I ordered my '08 Charger R/T (R&T Package) about 5 weeks ago. It now seems there is a possibility that I might get stationed in Okinawa (Kadena AB). It won't happen for about another year or so, but I was wondering if anybody has had any experience owning a LX sized car on that tiny, little island. From what I've read, the parking sucks and maintenance shops are hard to find. I really want to keep my new car, but if it's going to be too much trouble then I might go ahead and cancel the order. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Check with your commanding officer, I thought the government enacted the law where you can walk away from a car loan scott free, if you get deployed over seas. Might be worth it to buy it now and enjoy it for a lil while before you leave. Anyone know what this is called? Tried to google it, found too much on 400% loans at payday places yikes.

I spent two years in Okinawa at Futemna Air Base. I believe they have a service center at Camp Foster, which is just south of Kadena. My opinion? Put off the purchase until you get back. When you get to Oki, buy a Skyline. Sell it when you leave. Gate 2 street off Kadena has great clubs. Take up scuba diving and go north to Nago. You'll love it there. Any questions feel free to pm me. Peace\/

Since I been to the big island in the 80s and 90s , having a large car there is a no no, and it will really upset you if it becomes damage. I also know the penalties for breaking driving laws are seriously career threating. So work smarter not harder.

Never heard of such law. If you have a loan already it's done! You can't walk alway. You can; however, sometimes delay the payments untill you come back from the deployment (overseas tour). My student loan payments got delayed till I'm done with my overseas tour. I called the loan place and they delayed it for me. The best thing is, it doesn't acumulate interest while you wait.

Nice cars don't stay nice too long around Oki...parking sucks for big cars, door dents and dings, plus the weather is crazy out there too.
If I were you, I would wait until I got back to the States before buying.

Besides, asian people can barely see with those tiny eyes, so yeah, lots of dings on your car.

Not true. The Sailors and Soldier's Act. All it is to protect your financial obligations while you are overseas. You will still be paying your bills. But if your duties keep you away from paying bills on time, your credit will not suffer from it. Like putting your accounts on freeze
