How to install Glove Box light with Photos

Parts Needed: See Photo #1
Glove Box Switch # 04565022 See Photo #1

Cost: Under $8 dollars

Tools Needed: See Photo #1
Drill
3/16 and ¾ drill bits
Flash Light if not done outside
File or attachment for drill to file down opening.

Installation Time: 30 minutes

Here are the steps to follow:

1. Remove all contents of glove box
2. Remove glove box. Note: This is not a simple unhook it and drop it. See
Photo #2
a. Remove clip on side first. This clip is on a retractable string so do not
let it snap up.
b. There are two tabs on each side of the glove box. Push both in at the
same time and lower glove box.
c. The glove box will need to be manipulated somewhat to be completely
removed.
3. Before you do anything else, reach up behind the opening of the glove box area on the top left hand side and make sure you feel the wiring harness. Searching with your hand and you should feel the wire adapter hanging down. This is the male end that you will plug your glove box light onto. Tug on it slightly and it will break free of the harness and drop down.
4. Use template and tape to area of installation. See Photo #3
5. Use razor blade to remove over skin.
6. Once other skin is removed you will see black plastic. This is where you will
drill some holes. See Photo #4
a. Use your 3/16 drill bit and drill four holes. One in each corner. I did this
so I would not have to worry about getting a file in a narrow area.
b. Now use your ¾ drill bit and drill a hole in the center of your four drill
marks. Again, this is to lessen the amount of filing/grinding you will
need to do.
7. Take your file or grinder as I did and clean out the rest of the area.
8. Bring wire harness adapter through your freshly drill hole. See Photo #4
9. Plug in you glove box part. Note: if it does not work, reset the interior light
by closing and opening your car door. The glove box light only stays on as
long as your interior lights are on.
10. Snap glove box light into the hole. See Photo #4
11. Install glove box in reverse order of taking it off. Step 2. C, B, and then A
12. Clean up your mess, put items back in glove box, and you are done.
13. You are now done. See Photo #5

If you want more detail photos email me I will send them to you.

Correct, from what I have heard the wiring harness is that same as the harness for the Chrysler 300. Yes, the dealer should have it or you can try one of the supporting vendors on here.

OK here are the pictures I took while installing the glove box light.

http://www.robagd.com/cars/glove-box/box-release.jpg
Start here these tabs bend in and let the box come down a bit further to get access to the cable.

http://www.robagd.com/cars/glove-box/box-release2.jpg
The tabs bend in this far to clear the dash.

http://www.robagd.com/cars/glove-box/box-cable.jpg
Then remove the cable, its simple to undo

http://www.robagd.com/cars/glove-box/under_dash.jpg
With the glove box removed, lay on your back with a flash light and look up. You should see the black sticky foam pad, it's holding the plug against the harness.

http://www.robagd.com/cars/glove-box/plug1.jpg
Pull the plug down and you should have this :)

http://www.robagd.com/cars/glove-box/dash-templet.jpg
I made a sticker templet from what was posted a few post up.

http://www.robagd.com/cars/glove-box/dask-pad.jpg
I used a sharpy to trace the templet then used a razor knife to cut away the dash pad.

http://www.robagd.com/cars/glove-box/uni-bit.jpg
Drill a small pilot hole and use a uni-bit to open it up the the right size.

http://www.robagd.com/cars/glove-box/knife.jpg
I made an attempt to use a knife to cut the square edges of the hole out. The dash plastic won over the knife. I broke the handle. I ended up useing a dremel with a carbide burr bit and then cleaned up the edge with a knife.

What package did you have to buy to get the light factory installed?

Great pictures too!

There is not a package for this. Just have to buy the light at the parts department at your local Dodge dealer.

I mentioned how cheap it was for dodge to not include a glove box light with the chargers. THis person has a new FULLY LOADED Mazda Tribute. There is no light in her glove box. She made a good point though, with all brightness of interior lights these days, maybe a glove box light is not needed but, I still want one in the Charger

Dang skimpy! A 43K car, and no light in the GB? My 13K '93 Ply Duster had a $300 Light Kit, that gave it: Fog Lights, GB light, Trunk Light, and Underhood Light. DCX is getting cheap!

Sure thing Hlzblz!

1. The part number is #04565022. When you speak to the dealer/vendor, let them know this is a part number for a Chrysler 300.
2. No, I do not work for MEPS (what does this stand for?). I work for a large mortgage/financial company located in Des Moines.

