Hi,
I've looked around the forums a little when I first started getting serious about buying a Charger and was really impressed by the friendly atmosphere here.

I'm now at the fun part where I get to pit dealer vs. dealer to get a good price. I do have something of a newbie question though... I want to get the protection group package to help keep my two little ones (well, 2 in July) safe in the back, but none of the models in dealer stock in the area seem to have that package installed. Is this a package that can be added by the dealer or does it have to come from the factory?

Thanks in advance,
Bruce

I'm pretty sure that this has to come from the factory because of the side airbags. I had to order my '07 to get the protection group because none of the one's on the lot had it.

I thought they got rid of that option on 08 RT's... I got R&T and it was standard...

Not sure about what's standard on 08's but they wouldn't be able to add things like the side curtain airbags and such. I have the protection package on mine and it makes me feel a tiny bit safer when I'm cruising at 130 miles per hour (that's all the stock self-sealing tires that came with the protection package are rated for).

Oh, and congratulations on the new baby. I'm sure with 2 little ones you might be able to, or threatened by the spouse to, keep from buying thousands of dollars worth of mods as TBYDaytona40 suggested. If not though, at least this forum will help you save money by finding good deals and tips on how to install them yourself. :) And don't forget the dvd entertainment system for the kids. My wife's chrysler has it and that's the only reason I let her drive her car places with me in it so I can play games in the back, lol.

Hi and welcome, the side air bag answear......drum roll please........
the 08 R/T 29r package (R/T performance package) has side seat and side curtian air bags in the package....The 08 R/T 29v package(Daytona) has them as well. The only other way is to still order the protection group.

Hey thanks for the warm welcome. I had a nice sit down with the fleet manager at my local Dodge dealer and there were no Chargers configured the way I wanted in a 200 mile radius. He found some that were close, but I figured if I was going to spend $30k on a car, I didn't want to compromise. So we put in an order today from the factory.

Now all I have to do is wait 8-10 weeks :knockout:

Yes congrats on baby and I should have mentioned... If you are military or veteran, go to usaa site and look up car buying tools and if not, go to sam's club.com and look into their car buying tools. you may have to go to a certain dealer but you can get below invoice pricing. Even options are added below invoice prices for those options... sweet deal. usaa was slightly better and my local dealer gave me the same price even though he wasn't the one they listed!

Thanks for the info. I'm not in the military, but I did take my sister who served as an interrogator for the Army. I felt really bad for the sales guy ;)
