Our friends over at MPH Magazine (http://www.mph-online.com) have given us a glimpse at the new Dodge Charger SRT8 Super Bee (article here: http://www.mph-online.com/web/prtranslated/00455)

And an excerpt from their site:

Dodge Charger SRT8 Super Bee First Look
Source: Chrysler Group

What They Say: The only previous Dodge Charger available as a Super Bee was a 1971 model. Immaculately restored examples now sell for $80,000 to $100,000.

What It Means: Dodge is hoping the auction mania surrounding past muscle cars will boost interest in their new special editions. It sure can't hurt.

Full Release: Offered in "Detonator Yellow" with black accents, the 2007 Dodge Charger SRT8 Super Bee is the first special edition of the "Charger on Steroids." Powered by the Street and Racing Technology-engineered 6.1-liter HEMI producing 425 horsepower, the Dodge Charger SRT8 Super Bee features special logos on front and rear fenders, contrasting yellow stitching on the seats, steering wheel and shift knob. It will be available in dealerships this fall.

The 2007 Dodge Charger SRT8 Super Bee offers Street and Racing Technology (SRT) enhancements including functional, performance-oriented styling; world-class ride and handling; race-inspired interior appointments and benchmark braking.

Before the re-introduction of the Super Bee designation on the 2007 Dodge Charger SRT8, the only previous Dodge Charger available as a Super Bee was a 1971 model. Immaculately restored examples now sell for $80,000 to $100,000.

I hope id doesn't add another 5k to the sticker price just for the decals.

I like it, more colors are needed

Prices aren't announced yet. My guess is it will be a few grand over the SRT8 for the special edition. Of course numbers are expected to be low. I wonder though...will people pay more for limited editions like they do for the classic 1970s models? I'm going to Barrett Jackson this weekend and there are a ton of Cudas, challengers, chargers on the block. Maybe $45K for a new one isn't so bad ;)

:) lol, it is for me, i want one, but if its $45k i'm out of the running!!! When you say LOW #s you mean 1000, 2000, 500?

GLHS837
01-17-2006, 01:30 PM
Well, if the SRT-8 itself stays in the 4-5K annual production expected, my guess would be one of two options. You can just order the package with your SRT-8, in which case it would be impossible to tell, or its going to be maybe 500 or so.

My money would be on the 500 units.

No Moa
01-17-2006, 01:46 PM
500 units, and a 50k price tag. Ticks me right off, make a special edition, add 5k to the price, so only the rich can afford it, and they are all scooped up in the first month. I like it, more than even a blue SRT, but i can't afford the super price tag....

mphmag
01-17-2006, 01:49 PM
just expect very low numbers of them. no announcement of course. that'll probably come with the price.

I would tend to agree with this sentiment. It looks somewhat cluttered to me. The Superbee logo on the rear quarters: cool, IF it was a straight band of black from top to bottom (no 'swoop' effect). The rest: overdone. Should've done the hood with JUST the Superbee lettering and left it body colored.

i am not impressed either....i am actually dissappointed in the look b/c it does look so much like the daytona.

but i love that hood being black with the rest of the car yellow....it really looks incredible in my opinion.

I, too, like the concept, but I'd still rather have mine all black, silver or red. So whatever the price, I still wouldn't be interested.

If I was an owner of a "Top Banana" Daytona RT, I'd be a little upset with this car's color choice. Maybe the SRT guys should introduce new color schemes (not just different looking decals) to distinquish the Dodge introduced "special" cars from the SRT introduced "special cars".

They should've made the "bumblebee" stripe wrap around the rear end like the originals. They do it on the pickups, so I don't know why they didn't do it on the car.

Is it just me? I noticed the rear as matte black like the daytona but the side decals appear glossy? I don't think it's that nice if even the thousand dollar decals don't match! Otherwise is a nice car, but probably will have an insane price. It won't even compare to the challenger i say!

Did this mod already and it is very well received at the car shows I'm attending.

The Hockey stick decal package is a logical evolution for MOPARS and are directly attributable to the "E" bodied grandparents of our modern muscle cars.

It's not for everyone, but check out www.whatifmopars.com to see it as a daily driver and frequent car show winner.

Have a good one!

Hi everyone,

Does anybody have any additional info on the Superbee such as:

Is yellow the only color available?

When will it be out and how much will it cost?

Also, on the Charger R/T with the Road and Track option, does it have the same 10hp jump as the Daytona?

Thanks!

1. Not sure, but yellow sure seems pretty tied to the whole "Bee" theme.

2. As an 07, who knows, but expect no sooner than August, but it might be like the SRTs were this year, with a late start like Sept.

3. Since its an SRT-8, it will have at least the 425hp motor all SRT-8s share. AS far as any power bump beyond that, no telling, but I expect it wont have any more power than any other SRT-8

I took a picture of the 2007 SRT 8 Super Bee at Barrett Jackson in Palm Beach on April 1st.

http://www.chargerforums.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=2569&size=big&cat=500

Photo is high res, so you can zoom in pretty close. I would have put it up here but did not know how. you can see it in the photo gallery under my handle.

