SRT Jeep has a backup camera option and the other SRT vehicles with the same head unit for Nav can not hook up the backup camera from a Jeep. It isn't "part of the build" so the bus won't recognize it. Can the new Chrysler please unlock some of these unnecessarily locked doors? Another item not specific to the SRT is the rain sensor wipers. Why can't I just buy the parts and plug and play. Makes no sense to me. Sell us parts. After reading the many reviews of the Caliber SRT-4 I am pleased with the vehicle, however it looks like the choice of not offering a traditional limited slip differential and lighter wheels may have been a mistake.
Have you given any thoughts to possibly offering a regular limited slip option for the Caliber SRT4?

Hello SRT engineers here's one of the questions of the month (I am the designated question poster for several GCSRT members that can't make it tonight)
Subject Grand Cherokee SRT8's
Front axles.
7.9 inch ring gears, 3.73 ratios.
Is there any other Chrysler vehicle that we can use to get a deeper (say 4.11 ratio) from?
I.E Dodge Durango or early small pickup other AWD.
If not ,can you answer who is the axle supplier for these vehicles that we may approach them to cut new gears for us.
We have successfully addressed the rear axle limitations by designing a new axle around the Ford 9 inch which gives us lots of rear options, now we somehow have to address the front. Given the real estate available there isn't alot of options.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Second question is which SRT vehicle has the higest fuel pump flow And working PSI? ( We do have our Whipple blower applications that need to be addressed)
Last Question, On our returnless fuel systems how much fuel vapor can the system hold until it throws a MIL?
We also are working on return systems also.
Thank You.

Who can I contact about a problem I had with my SRT-10? The battery split open and caused paint damage. It took the dealer 6 weeks to "fix" it. Then another 6 weeks to really fix it.
I have called the 800 number with no luck. I also mailed in a letter with no response. Three months to fix a small problem is a joke. Is there anyone there at Dodge that cares?
Thanks,

I am looking for information regarding the serialized 1:24 scale model of the Super Bee that many Bee owners received. There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason as to who got them and how fast. For a lucky some, the models just showed up on their doorstep. However, there are dozens (maybe hundreds) of Bee owners that have not received their model and are desperately looking for information. I have talked with my dealership and Dodge customer service. (both could not help me). Someone at Dodge has to have information on this. Please forward any information to us. Thanks! :)

I've got a list of questions, pick whatever you want, I can't attend live.
1. '08 Shocks - can they be retrofitted to '06s and '07s?
2. Were there any other changes to the suspension for '08?
3. Can the '08 door panels and/or center console be swapped into the '06/07s?
4. My sunroof glass seems to rattle inside it's frame, not the assembly. Is this a known problem?
5. Will constant operating temps of 180 degrees (180 t-stat mod) cause any harm i.e. will it run "rich" and harm the rings or cats?
6. How much horsepower variance is seen in production 6.1 engines?
7. What is the horsepower at 6500, 6750 and 7000 rpms? Does the torque fall off severely?
8. What are the most common failures of components during the SRT TE (extreme track duty)?
9. What are the recommended alignment measurements for road circuit duty?
10. For the drag strip?
11. Link for the SRT-8 Mopar parts - last I checked the website is very cumbersome and not intuitive at all.
Apologies for breaking the 1 question rule - I can never attend live so I thought I would throw this out.
Thank you so much, SRT Engineers!!

A lot of people are getting excessive amounts of puddling or oil in the intake manifold from the PCV system on the 6.1 V8. There was talk in the past about a revised PCV Valve. Was this revised to reduce this condition?? Can this PCV valve be replaced under warranty? How do we ensure we are getting the revised PCV Valve and not "old" stock of the previous design? Thanks guys

The way the SRT8 fuel system is designed it leads to the idea that it will go lean on the right hand fuel rail under heavy load situations. Injector 1 is the last one to get feed fuel thus creating possible engine failure if goes too lean becuase of this issus. Has this issus been looked at and if so is there a solution? Why weren’t the fuel rails feed via a 'T' fitting then to each fuel rail seperately instead on jumping from one rail to another? Thanks for your time.

These cars can obviously take a flogging, are any of the vehicles in your test fleet "wife" driven to simulate light loads and tire wear? If so, did you ever notice uneven wear with the F1's? Is it possible for a car that tracks straight to have an "off" alignment?
Have you ever experienced premature tie-rod wear in your test fleet on the LX vehicles?
At what temperatures do the thermostats open on the entire SRT8 line-up?
Thanks!

