface box?

1. MyGIG REN system (Nav with low speed bus) - ap.450 - 500 on ebay if you want
2. Lockpick v2 from coastaltech @ ap/ 300 each
3. GPS, FM, and Sirius antenna adapters
4. Microphone - $20 from coastaltech

You are right. The RER has Nav, the REN does not. I got the RER (with Nav). and yes it is working great in my 06. Just need a bezel...

I know the bezel is different on the 08's mone doesnt have the holes I'm just not sure if its the same size overall to where you could just swap it out. I would order one from a dealer try it in the parking lot if it doesnt work bring it back in. I would also see about a superbee one because it comes in carbon fiber just a heads up. Congrats on the mygig its badass. Also I installed my nav antenna on top of the ac vents in the middle and it works flawlessly PM if you need more info.

I assume you used a separate antenna then? Did you try to use the built in antenna?

Thanks for the tip. Maybe I'll put an eq. in there. I would prefer a switch plate for traction control, maybe camera selection, and lights.

well if the antenna that is already on your car doesn't work why not just install another one. I have an 08 and when I bought my car it came with no nav so the antenna had to be added afterwards.

Well, maybe they meant that you just can't install it and expect it to work all by itself.

You will need the MyGig Adapter from Coastaltech (http://www.coastaletech.com/MYGIG_ADAPTER.htm) installed before it will work. This is just recently available.

That link is for something you would install if you were just installing a single DIN radio in a double DIN space and need something to take up the room left over (single din).

The issue with installing the 2008 MyGig radio in a 2006 car with a 2006 Nav bezel, is that you have a little bit of room all around the edges because the 2008 MyGig is just a little bit smaller than the 2006 navigation units were.

I think the room available is somewhere between 1/8" - 1/4" all around.

Yes, actually a little bit more, like 1/2to 3/4 inch above and below. The sides are OK. I bought a non-nav bezel for $30 bucks on ebay yesterday from a 2006 Magnum. I will try to cut/open that one up to fit the RER, sand, prime and paint. It has the cubby hole, which I'll use for the HDD movie player, and Ipod dock. We'll see how it goes.

Just bought an GPS antenna, microphone and a sirius extension, installed it all, and are up and running. Left to do is the Bezel... Love the real time traffic on the Nav system. Don't have the clock, otherwise very happy with the system.

I'm going to a sign shop to see if they can laser cut my TB bezel to fit. I am also looking to fine the wires from the rear view mirror mic and splice them into the Coastal eTech's mic harness. Anyone have a wiring diagram?

I did, Uconnect module is on RF A pillar next to the glove box. Drop the glove box by disconnecting the damper string (turn 90 deg and push down) then pull the glove box stops inward and lower the glovebox down enough to unhook the hinge (lift up). One the glovebox is on the floor, the uconnect module is exposed. The connector faces forward, press the release and pull. Voila! reverse removal procedure to assemble.

Dodge manual says to disconnect batt, and then perform a batter reconnect sequence. I could not find the sequence in the manual, so I did not disconnect. Works fine!

When the open/close button in the upper Left corner is pressed, the screen bottom pulls out and the screen slides down to expose the cd/dvd slot.

Sorry, no progress pictures, I had a RAK radio originally so the original cutout was unusually shaped. I set the bezel over the radio to get a rough idea how much material I had to remove and marked it with a felt tipped pen. I trimmed the rough opening on each side with snips, Then I used a hobby file/rasp and a lot of patience to finish the job. There are several clips on the back of the bezel that originally clipped to the radio that had to be trimmed completely off. The top and bottom trimming was tricky as the material is more delicate there.

Is there an antenna for the sirius that i can install that does not require me cutting up any part of my car? I'm also foggy on what functions work and which ones don't. I've read clock does not work and i've heard it does. Are mounting brackets required or can i just fire it in without one? I just want to know what i'm dealing with before dropping that kind of money. I do not like suprises.

Yes it can be done. It is not perfect, and some people do not accept the compromise. For me it works great. Clock works, mounting brackets are not needed. I added a GPS antenna (have two now...) , used the stock Fm, and Sirius. added a microphone (sold the Uconnect mirror so I don't have two)...

Yes the RER mygig has u-connect built in.....just connect a mic and your good to go....I have a brand new Mopar mygig mic for sale, if interested PM me.

The regular RAK CD bezel will not fit the mygig as is, you will either need to cut it to the correct size, or use a REC nav bezel and have the gaps filled in.

I currently have the REC Nav bezel and was going to fill in the gaps, but my dad just modded a RAK bezel for his mygig and it came out great, so I too am going that route now.

Bezel will NOT fit. You must modify your original RAK radio bezel. I did it on my 06 TB Daytona, takes patience, but it works.
