Sounds good to me, I should be around still (2010 to San Diego). Lauren and I will most likely be able to help out again, the first one was a blast!

San Diego in 2010???? Man, that sucks (although the weather is MUCH nicer out there). You'll have to carry the HRME name out there with ya. :D

I am working on (what I consider to be) a significant change to the car show for next year....as well as future shows. I can't say too much now :silenced: , but please keep checking back. I hope to have this finalized within 2-4 weeks.

This "change" does not affect the date, location, time, etc. of the show.

It is official!!! The HRME Back to School Bash is now an official annual charity event to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

St. Jude was founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas for the sole purpose of conducting basic and clinical research into catastrophic childhood diseases, mainly cancer. St. Jude is the largest childhood cancer research center in the world, having treated children from all 50 states and from around the world. Additionally, St. Jude is the only pediatric research center where families never pay for treatment not covered by insurance, and families without insurance are never asked to pay.

For more information on St. Jude, please visit http://www.stjude.org/stjude/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=f2bfab46cb118010VgnVCM1000000e 2015acRCRD

That's awesome!
when my daughter was 30 days old she had surgery a childrens hospital (Not St Judes). But the concept was the same and all rooms for babies included a bed for a parent, shower and meals, with no additional fees for it.

I am quite excited (and honored) about it.

I've updated the car show page on the website. I still have some stuff to add...like the registration sheet and the flyer. I'm also going to try to get an online registration set up. When I do, SB, will you be my test subject to see if it works?

So far, I've had about 15 people (from a number of different forums) tell me that they'll definitely be at the show. That's half the number of participants at this year's show back in August. :D

So far, the event info has been submitted to:

The Daily Press
The Virginia Pilot
The Hampton Roads Magazine
Ignition (a military newspaper)
VPCCC
Mid-Atlantic Motor Pages
8 different forums

I still have to submit the info to:
CCCHR
CCCCVA
NOVACCC
local businesses
MWRs
and over 150 different individuals and clubs

Anywhere else...any other publications?

Just an update...

Things are coming along pretty well. I've sent out over 100 emails already (with many more still to go out) to individuals and clubs/organizations personally inviting them to the show. The show is also listed in (or has at least been sent to) The Daily Press, Hampton Roads Magazine, Virginian Pilot, Full Throttle magazine, Thunder Roads Mid-Atlantic magazine, Ignition, Mid-Atlantic Motor Pages, and on numerous forums. The band is booked, as is the Space Walk, and the dash plaques have been ordered.

I'm also working on a couple of possible sponsors. More to follow on that....

Additionally, I'm going to ask 3-4 local vendors if they would like to come out to the show to see it they get/receive any feedback from the show participants and attendees...in order to see if selling vendor space at next year's show (yup, I'm already looking that far ahead) will be feasible.

There's still a ton to do, and I'm looking for some help with one aspect. It's about that time to start getting flyers out to local businesses...and the more I can get to the better. That's were I need help. Would anyone be willing to print out some flyers (color ones) and take them to different auto and motorcycle related businesses in the area? All you would have to do is ask if they would allow you to post a flyer for the show in their business (door, window, counter, etc.). If they agree...great!...if not...so be it. I'll be hitting Hampton, Newport News, York County, Poquoson (sp?), and possibly Gloucester. I need help with Williamsburg and down on the South Side. If you can help out with this, please let me know.

Finally, car show season is about to begin, so I'll be hitting as many of the shows, as well as BPS and Grafton HD, and handing out flyers. If I see you at any of these events, I may try to recruit you to help pass out the flyers. :D

I heard back from my VSP POC...but not about the VSP Dodge Chargers.

She wanted to ask me this:

I wanted to know if it is ok if I brought a Harley Motorcycle to the car fair. We are selling raffle tickets for a soft tail HD motorcycle for Special Olympics. Tickets are $25.00 and only 2500 tickets will be sold.

So, if you're interested in an HD bike, you'll be able to buy a raffle ticket at the car show.

