i got a aftermarket alarm on my charger and recently like every other day when i go to start my car the battery is dead, i got it tested and battery and everything is good but it is getting a draw of 240mA, they guy told me it supposed to be somewhere around 30mA, but i have had my alarm for about 6 months and it is just now doing it, why would it just now drain the battery? and how can i temporary unhook the alarm?

what alarm is it. and i dont believe its the alarm because MOST alarms only pull 0.8 MILLI AMPS. IS THE BATTERY CHARGED ALL THE WAY UP. JUMPING THE CAR AND DRIVING IT AROUND WILL NOT RECHARGE THE BATTERY. when you turn the key to run the regalator checks the charge level of the battery and when you start the car it gets charged back only to that level. the charging system in the car can only check to see what the battery charge is and maintian that level. it has know idea what the battery should be at with a full charge. try charging the battery on a slow charge for about 2 hours and see what happens. the way to check for a power draw is to remove the negative battery cable and jump a test light between the cable and the battery post. if the test light lites up than you have a power draw. next go to the fuse box and pull each fuse out one at a time and if the test light goes out than you found the soruce of the power drain. only do one fuse at a time and if the light doesnt go out then replace that fuse and move on to the next. cold weather can and will drain a battery and like i said driving the car DOES NOT CHARGE THE BATTERY BACK TO FULL CHARGE. once the test light goes out then look at that source to see if your cell phone charger OR what ever is on that fuse line to see if its pulling power. car alarms pull next to nothing in power untill they are triggered and the siren goes off. battery could be bad or a lose ground cable or you have run your battery down some how [playing the radio with the car off or the trunk open for a long time or a cell charger pluged in ]

Do you have a sunroof? if so you might want to take a look at this TSB:

if you suspect the alarm take it back where you had it installed and have them put a METER on your car (testing for current) make them show you the draw it has when you first bring it in and then have them disconnect the alarm ( they can do this easily) and tell them let you see the meter again if that puts you in a normal range then tell them to fix it. at least at that point you know who not to blame possibly

Make sure when you turn your key off and exit your vehicle that your head unit has no power, and that any amplifiers you may have are also not powered.

Ignition off draw is too high.Points where alarm is tied in might be keeping the CAN bus High and not allowing it to go to sleep. Some options and settings keep the CAN bus high up to 1/2 hour after car is turned off and doors locked.Check Amp draw after 1 hour and alarm disconnected.

the cd player is hooked up through a factory harness and it can turn on without the key in..so i assume its hooked uo through a accessory power but i make sure all that is off and i have no amps or anything

flip down the back seat and make sure the trunk light is out when the trunk is closed. thats the only lite on our cars that doesnt go to sleep after a 1/2 hour.

i really dont think its the alarm but theres always a chance. what radio do you have? clarion and jvc's are known for having problems and sucking power even with the key off.

Under standing the can bus is important for stereo installers , as the processors can comunicate ,and keep certain circuits alive, and not go to sleep keeping the ign off draw up to high.Switches you installed might be keeping the system alive .Turning the key off does not mean the car is off.