Just wanted to share this story with you guys, we're trying to make you proud!
For the past few weeks I've been going to the track to try and crack that elusive 12 sec barrier, coming close but no cigar. At the same time I've been getting to know Mike who has a nice 6.0 silver steelish colored automatic GTO, it's pound for pound the fastest one that goes to our track. My best times are 13.1s but the past couple weeks traction has been tough and I've only been able to get 13.20s@108-109...as you can see my trap speeds have been great, just a poor launcher.
Mike has hit 13.1s@106 with his GTO two weeks in a row. I told him last week we should do a showdown since they are so close, to add to the GTO vs. SRT8 debate. He obliged and we went at it today.
Both cars hot engine temps:
SRT8 GTO
60 ft: 2.06 2.03
1/8 8.67 8.65
mph 82.16 83.83
1/4 13.318 13.362
mph 106.96 105.04
close......
We both cooled all the way down and about an hour later went at it again. The SRT8 ran like it knew bragging rights were on the line...I'm on the left, he's on the right:
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c73/eandkgreen/DSC03148.jpg
He totally jumped me out of the hole and probably had two car lengths. After the 1/8th mile I started reeling him in and was at his drivers door at the end of the 1/4. It's technically a loss, but also my first 12 sec pass!!! DA was -100.
He was really cool, came up to me and shook hands. They are closely matched cars, slight advantage SRT8. And I'm not disappointed about that:lol:
Loving this car!!!

Hey guys, Thanks for coming out every month and giving us more of what we love. These cars are fantastic and we know with you guys in the drivers seat they'll continue to get better.
Enough fluff for now, I have a 2007 300C SRT-8 and have recently started hearing a very light clicking sound while I'm idling. At first I thought it was a loose screw or something in the dash, but I am a bit worried since I noticed it only occurs when the car is in gear. If I'm at a light you hear the repeated light click and if I put the car in Neutral the click stops. You don't notice the click while driving, but I think that's mainly due to the sound of the engine over powering the click. Anyway I was hoping you might have some ideas? New transmission fluid maybe?

The front axle in the Grand is made in Chrysler's Detroit Axle Plant. Since this was an all new axle for the Jeep there are not many ratios available. Just the ones used in production. Superior Axles was appoached to make some 4.10's but I don't believe they were ever produced. No other gear sets will fit this axle. If you want a major project to swap in another axle in the front... You could take a front axle from a Nitro and the gear set from a JK Wrangler. The mounts are all different in the cradle and the halfshafts will have to be custom, but it can be done.
For the fuel pump question.. the 08 Viper has the highest flow pump. Not that this is enough for your application.
The answer to the last question is 42, you pick the units.

im hoping all would be fine using the european formula, but im just makeing sure, sont want to do something that could cause damage
i also went to the mobil1 site and pulled the tech/spec sheet, and it talks about two (2) different kinds of oils, a european formula and a protection formula.....can you shed any light?
this on the mobil 1 tech sheet straight from the mobil 1 site....
Mobil 1 0W-40 is the most advanced performance synthetic engine oil designed to provide ultimate cleaning power, wear protection and overall performance. Mobil 1 0W-40, European Car Formula (NA) or Protection Formula (EU), exceeds the requirements of the leading industry and car manufacturers' standards required for newer modern gasoline and diesel powered automobile engines. The Mobil 1 Technology is race proven and the choice of NASCAR racing. Mobil 1 0W-40 is perfect for all types of vehicles anywhere in the world and has the performance reserve to protect when conventional engine oils cannot. We've seen posts about people getting their lifters replaced and the dealers telling them they are bad, and I notice a little noise/clatter before the oil is flowing on some starts when it's cool out...is some of this normal? Since there is no method for a vehicle owner to check their transmission fluid level. And my dealer wants $100 to check it!! Will the transmission electronics alert you if the fluid level is low?
If not at a minium this needs to be included in future products. I think a lot of people instead of forking over stupid amounts of money to the dealer for a fluid level check would simply run their cars without checking the level. Level falls too low, transmission damage occurs and those customers would generate a huge warranty claim.
Seems like a situation ripe for problems for customers and Chrysler. Another possible solution would allow customers a free fluid level check at given mileage points at least for the term of the factory warranty.

I noticed in this reply from Mobil 1 that they say the 0W40 meets the standards for modern gasoline and diesel powered engines. Many of us now use the 5W40 Mobil 1 Turbo Diesel formula(which Mobil 1 also states on its website is a great choice for heavy duty cycle gasoline engines) for it's "now rare" API SL certification, whereas the 0W40 went from an SL early in it's life when you guys were developing the 6.1 to an SM now.
Are the extra wear-reducing agents in the SM formula that important or will we be fine with the now "not as good" API SL 0W40 for our HEMIs? This of course assumes we are not in a climate with super cold temperatures so the cold-flow properties of the 0W40 are not as important.