So...in addition to the St. Jude charity for the car show, there will be 3 other charities at the show:

1. The Pink Ladies Cafe (one of our food vendors) - to benefit Relay for Life. (They were at the show last year.)

2. Miss Lilly Day from The Pinup Angels - an organization that provides care packages to our deployed service members (for more information on this organization, visit www.thepinupangels.com)

3. Motorcycle Raffle Ticket sales - to benefit the Special Olympics (I don't have the name of the organization yet.)

I have to admit that I am very happy, and honored, to have these charities come out and be part of the show.

These are the gals that will be out at the show. There is at least one gal coming, Miss Lilly Day, and she told me yesterday that another gal my be flying in from Seattle (if I remember correctly) to help out.

Also, I've submitted the show's info to the magazine to include in their "Drivin' Around" section.

OK...so I got a pretty nice phone call this morning concerning the car show.

I gave a friend of mine who works at a local dealer info about the show and asked him to pass it around. He called me this morning to ask about the max capacity of the show. He said that one of his buddies has about 40 people signed up to come out...and he said that there are a dozen or so other guys who want to come out and bring some friends with them, too.

If, at a minimum, those 40 guys do come out, that will put us over the number of cars at last year's show.

My goal this year is 100 cars, trucks, and bikes.

2. HRTownSquare.com
3. Olskoolrodz.com
4. Daily Press
5. Hampton Roads Magazine
6. Virginia Pilot
7. Full Throttle Magazine
8. Thunder Roads Mid-Atlantic Magazine
9. Ignition
10. Mid-Atlantic Motor Pages
11. Mequires Special Events
12. Hotrodhotline.com

I've also contacted Debbi Haddaway from Max Media and asked about PSAs on their different local radio stations. I haven't heard back from her, so I think I'll contact the stations individually.

Is there anything, any place, else you can think of?

For the trophies, the small star trophies are the Kid's Choice awards (3 of them). The blue and red trophies are the 1st and 2nd place awards (respectively) for each class (16 classes). The green awards are the Best In... awards. There are 7 of these.

There are 42 awards in all. For size comparison, the red trophies are approximately 10" tall.

I saw it was down the other day. That bites that it has to be rebuilt. :dead:

AutoTrader will be including the HRME event flyer in their publications in the very near future. Additionally, they are giving me 50 of their own goody bags to include with mine. SWEET!!!

I'm trying to get more from JEGS this year, too. And I've got a request in to Summit as well.

I'm thinking for the BT gift certificate, I may have a silent auction...since it's not applicable for all makes and models.

FYI...I got a call today from VIR, and they asked if they could come out to the HRME show and give out info on the track and upcoming events. They said that they wanted to reach more people in the Hampton Roads area, and that they had tagged the show as one that they definitely wanted to attend.

My wife has been working on getting some door prizes (for registered participants) for the car show. So far, we have:

- $200 gift certificate from Billet Technology
- 4 quick detailing kits from Meguiar's
- 4 gift certificates/coupons from Hooters
- 4 gift certificates/coupons from Outback

I still have to pick up donations from Olive Garden and Cheeseburger in Paradise (I believe that's the place), and I'm waiting to hear back from Applebee's, Carrabba's, ColdStone, and IHOP.

Bad news...one of the VSP Chargers was damaged in a pursuit this past weekend and won't be able to attend. :(

A moment of silence for the damaged Charger...

We will still have one Charger and one Crown Vic...and possibly the TAC truck (if they aren't called out). :rocker:

You can always leave a bit early if you need to. If that's the case, I can make sure that the judges get to you first.

I have added the info from the show. On the site, go to "Past Charitable Events" and then click on the "2nd Annual Back to School Bash Car, Truck & Bike Show" link.

I've included all the winners from the show.

PoD, What is Wolfman's actual business name (so I can correct it on the site)?

Finally, I'm already looking at next year's show. Any suggestions? I really need to tweak the judging.

OK...this made me feel good. This is a portion of an email that my wife received.

I don't if you remember me or not, but I attended your benefit car show for the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Hampton back on July 26th. A friend of mine and I entered our motorcycles in your show...First off, I'd like to say that you put on a wonderful event and I was impressed at how well organized it was put together. Very professional to say the least...I would also like to THANK YOU for supporting a great cause and raising money to help the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Once again you put on a great event and it was a pleasure to attend...Thank you again!

This makes it all worth while...
