Over spring break I decided to finish my ipod connection. Here is what I did.

1) purchase a Kenwood KCA-IP200 Black iPod Direct Cable

and a cigarette lighter USB adapter

2) remove radio bezel.

4) Hard wire usb adapter to bottom of cig lighter and tuck up out of of the way

http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n197/jw190m/IMG_0213.jpg

5) Hide rest of Ipod cable wherever you see fit

6) Cut out small notch on top left corner of rubber insert
http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n197/jw190m/IMG_0218.jpg

7) Reinstall radio bezel and run cable out of botton left corner of ashtray surround
http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n197/jw190m/IMG_0212.jpg
http://i112.photobucket.com/albums/n197/jw190m/IMG_0211.jpg

So for about $25 and an hours worth of work my ipod is connected and charged all on one cable.

Thanks for the write-up and pictures bro! I will be doing something similar as far as running the cord down by the ashtray to be out of sight for the most part. Thanks again!

how good is the sound quality on this setup? i have connected my ipod using standard headphone jack from the ipod to the one on the radio, and it seems like the sound quality is less and my bass and treble is kinda dull compared to what a cd or satellite sounds like. Just wondered if using the adapter to the jack made a difference.

I'm running my Ipod out of a pioneer deck with a simple connector from the headphone jack of the ipod to the cd player. Doesnt look as clean as that but it cost $10 for the connector. As for your sound quality abrown915...if you still running on the factory speakers that might be the cause of poor sound. I had the ipod running with the factory speakers and it sounded terrible. Now with new all new speakers and a sub it kills. I'll post pics of how i have it set up if you want.

I don't think its my speakers, I have the Boston Acoustic 6 speaker set up which I think sounds great, especially with my Sirius or using a CD. The iPod sounds pretty good too, its just that the bass and treble response is not what I think it should be, and when playing through the headphone jack adapter, I have to put the volume of my iPod to max and then crank the car stereo up to double the normal volume. Just wondered if there was loss of quality from the headphone to headphone jack connection and if the adapter that plugs into the bottom of the iPod would help.

If its not too much trouble I'd like to see your pics. Thanks.

This is the other option with a headphone jack from the ipod to cd player but not as nice and clean lookin like JW190 but it still gets the job done

The sound quality is decent. It all really depends on the bit rate of the music. But that being said the sound from the ipod "dock connector" on the bottom of the ipod is gonna be be better than the headphone jack. The headphone jack runs through a preamp which allows you to change the volume. From the bottom is not run through the preamp so it is cleaner sound. You still have to turn it up a little more compared to the radio but not near as much when compared to running it through the headphone out. Another thing you might try is turning your ipod to about 7/8ths volume. You'll have to turn up the head unit but the sound will have less distortion. I also run on the acoustic eq setting within the ipod which has more bass and treble.

Now you need a custom cover! :)

I just bought this one from ifrogz. I made the bee decal a bit too big. But you can upload any pic you want for the art.