That stands for Commanding General in the Military. That coupled with the Marine Dog I thought you might be in the Military. MEPS stands for Military Entrance Processing Station. The place where you get your entrance physical and raise your right hand before you ship out to basic training. I was there about 5 years ago. I lived over in Clive over by the mall. Absolutely loved Felix and Oscar's Pizza place. I also spent far too much time and money at Prairie Meadows

Thanks for the P/N.

Scott,

Gotcha now! No, CG stands for my initials and it has been almost twenty years since I was in the Corp. It is hard to think that far back. Are you talking about Felix and Oscars by Merle Hay Mall? I have been there once and it was a good pie, but I moved here from Chicago one year ago, and I miss the Chicago style pizza. Clive is the town I live in now.

Well,
Dad says the part number did not work. Sometimes they change them, so that may be the case. Or, he could be having a senior moment:knockout: :knockout: .. Emailed him the photo of the box posted in this thread and he will try again..

In the meantime I bought a cheap Dremel tool off Ebay so I can properly cut the hole..
If I get a different part number from him, I will post it..

there was a change in numbers, if he has a 300c on the lot, have him pull the vin and get the PN that way.

We had 2 listed on LXF for that light.

I have poked arounf the LXF and have not found it yet. if anyone knows the new part number let me know. Otherwise I will get a VIN off Ebay and give that to my Dad in case he doesn't have time go get one off the lot. Too bad they don't have a cross reference when they change tha part number.

Well I got off my butt and did this today. Cost: $11.00 from my nearest dodge parts depot. Now if I had read the post directions more carefully, I would have found the wire sooner, but as it happened, I found the gray connector for the u-connect module while routing around. My tools: one box cutter with fresh blade, use to cut the dash material. A flat blade screw driver to scrape away the foamy insulation. And a dremel, used to drill four pilot holes in the corners and then a bur tip to cut around and smooth the hole.

Now I don't know if anyone else that has done this or has looked closely at the dash area where this light goes, but I could see an outline already pre-scored there. I can't for the life of me figure out why DCX didn't just put the damn thing in as everything is in place to put the light in. I would imagine that the cost at the plant would be a few bucks at best and really wouldn't effect the overall sale price of the vehicle.
Now the only thing that was weird was that when I connected everything, my right map light came on when the glove light was on. But once I cycled the key it stopped. Guess HAL needed to know a new power drain was present.

easy easy mod. Took me all of 5 minutes to cut away the vinyl and foam with a razor knife til I was down to just the plastic, then I drilled a 1/2" hole in the middle of my work area and Dremeled away the shape with a rounded grinding stone. Light popped right in and hooked it into the harness. One quirk, which is actually beneficial to me at the moment since I don't want to install the glove box yet until I find the UConnect harness (pictures, descriptions please) is that the light turns off when the reading lamps turn off/time out...minute or whatever it is. I would think it should stay on indefinitely, but again, since I can't install the glove box to depress the switch, it would drain the battery overnight if it did not turn off like that.

I just picked up two switches Saturday (one each for my Torred Daytona and wife's Black R/T with Road & Track package) and the part number on the box was 1-04565022. The only difference I see is the "1-" added to the number that was posted earlier.

I just finished installing a glove box lamp on my Charger and unfortunately on the Police Package units the plug in for the lamp does not exist. I did some searching in the wiring diagrams and they confirmed my findings. Being as I am not one to give up easily I continued to research where Chrysler splices in the power lead and I found that it was feasible to remove the right A-pillar garnish and use connector C204 which is attached to the steel portion of the A-pillar just above the dash. The wire that must be spliced with is the yellow with light blue tracer in cavity number 3. For the ground I found a nice hole in the cross car brace that the air bag and many other items attach to and used a #10 x 3/4" screw to ground the switch with. My glove box switch is now working as it should. It should have taken me about an hour to do this but I went a little overboard with my disassembly and spent the better part of two hours doing it.

For those with police package Chargers looking to do this themselves the part number for the glove box lamp connector is: 05135636AA.

Thanks CG Daytona for the info. I did the job and it worked out perfect :) My wire was very easy to find. It was attached to a wire harness, along with the coax antenna cable, with a skinny piece of masking tape. It was to the left of the glove box very close to the nav/radio unit.

Just did the install on my 07 super bee. I had to do this install after seeing my girl friends 300 with it. Was an easy install and you definitely want to order part #68026783AA as it makes the light fit perfect and look factory clean. The price is $5.00 for this plastic bezel but the light snaps into place firmly and looks like the 300's. took me about 45 minutes from start to finish. Thanks to those that did this before me to make my job so much easier. I have to say I was a bit nervous cutting into my dash board lol.