1) Yes, they would be a direct replacement. For the Charger, 04854577AC, 04854576AC, 05039344AA with a rear spring change to 04895332AF.
2) No
3) Probably, might have to splice some electrical connections. (sorry no EE guys here tonight)
4) That's a common part with base vehicle... ask your dealer to look at it.
5) No
6) Within 2% is what we typically see
7) Very little. Production engines don't operate in that range... ECU will pull fuel/spark/throttle at redline.
8) Failure of the tire's ability to hold smoke :)
9) Directionally, increase your camber towards one degree negative, moderate toe out is preferable for road course work
10) Alignment = steering wheel straight ahead (less camber, zero toe)
11) Agreed... work in progress. Floormats were recently updated.

Now that all the information and test SRT4 Calibers have been released to the public, what are the best times you were able to pull out of the vehicle? (1/4 mile..0-60..)
Also, are there any planes to offer Staged upgrades like the previous gen SRT4?

Thanks guys
I've not heard of a PCV valve change. I'll check on it and report next chat.

Has anything been decided on a TSB for the noisy Bilstein front shocks?
Why should we be stuck with having to buy aftermarket coil-overs to get rid of the clunking sound?
There is no planned TSB. A bad upper shock mount can cause a clunk and the dealer should be able to replace it if that is the case. There is some noise from the check valve in shocks themselves, but removing the check valve would significantly reduce the performace of the shock.

11-14-2007, 04:47 PM
On the 6.1L SRT-8, I've seen timing be retarded due to high air charge temps and high coolant temps. After addressing both of those, I'm still seeing a fair bit of knock timing retard, but only after hammering my car back to back for several minutes. According to the logs, this seems to only be happening when the oil temps reach or exceed 190-200 degrees. My air charge temps and coolant temps are very low. I am running 93 octane. Is it normal for timing to get pulled when the oil temps reach a certain temperature? Or should I look elsewhere for the source of my knock issue?

New Charger Rear Spring: 04895332AF
How does this spring differ from a 2006 or 2007 Charger rear springs??
If you guys remember me ... I have been seriously considering changing the rears springs and shocks on my 2007 Magnum SRT to the rear springs and shocks from a 2008 Charger SRT.
I know the 06-07 Magnum Springs were taller but the same rate as 06-07 Chargers. I feel the Magnum sits a bit too high in the back and I am not so concerned about hauling and towing issues. I am hoping the switch to 08 Charger Rear Springs and Shocks will offer a very slight ride height lowering with a sacrafice in hauling and towing because I will lose the self leveling Nivomats.

Thanks!
Eric
Our test schedule does include light driving cycles including tire wear. The F1's are pretty sensitive to toe settings. I would have the dealer check the alignment and make sure it's close to the center of the spec.
Thermostats open at 195 on all SRT8s

The way the SRT8 fuel system is designed it leads to the idea that it will go lean on the right hand fuel rail under heavy load situations. Injector 1 is the last one to get feed fuel thus creating possible engine failure if goes too lean becuase of this issus. Has this issus been looked at and if so is there a solution? Why weren’t the fuel rails feed via a 'T' fitting then to each fuel rail seperately instead on jumping from one rail to another? Thanks for your time.
The fuel rail is well designed to equalize fuel flow and pressure to each injector. We check it on the dyno and in the car on the road and on the track.

Hey Guys,
I have had only 1 problem with my 07 Jeep and that is the damn brakes. The fronts are starting to score like no other. The rears squeel like a damn pig everytime i step on the brakes. I have had the rear brake TSB done and it worked for a few hundred miles and just came right back. In fact it is actually a lot worse now. I have taken it in to my dealer a number of times and they keep making up excuses that this is how high performance brakes are. I think this is complete B.S. to come up with an excuse like this. I have owned and know many other people who own high performance cars with high performance brakes and they dont have nearly this kind of problem. I understand they will have a little noise, but it sounds like a train is trying to stop anytime i brake.
To sum it all up, what will be done to fix this problem?? I know there are many other owners who have this same issue. I dont feel like spending a grand and replacing all four corners when the car is only 6 months old. I spent 45K and I should expect better results.

