286 is pretty radical for a 5.7 then...virtually undoable unless some MAJOR modifications are done.
Thx for the specs need....interesting...very interesting

Far from radical, the Comp Cams, if I remember correctly, are beyond that

(XFI 260, 268 and 273)
and for the 273 you need to modify a bunch o' stuff...

it can be done....thats the fun of it...just depends on if you want a cheap 30hp, or a whole lot more, with a bunch more work. Let me know what you end up doing. That car of yours is already jumped up with some awesome HP...i like to see what you are doing...keeps me VERY interested

Putting that 6.1 cam it a 5.7 might be a mistake. The duration might be good but without centerline numbers you won't know where your power will come in. The result may be you will ruin out of RPM before you make power. Larger cube engines make power at lower RPM for a given duration and centerline. Another thing that would scare me would be the lift. With 1.5 rockers the valve opening is .856. I don't know what the max lift on the 5.7 springs are but I'd afraid of the spring binding. If your lift is more than the head design max things go KABOOM real fast. The 6.1 might also have longer valve stems and different springs to handle that much travel.

the springs and rockers would likley need to be replaced. I like the idea...and as Need says, he knows guys that have done it. I don't, but I'd love to work on one and try it. Just not mine...

i have yet to see anyone change out the cam yet on the 5.7....too many computer issues. doesn't anyone remember the hotrod magazine article? they made a frankenstein computer system to get the cam to work. this is not a doable project just yet until someone cracks that computer to set the proper specs for the computer to run. if i recall though....the lower cam looked like the best to me. it had the most torque at lower rpms and the 273(?) made less torque at low ends than the stock but made ultimately more torque and hp at the top end...but again they did this all above the stock limiter...with the limiter still in place you will actually lose power off of the 273(?)....anyone else remember the article. been awhile since i read it and losing memory slowly.......

Theres a couple of guys who have done it on Dodge Talk on the 5.7 truck motors, another guy has done it with a PT cruiser with an LX 5.7 in it. Our plan was to do it on our 5.7L with 6.1L Heads, Cam and Intake. We didn't get time on the Heads and Cam, intake is on it and it runs great. We sold the car mid-December and someone already bought the heads off us, all we have left is the 6.1L camshaft.

GD, new article out this months moparmuscle mag....Comp Cams is advertising the 260's at 31 hp and a good amount of torque too. This looks like the least invasive...ie....least work....and as long as we can get a programmer should work and make easy hp pretty fast.
As soon as the Programmer comes out...i'll be asking about its real abilities to do more than just to some simple flash tuning. If we can really balls this 5.7 out with internals, i'm doing it. Screw the warranty, i'll buy another motor and start over....hehe

i am with you dj. i also believe that the 260 is the best of the bunch and definitely the least invasive to the engine and computer system, but we still need that programmer to really get it to work. i am all aboard once it is set in stone that there will be no problems and the computer will take the cam and turn it into a power house....i think that the low end torque and horsepower fromt he 260 will be a great addition to our cars. i also want to change out to the beehive springs. if you start you should do it all, right?
but i honestly don't see this being a working possibility for a few months.....i need to get a hold of that magazine. i would love to read that article. it is really really hard to find that mopar magazine around here. drives me nuts.

I just subscribed to it....it is way to hard to find. I'd send you the one i have now, but its my buddies...he knew i'd get a kick out of it..cover to cover great read.
Yeah, the medium cam is doable to if you are planning on swapping out springs. The rockers have room for improvement as well according to the article. I'll change the plugs in the spring and index them..of course, enamel the valve covers and start the engine bay beautification...hehe...always something.

Just wanted to get my .02 in here as well ! My Tuner, (James) at RWTD says not to look for any decent tuning software probably until April. However, after seeing what my bone stock '06 Daytona put to the wheels on his dyno, and looking at the AFR, torque, and HP curves, he was very impressed, and actually stated that he saw the potential to put over 300 rwhp down on an all stock setup with just a good tune. I may go ahead and install a set of L/T headers with high flow cat's, but until there is the ability to tune the entire package and address things like the Torque Management, it is just a waste of money to install cams and such ! Maybe a 6.1 intake with 6.1 injectors, but again, until the AFR and timing can be adjusted, your just risking too much, in my opinion.
Steve.

Wild, we have the ability to adjust fuel and timing (when boost is sensed) with the Supercharger kit GS Motorsports sells
