This Wednesday will be my first time on the track. Thanks to a lot of Threads in this forum I think I'm fairly well prepared for the event, I just have 2 questions:

1. What is the technique used in a stand still burnout before the start of the race?
2. What if I just don’t do it, does it make that big a difference in the performance of the car?

Thanks,

Eventually, you'll start to get a lot of crap stuck to the tires that will loosen your grip to the track..

Don't go in the water box, but before you get up to the line, give it some gas while on the brake until your tires break free and spin out a little bit.

Make sure your ESP is completely off!

Do you guys think doing the fuse 11 mod, before going to the track would help my ETs? The only mod's that I have are the AIRAID CAI with scoop and the 180 degree Tstat...

I was actually curious about this my self, so last time I was at the track, right before my last run, I pulled fuse 11 and then did another run. I didn't see a change. I ran another 13.9 like I was all night.

I tried the reset by holding in the gas peddle & it added almost a second to my 0-60 times & by the time i was at the track I was running over 5.5 on average 0-60 but before i was running an average of 5.0. I dont recommend it.

Turn off the esp ease through the water box put light presure on the brake pedal and punch the gas.
If you hold the brake to hard u might start twistin the car sidways. Takes a few times to get the hang of it.
The object is to shock the rear end so the tires will spin easy.
Pesonally I dont do a burn out all the time. Ill do a burn out in a street race if i need to clean the tires off from rocks and god knows what else. But it depends on your tire compond. I have some head bussers for tires and they wont get hot and sticky after a burn out so burn outs for me or just for show. U can just go around the water box and line up see how u do.

Actually you don't want to drive threw the water box if you are on street tires. The water is for slicks, and that is because they are so grippy they need help to get them to spin. A lot of tracks will throw you out if you drive through the water box on street tires because you might get water on the track.

As for burnouts, I usually just hold the break down all the way, touch the gas and just let them spin for a quick second to clean them off.

In my hometown track, there is no way to get around the water, so I just let the kid with the hose know that I don't want water and he does his best to try to sweep it of.... what should I do in this case? Should I just drive over the water and do my burn after it?

That I do not know, Every track I've seen has a spot to drive around. The track I race at actually has a sign with an arrow saying water.

It all depends on the track. Like the other guy said u cant avoid the water box at every track. Plus there is a way to clean off water left on the front tires with a burn out. So it all depends on what you are tryin to do. At my local track they dont mind u doin a burn out with street tires.

At the track I go to, you can do a burn out on street tires, they just don't want you driving through the water unless you are on slicks.

It would be great if all tracks were like that... like I mention before, at my hometown track, there is no way for me to go around the water... I'll try to get picks next week...

I found this clip of a 1969 Charger R/T doing a great burnout:
