Nothing puts a smile on my face like NASCAR on TV. Where are we at, 41 days?

Did anyone else catch NASCAR Preseason Thunder last night on Speed? If so, what are your thoughts on the Dodge nose issue (Intrepid vs. Charger), the mods coming to the Vegas track after the March race (i.e., progressive banking going in), and the possible mods for Bristol (i.e., 36 degree being replaced with progressive banking)?

I'm with Jeff Burton, the Vegas track is fine, don't screw with it. And what are they thinking changing Bristol? It's everyone's favorite race as it is!

As for the nose issue, I'm worried. On the other hand, I think the California race will tell us a lot more than the test sessions. But I don't know why NASCAR is dragging their feet on this. It was fairly apparent last year the Charger's had problems. Maybe they're thinking with the COT making it's debut next year, why change the rules for just one year.

Yea, but what really screwed up Dodge is that once they had the new Charger done and tested, THEN NASCAR changed the spoiler height, which threw off the Dodge set up. The Dodge teams spent all year working on getting the car balanced again. It really wasn't the new Dodge Charger nose that was the basis of the problem...it was the fact that NASCAR changed the rules at a point after Dodge had done their testing with the new nose and the old spoiler height, and they didn't have the time to go back and retest their cars with the new nose and spoiler height. So, they had to test on the fly. I don't see why NASCAR doesn't just let Dodge use the old Intrepid nose.

As for the best race/track, I'll have to go with Richmond...where I'll be watching 2 Cup races and 2 Busch races this year. Could I be biased?

Penske is running Intrepids at Cali and Vegas

I haven't been to Richmond, but Darlington is my favorite track. Bristol is a fan favorite though, for the demolition derby.

i know what you are saying sxt....it is a bummer when you hear how they were treated. just don't know what the fix is for this but it sure does seem like they need to allow the chargers to get setup right. it makes for better competition.....i guess this is why the car of tomorrow seems to offer so much promise for the competitive side. my father and i discuss all of the time how much closer the busch races are compared to the nextel cup races. they are just so much more exciting at the end b/c of the car setups. hell, i don't know.......

but one thing i do know......ya can't be more excited than me for the beginning of the season b/c i will be at daytona. my tickets should be here anyday - and of course i will post pics. hehehe and then texas is the second best place - i will be there for april and nov. this is gonna be a great season to watch!

If you haven't seen it yet, you should check out the USA TODAY Sports Weekly NASCAR '06 guide. It's got a ton of info in it on all the drivers, all the tracks, some info on the COT, and some other cool articles. It is definitely worth the price. I picked mine up at a local convenience store.

GD, I would LOVE to go to a race at Texas. Texas is where I was born and raised. The only problem I have with the big tracks is being able to see everything.

Have fun at Daytona. Will you be there for Speed Week, or "just" the race? Either way, I can't wait to see your pics!
