Dodge takes 1,2,5,6,7,8 at Daytona today.
Not much of a NASCAR fan myself, but its a bit reminisint of the old days of racing, seeing the Mopars out front.

What a race!
After all the talk all week about Toyota and Hendrick's Chevy's, it was great to see Dodge finish not only 1,2 but also 5,6,7,8 I believe.
With all the bad news of late, what a boost for Chrysler and Dodge!!!
That might have been the best results for Dodge in a race in history!!!
TBYDaytona40

I was most pleased to see Jeff and Jimmie at the back or out of the race. Then Hendrick's third car gets taken out. Wish it could have been 4 for 4.

Way to go Dodge! Love that a Charger won! Of course I might be just a bit biased, being a Charger owner.
You know that everyone at Dodge is popping the corks on the drinks tonight. I think they will definitly see at least a bit of a rise in sales due to all the publicity on this win.
Everyone wants to own a winner.
This week, every Dodge dealership in America is gonna have the Charger parked on the very front row of their lots.
What a beautiful sight it will be.

Pretty sure to boost sales they would have a Charger out in front anyway, at least in my opinion.

A lot of times I see the trucks taking up all the room on the front line because Dodge makes a good truck as well. This week will undoubtedly be the week for the Chargers to be placed up front though.

Yea, I was bored out of my mind. The cars are slow, any chimp can drive them. What are the first 490 miles for other than wasting time!
Nascar is a joke, slow cars that are all the same. No similarity to production models in any way at all.
The drivers, well they are nothing but walking adds. Bring back REAL stock car racing and dump this joke of a sport. Back in the day almost STOCK cars were turning 200mph + laps at Daytona on skinny tires with drivers that knew how to drive in a car that was basically a PRODUCTION car except for a roll cage and minor changes.
Todays race is a race of "Kit cars" that any chimp with money can race.
Also, I expect Chrysler to pull out of racing very soon, The cuts area coming cause the company can't firgure out that if you don't advertise, you don't sell cars and trucks!

So, I was pleasantly surprised with the final results! Didn't Dodge finish 6 of the the top 8? Anyway, 1-2 is awesome, and did you see the way they pushed past Stewart? I too am glad that Toyota did not win...my g/f was all cheering when Toyota made up the first 3 cars on some lap...but i told her "Watch out for Newman, I just sense that something is up".

Happy about Dodge, but also very unhappy about the fact that there's almost no difference at all between the makes anymore. They're all the same!
At least when I was a kid (60s and early 70s) they actually ran cars with which you could identify as they all started as basic production automobiles. Today these things are virtually identical race cars with minor front end badging differences, aren't they?
Seriously, if you saw one of those without the front end and graphics, could you even tell if it was a Dodge or a Toyota?

Congratulations to South Bend, Indiana's own Ryan Newman and the Alltel Dodge Team on their victory of the 50th running of the Daytona 500.
And kudos to Penske team member Kurt Busch for the assist.
Now thats teamwork!
Your'e both winners in my book.

I'm only going to quote this part of your rant & say that you are probably wrong. Watching the post-race coverage on Speed last night, Ryan Newman said that Bob Nardelli went to all Dodge teams and told them that if they won the race, they would get an extra $1 million from Dodge. Also he said that with Nardelli, Dodge brought on a lot of people to work on the racing side of the business; people familiar with chassis, engines, etc. Also, they saw that NASCAR didn't help with Avenger sales so they went back to the Charger. The Avenger didn't translate well into NASCAR while the Charger does. I don't think that Chrysler isn't leaving racing anytime soon.

Yes, and to add, Penske himself said he was a close friend of Nardelli, thought highly of him as a CEO and was glad he was in the top position at Chrysler. I think Penske knows something about running a company and his high remarks about Nardelli as the man to right the ship at Chrysler I found surprising. Maybe he is the right guy and the press is wrong.

I think it has a lot to do with safety as well. And following up on the relationship between Penske & Nardelli, Penske said that he served on the board of Home Depot when Nardelli was running it. So he does know a thing or two about Nardelli.

I was about ready to start a "I'm sick of NASCAR" thread. Getting six out of the top eight spots almost makes it worth all the overexposure of a highly contrived "event".
I still wish Speed would dial back the NASCAR and monster truck coverage a bit and show some racing. :smoke:

When I attended my first live NASCAR event, it was DW who was driving the 88 Mountain Dew car. Richard Petty won the race, Dave Pearson came in second and Richard Childress was a driver.
I remember bias ply tires that tended to "equalize", and 2 day qualifying. The only provisionals were for past champions, and there were great idependent drivers like Jimmy Means and Buddy Arrington.
I've snuck into garage areas, and consequently got thrown out of garage areas. I shook Buddy Baker's hand, and Cale Yarborough's.
I also saw Richard Petty lap the field and the only race was for 3rd ot 4th. I suffered though chopped-up tape-delayed coverage on Wide World of Sports with Bobby Unser repeated talking about taking the air off spoilers. I spent weekends listening to MRN, when I was lucky enough to have a local station carrying it, because the race wasn't on TV.
I've seen NASCAR go through many changes. I've griped about many of them, only later to appreciate them. The COT is a great example. I hated it when I saw it, but now I realize that it's put the race more in the driver's hands.
Changes happen, and they happen for a reason. Anyone who's been watching it as long as I, knows that and appreciates it.
Sure the cars aren't "stock" anymore. But guess what, the drivers are. They don't use performance enhancing drugs, they don't hold their sport hostage, and they don't charge for autographs.
Sometimes you have to step back and be grateful for what you have.

the cars handled great did you see Kane get bumped on the back stright
he drove out of it as did a few others these cars are going to bring back alot more old school bumping and banging who knows with a little luck maybe another infield fist fight.
But then again my doctor says im not right in the head.

Git 'r done.... wow, watched most of it because it was in HD and the picture is amazing. The ending was kind of cool. Not much of a NASCAR fan, if they threw a right in there every now and then.. maybe.
Either way, it was cool and congratulations to Dodge for an outstanding showing. Racing a stock car for 500 miles is something I could never do.
