When Dodge announced that its all-new Charger would be a sedan instead of a hardtop, you would have thought a new Civil War was about to break out.

To purists, the idea of commemorating an acclaimed two-door muscle car coupe of the '60s and '70s with a sedan was blasphemy. But the performance world has moved on since coupes ruled the road. Nowadays, blistering performance and exciting style are just as likely to come with four doors as two.

When driving the Charger, you are overwhelmed by a sense of stability. For starters, this is a heavy car, so it feels rugged. Add to that its excellent handling _ no body lean, no dips when you brake and stick-to-it behavior around corners _ and the Charger is the Rock of Gibraltar on wheels.