Last comment, I finally went to the SRT Track Experience. Just wanted to say the staff and instructors were great and really helpful, a nice job all around and I plan on going back - free pass from another SRT vehicle in the next year or not.
The cars there exhibited a surprisingly low amount of brake dust for stock pads, are they less dusty when driven hard as opposed to light city/freeway traffic? - I mean we were all in amazement in our group! After thinking about it, you guys made a great choice with the pads and I think I'll continue to fight the dust for the superior performance they offer.
Do you think different pads will hinder the effectiveness of the brake-lock differential?

What's MBT (mean best timing) on the 6.1L engine? At how many degrees timing does the engine stop making power?
Modern spark tables look at lots of variables such as ambient and water temperatures and ambient pressure and throttle position, etc. to continuously set best spark. There's also a knock sensor to adjust for engine knock. So an absolute max spark is hard to define.

I doubt changing the fluid would help, but this isn't much info to go on. If the clicking is bugging you, you should take it to the dealer to diagnose.

Metal particles in the fluid is typical of an overheated pump. I noticed that you have a custom facia. Is the tri-cooler on the front of your radiator covered anymore then it was before you changed it. The cooler needs air.

Greetings SRT gurus! I’m loving my 300c srt8 as did I my charger srt8 before it!
I have two questions:
One: I’ve been having some engine Knock, not audible but it’s registering at about 1.5 to 4.5 KR on a completely stock engine on 91 octane fuel. I’ve tried every brand of fuel in my area and the only one that got rid of it was Sunoco 100 octane unleaded race fuel. This subject has been discussed in great length lately on the boards and it appears that it is a wide spread problem. I’ve noticed that my intake manifold has quite a bit of oil coating its inner walls, could that be the cause?
Two: I know you could never in a thousand years say that it is ok to run E85 in any of your products however……….I would like to ask simply with tuning and warranty aside are there any materials used in the fuel system that will not stand up to E85? In other words would a car that was designed to run on e85 use different materials in the fuel system than what is currently used in the srt8’s?
Thanks and keep up the great work!!

Metal particles in the fluid is typical of an overheated pump. I noticed that you have a custom facia. Is the tri-cooler on the front of your radiator covered anymore then it was before you changed it. The cooler needs air.
The new facia actually lets more air onto the tri-cooler and radiator. Here's a closer view:

I have a different grille but it's a very wide open billet unit. And two others I am aware of have stock grilles. Is there any way to properly track pump heat? I'd hate to think that come summer this issue might surface again :(
Steve
The only way to track power steering temperatures is to put a thermocouple on the power steering reservoir by drilling through the lid. The only time we've seen high temps is when there is restricted air flow to the tri-cooler.

Okay I am Road Racer not an engineer...."spring check load"?? Does this mean a 2008 Charger Spring Free Height is taller than a 2007 Charger Spring?? I would guess this was done to help maintain a bit more ride height since the Charger does not use self levelng shocks in 2008??
I guess it might be easier for me to use 2008 Charger Rear shocks and trim my 2007 Springs to obtain my desired ride height?? Also confirm for me 2008 300C SRT Rear shocks are softer damping than 2008 Charger Rear shocks?
Hey Nasa... it's just semantics... you are on the money. With the load leveling gone (and no trailer tow in a Charger SRT8) we needed to change the rear spring to accomodate the removal of the load leveling shocks.
and... you are correct in that the control forces in the 300C shocks are slightly less providing a softer ride.

Now that all the information and test SRT4 Calibers have been released to the public, what are the best times you were able to pull out of the vehicle? (1/4 mile..0-60..)
Also, are there any planes to offer Staged upgrades like the previous gen SRT4?
Mid 14's in the 1/4 and low 6's to 60. No comment on future upgrades

What was the response on it so far? When can I get my hands on it? :)
Neil was the right man to talk to. The response has been very positive so far. We are still in the development stages but as you saw at SEMA we have prototype parts already. You will have to stay tuned for the release date.

I will echo what others have been saying about steering issues. I do believe the rather large SRT wheels and tires in combination with the larger amounts of positive caster is putting a pretty high amount of load on the steering system. There have been several cases of outer tie rods ends showing a lot of wear at relative low mileages. I suggest to others is try to avoid turning the wheels a lot when the vehicle is stopped.
I would hate to lose positive caster in an SRT car ... but maybe some adjustment on future products with the ackerman steering or scrub radius could help reduce low speed loads on the steering without drastic effects on high speed handling.
Again you guys are the experts.

Hey Guys,
I have had only 1 problem with my 07 Jeep and that is the damn brakes.
There is a tsb out there for the rears...sorry I don't have the number handy....it covered the '07 vehicles......