It does look cool in person. Similar to a Daytona in some ways, but yes, IT DOES HAVE the full SRT 8 Package. I was told it is a numbered edition of 2000. It has some "bee" badging on front quarters, classic bee stripes on rear quarters, body color spoiler, etc.

With the SRT8 pkg included, I think it is a winner--just my opinion though...

Hello everyone. I'm new to this forum but after reading all the posts and looking at the Super Bee, I think it looks great. There are a few things i'd change if I were Dodge. I think it needs an engine tweak to about 400rwhp, functional ram air with functional air ducts for cooling larger brake rotors and 6 piston brakes. Remember, when these first came out the paint was intended to look like a Bee. It would be in the best interest of the name to continue with this look. Yellow should be the only color offered. I'm not sure what the gearing is but i'd hope for 3:73 or 4:10 gears with positraction. A close ratio 6 speed with a pistol grip shifter. Rear sways and nitrogen charged shocks.

Yeah man. I am thinking the same thing. Those SRT8 wheels look great too.
The SRT8 guys dont like it when we put their wheels on the R/Ts. I cant say I blame them. They deserve our respect because they paid $2100.00 for it.
I feel like I just bought a P4 5.0 Ghz pc and now they come out with a 10 Ghz. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. "You should have waited". When I bought my Banana, there was a black SRT8 in the showroom. If this had been there instead, I would have broke down and got it. I know this isnt the opinion of most everyone here, but I am just going Bananas over this vehicle.

humm, there just seems to be something not quite right with this look.

Maybe drop it another 1/2, Yellow Calipers or better yet Black Powder coat the wheels flip gloss/Matte maybe grey betten spokes.

Black Wing, Paint the hood, leave the scoop flat black with the lettering, and side exit exhaust before the rear wheels.

I would also hope they restick teh head rest with the SuperBee Logos VS the SRT8 Logos.

Oh well.... its not a wagon so its not quite for me... :D

I can't remember for sure when I peered through the windows of it at Barrett Jackson (I definately left nose prints), but I think the headrests had "bees" stitched into them. The cool thing was you could drool all over it there and noone cared... No signs saying "keep off".

I think it would make a nice match to my wife's Rumble Bee...I don't know how many of you lived through the 70s as a teen but this is a vast improvement over the old decal and trim ploy the big 3 used to pull...I am glad to see the muscle car still lives no matter what the color or paint scheme...

Kinda surprised at the reaction on this at a Charger Forum.......I think that it is great that those of us who love the muscle car look but need a 4 door can get the Charger with the Daytona or Super Bee options. Everyone knows its not retro looking by now so why beat that horse......it gives some of us the choice that the Mustang, Challenger does not......I kinda like the new age muscle look of the Chargers and the functionality is a plus.......and I think that even "professional" types deserve a hot cool car....why should we drive a boring car just because we have a "professional" job. I'm a professional woman, grandmother of two who drives a Magnum now and am getting ready to trade my cool wagon for a TorRed Daytona......would love a Super Bee version since I also have a Screaming Yellow GT but I saw one on ebay with a price tag of 50K......

Use Eagle One Nano wax on the flat black, keeps it black, no streaks if you apply to a rag and wipe on, buff off, only IN the garage, car surface cannot be hot.

OK, the Bee's are shipping and the do NOT have the whole hood blacked out. Broc2238 was correct.
In fact the 10 I saw had no blackout on the hood at all. They had the side sticker and trunk, but nothing on the hood. These had left the shop in Windsor that does the blackout treatment so looks like the black hood was nixed.
There may have been a small amount of "detail" black around the hood scoop but my view was too short.
They look very sharp in yellow.

I'm in to classic cars and with them the absolute best car is one that's completely stock and not tampered with. It's no different with a new car, I'd much rather have it like it was when it left the factory.

albertadodgeboy
09-24-2006, 12:19 PM
I am also into the classic car scene. I both agree and disagree about the best cars being totally stock. I bought the wife a 72 mustang fastback a few years back and it is not numbers matching and has a 429 scj under the hood. The car did not come with that in 1972 but did in 1971. We both like the car and enjoy to drive it. Now if it was a numbers matching car would we enjoy it as much? Probably not as we would be afraid of something happening to it. Now I am building a 68 hemi dart clone from an original dart GTS. Is this a bad thing? I don't think so with the price of original Hemi darts.

Look on Ebay. Theres about 10 2007 Yellow Bee's on there. Not a one has a bid over $42,000 and thats the Buy it now price. I'm in the process of buying a Daytona 2006 and new. But the SRT 2006's can be had for $34,000 in pristine condition on Ebay. That way be the way to go.
