I posted this in the new member section so I thought I would re-post it where it needed to be -
Hi All:
I thought I would start out here before I dive into the forum. I just took delivery of a totalled 2007 SRT-8 Charger. If you can see the picture in my profile, it's really not that bad & if it was my car, I would fix it & put it back on the road. I am basically transplanting the entre car: engine, trans, front & rear suspension, IRS, wiring, gages, everything less the body & frame into a 1983 Dodge Mirada CMX for a customer. (I know a ton of fabrication, but that is what I do)
I am not very familiar with this car though. I downloaded the owners manual from Dodge, Have the Service manual on CD, Have a buddy at a Dodge dealer with that latest DRB (the one that has the big LCD flat screen) & I've been reading up on this car to get to know it as much as possible & clear all of the error messages in this current car before I cut it up.
The one thing that has me scratching my head though - has to do with the Kicker Subwoofer. I cant figure out how to make it work!
According to the 2007 operating manual, (if I'm reading it right) it is only supposed to work while playing a Surround Sound DVD. I've tried all of that & I cant get any sound out of it. I've checked the fuses & the voltage at the plug & I'm getting about 10 volts from 3 of the 4 wires & very minimal voltage from the other one.
The other thing that I thought was odd was that if you are sitting in the back seat watching the DVD screen, you can only get sound out of the front speakers (when both units are in VES mode). If you change the mode on the rear screen, then the rear speakers come to life (still w/o subwoofer)
and then you have great sound, but you are looking at "AM 820" or something other than the DVD on the rear screen. I've tried using the remote, different modes & different audio set up options, with key in ACC, ON, engine running or off - no difference.
I went to the dodge dealer & looked at an 08 SRT-8 Charger (they didnt have an 07) The subwoofer in that one worked with eng off, key in acc, on a regular FM radio station. I havent seen the 08 operating manual, so I dont know how different the 08 is.
I guess my questions are:
- Does this scenerio sound familiar to anyone?
- Does anyone know where I can download a VES manual?
- Are there any resident electronic experts in the forum that I should direct this question to?
I am up to my ears in tasks & I dont need an answer right away, but I thought I would throw it out there & see what turns up.