Are you sure the meter you are using is reading the correct values? Ambient temperature also affects knock. We calibrate on 91 octane to a no-knock condition but the knock sensor will protect the engine on regular fuel - although at reduced power.
Rings, fuel rails, injectors, valve seats, seals, gaskets, and fuel pump are just a few of the components that have to be modified to work with E85. Plus the injectors have to flow a lot more fuel.

He said he was at a track here in KY and a BMW 754i with a V8 that has a small engine size (4.4) beat by 3 car length on 3 run's against it. Is this because of vehicle weight? Both cars are stock.

I think you may have misunderstood. If the temperature outside is 40 degrees, the car will warm up and the temperature on the EVIC will read 45. If the outside temperature raises to 80 degrees, the EVIC will say 85. It's always 5 degrees off (in mine) and even more than others. I don't know of any Charger owner that has an accurate outside air temp reported in their EVIC.

Hey SRT engineers!
How are you doing tonight. My current SRT-4 is running like a champ and I'm loving it. It won almost every contest it was placed in when it was first reviewed. However, this new Caliber SRT-4 has LOST almost every contest it was placed in, especially to the MS3. Several reviewers have commented that lack of a true LSD has really hurt the car's ability to get torque transfered properly. Although you argue that the BLD was a better idea, could you get into the specifics as to why? I would also like to know if you are disappointed with the results the reviewers are finding and if you have any ideas on how to improve the Caliber SRT-4 so that it takes the number one spot just like the Neon SRT-4 did? As a diehard SRT owner, I'm disappointed that the media doesn't seem to think this SRT is the best out there. Also, could you be more specific on the quarter mile times and 0-60 you received (such as to the nearest tenth?) I know these are difficult questions for you to deal with, but I think it would be more fair to hear SRTs side of the story as to why the reviewers don't think this car is as well performing as the Mazdaspeed 3. Thank you very much.

We don't recommend catch cans. If you try to pour oil into the engine through the oil fill at too fast of a rate (such as with a two quart can or with a filling station rapid fill hose) some oil could back up through the fresh air intake hose. Slow down when adding oil.

One of the engineers at the recent SEMA show mentioned that SRT had done extensive testing on the Goodyear runflat tires for the Jeep SRT8, and that no better performing tire was found. Many Jeep owners swear by other non run-flat tires and claim that they provide a much better/softer ride and still handle well under "spirited" driving conditions.
Can you elaborate further on why the Goodyear tires were chosen and the advantages they have vs other tires that were tested?
The biggest difference we found was in steering and handling response. With the tuning package that's currently on the Jeep (it was tuned using the Goodyears) non runflats really make it slugish and not well balanced front to rear.

I can't be 100 % sure that the Dashhawk I am using is reading correctly but I've double checked with other tools and gotten the same results. Also others have had the same problem. Ambient temps did change the amount of KR, its been 30 to 50 degrees here lately and I'm still getting as much as 4.5 stock.
So e85 would cause possible leaks in the long term? can you be more specific as to what e85 will do to the components listed?
thanks again,

??Not sure how much precision you are looking for +/_ 5mm?? They are different because the fascias are different shapes but the approach angle is the same. The ground clearance is about the same. The exact overhang from the front spindle centerline to the most forward point of the fascia is a small difference between the Charger/Magnum/300C SRT8. I'm curious; Why do you ask??

The new facia actually lets more air onto the tri-cooler and radiator. Here's a closer view:
http://www.playmorfarm.com/cars/Field%20Work/Nose2.JPG
Although it might look like it's a more open fascia, air flow depends greatly on the shape of the grill and/or the depth of the texture. In your case, you might still be restricting air flow through the new grille.
Try using an infrared gun on the tri-cooler after warm-up. It'll show you if you're actually over-heating it.
In addition, it looks like on the lower side of your fascia, you have grass peeking out through. This means that you don't have a belly pan on it. This should help direct the air to the cooler.
Thank you for all the hard work...I love my car!! Please make a EVIC update so those of us that bought the first chargers can have the 0-60 timer, g meter, etc. I would be okay with paying

Nuff said about all the lousy service at the dealers. SO
Is it possible to get an online registry set up so we can look for the SRT trained techs by region? That way we can take our cars to them, no matter which DCX dealer the work for at the moment. i.e. if they move to a new dealer, let them update the list to keep it current. And add their latest classes to their list, as they take more training.
Please pass this up to anyone that has the stroke to get it done.
