View Full Version : Headlight Removal Steps?

I thought with the HUGE success with the GB on the halos there might be a lot of questions (from me included) on how to actually pull the headlight assembly out and install the HALO rings and how to wire them for the parking lights.
I'm under the assumption that the whole front has to come off to get to the lights...shouldn't be hard, 10 pins or so on the bottoms plus some pins and a couple of bolts right???
I know AAC has a couple of posts, threads, videos, etc on how to do it but can we consolidate a thread for people like me on how exactly to do this so we don't have to do a million searches and reads?
Help in advance is greatly appreciated!!! Everyone enjoy their HALOs!!! :)

I can get the links later but here is what you need to do:
1. Remove both front tires
2. Pull back 1/2 of the splash guard
3. Remove fascia
4. Bake headlights and install halos
5. Connect to parking lights or run wiring through firewall to a switch in the cabin.
6. Be prepared to turn heads!

I first have to give credit to the many members of this forum. I have never modified anything in a vehicle before, with your help I was able to take the first step.
Splat,
I hope this helps.
If you are installing the halos in the headlights yourself, this is the first link you will need:

I would HIGHLY recommend that BEFORE you bake your headlights that you test every halo. Each inverter will supply power to 2 halos. Here is a diagram of how the halos should be wired. Wire up the halos to the converters. Run the red wire to the positive and the black wire to the negative.

This link made the wiring understandable:

This one helped too:

Here is the ground I used:

Here is the positive power. As suggested in one of the links, I added a 3amp in-line fuse.
http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g4/kethomps/IMG_1433.jpg
here is the firewall. I used the upper entry. Cut a small slit in the rubber:

I used a metal hanger with a rounded tip to get through the firewall. Taped the wires to the other end of the hanger. Pulled through very carefully. Don't put all of the wires together, stagger them a bit.

I don't know all of the technical names of the parts. Remove this one by the drivers door:

Remove the screw and then there is another screw underneath this larger part as well:

Pull firmly towards you, there are a couple of snaps:

Here is the wiring on the LED. I used quick connectors and heat shrink tubing.

I used quick disconnects here, in case I need to remove this again:

I used conduit and cold shrink wrap in the engine compartment. You can find this at any car parts store. I used lots of zip ties too.

Everything put back together. This is the LED on:

This is the finished product. I can turn them on at anytime with or without my lights:)

I used a piece of paper and outlined the led switch. Then I taped this outline to my dash, near the trunk release. Using a dremel, I drilled a hole until I could pop the led switch in.

Got all my HALO's and plan on installing them this weekend when I have 6-8 hours to kill....lol. :dead:
I think insteal of running them off the parking lights I'm going to install a rocker switch inside the cabin to turn them on and off with. Tails will run off the parking lights I think and the po-po aint to quick to pull you over with red rings on red tail-lights me thinks.
I think I have the gist of how to wire this stuff so I'm looking forward to it, just really worried about not sealing the headlights up good enough and getting water/condinsation/fogging in there when I'm done.

why did you have to remove the front tires again?

why did you have to remove the front tires again?
So that you can remove the wheel well lining to be able to access three of the bolts holding on the front fascia.

it is very soft plastic and can be pulled back. not really any need to remove the tires.

All right, so I assisted nickinfleet yesterday installing his halo's and the tires didn't have to come off on the SRT to be able to pull the front fascia off, but I think it would make it a little easier.
