Many of you know my daughter, Levi, who is 13.
Recently (recently= the last few weeks and time before his deployment) my husband, Feros taught her how to ride a dirt bike.
She began on an 81 Suziki 100, that has mechanical issues and it's current top speed is 20mph. She's been doing great so it was decided to get her a "real" dirt bike, and he picked up a 2004 Yamaha TTR125, which she did great on as well.... cept for constantly popping a wheelie at take off, but she mnastered that clutch fairly quickly.
So she was ready for true trail riding .... and she chose to ride the old 100 as she knew the bike better .... so off we go with two of Feros buddies from work. She starts off great and we spilt into two groups... Me, my son and 1 army buddy took off to play in mud holes. While Feros and our daughter as well as another friend went slower to allow Levi to learn the difference between a trail and a nice open field.
Not long into the day a call arrives to my group that Levi had been hurt ..... suposedly we were 15 minutes away ... well I swear it took me two minutes to get her (it really did take 15 minutes to get to her, but you can't convince me of that) ... anyway ...... a truck was fetched, as well as one of the other guys wives who is a nurse and we were soon on our way to the hospital.
She broke her right ankle, she was a trooper through it all, currently she is in a splint and on Tuesday gets a cast. The type of break she has is expected to heal easily with no major intervention other than a cast.
She hit something on the trail and was trying to recover, and as with most trail riders, she did the typical reaction and put her foot down and then twisted wrong and had her foot stuck under the bike, which she pulled out minus a shoe (we have since recovered the shoe).
Everyone was amazing at getting her and I out of the woods and on our way to the hospital. She was treated on Ft Bragg, and they were awesome to her.
She is resting comfortably now, with no pain medication. She has really handled it all well.
This all happened today (Sunday, March 16)
I only hope this doesn't keep her off a dirt bike..... not that I want her to become a trail rider, but we want all our kids to have experience riding a motorcycle, so later should they choose to ride another motorcycle they have some experience to build on. (same goes for driving a stick shift car, it's a skill we want them to have)
