Anyone know where you can get one for the Charger R/T? The damn car doesn't have one, and you have to go to the dealer for them to check it. A lot of other cars like lincolns have a seal on the trasnmission fluild like our cars that you can easily break. I'm sure there is a part number for it from dodge, and it's nice being able to do something yourself instead of the dealer having to do it and make things worse.

I JUST read this in the manual and was gonna post!? How weird!! :jeez:

I was not aware of this until I saw the plug tonight. The manual says "No check is needed so it is omitted. If you notice fluid loss go to dealer and have them check level." Would it not be easier to check for fluid loss with a dipstick than to look for leaks! What is the purpose of this?

Ok, I am not an expert having you 'on'. If it says you don't need to check it, why do you want to?

It's a 'special tool' for the dealers...

I guess I don't know...what is different about our trany than any other? I mean you should not have to add fluid to any trany unless there is a problem but most still have a dipstick, I think, or is this how the new cars are now? Is there a reason we don't need to check the fluid?

In the past, too many people have put in the wrong fluid and caused tranny problems. Eliminating the stick prevents this and hopefully will reduce tranny problems.
I think Chrysler got fed up with people complaining about tranny problems only to find that the customer had put in the wrong fluid causing the problem.
Personally I would have kept the dipstick but added a big warning label to it stating the type of fluid and using the wrong fluid would void the warranty.

Of course there is a reason, so the dealer can charge you to do it for you :D

This is the first time I have seen the Automatic transmission fluid tube being sealed in any car I have ever owned. I always like to check all the fluid levels when I first get a car. The Powersteering fluid was actually at the Add Mark and not the Full mark. Maybe an oversight at the factory. I filled it with Prestone Powersteering fluid to the full mark. So what if they didn't fill the tranny fuild properly at the factory? How would you ever know? Are you to wait until some dummy light comes on or you see a big puddle of red GOO underneath your car? In my experience it is usually too late at that time and transmission and torque converter damage can result.
I have no clue why they did it this way. I guess they don't want people putting any snake Oils in it like Z-Max or Slick 50 or some other crap that isn't needed for the engine and/or transmission. Still I would like to be able to check the fluid level just in case.

It could also be a Mercedes thing. Since this is basically a German made transmission and German's are pretty anal about who touches what on a car. They don't hardly do any maintenance themselfes and rely heavily on the dealership to do it for them.

That's why Germans get a minimum of 6 weeks vacation, 17 paid holidays and excellent health care.
Did you know that the Unites States is the only industrial free nation in the world that doesn't have a minimum standard vacation policy. We work harder and have less money to show for it with less time off which adds to stress which leads to illness which raises our health care. Vicious circle :D

Sorry, a bit off topic
