The guys on LX Forums have been beating my a$$ on this. I have pic's today. We took long on this because we wanted to ensure we could protect our design (dress patent and we are on the verge of a utility patent so the attorney said ok to show your pics). This set up will be modular in nature meaning that you will be able to snap and lock other shifters the we design on to the shaft portion (just click and lock). No one company has addressed the shaft issue and we did just that. You will be able to adjust the position of the handle also.
The handle shown here will be the general design, but a bit thicker. Mike Stone was at our facility today (a member here) and he loved the shifter. We let him give us his thoughts on it. Feed back is appreciated. We will be going into production within the next week to 10 days.
The finish shown is brushed with clear coat anodize on it. We will offer these polished, brushed as shown and in either satin black, mirror black, mirror blue, and mirror red.
Feed back is appreciated. Mike Stone if you are reading come on in and chim in with your thoughts after the visit to the shop today.

How high up is it compared to say the stock shifter? I just put in the VES and found that the arm rest is a bit higher than the old one and I would like to have it a bit higher. I can't wait to see the end product. You have defiantly hit a home run on this IMO.

I will get more infor on this for you (in relationship to the arm rest).
Once you all see the thicker t-shift portion of it I do believe we have a good design here. Again, this is a product that you must see in the car to get how cool it looks.

It's kinda bulky, but I bet it looks allot better anodized or powder coated. I myself have the powder coated ball type shifter y'all have and I would have to rate this one last compared to to other shifters you sell. (#1 Pistol grip #2 Ball type #3 This T-handle. Oh but still the first thing in the pic that caught my eye was the shift bezel. Maybe more of a rounded design kind of like the old hurst, but just give it a BilletTech look. Oh and I think a straight shank would be better, It starts huge at the top with that huge handle and shrinks down like a straw. Well theres my opinion.
Good luck

Some of the biggest input we have gotten from many folks we talked to was they wanted a T-Handle that kind of was old and new fused. This is bascially where we came with this infused design. We don't want to knock off Hurst.

For Option ''D'' how about getting a pistol grip shifter mounting it T style, call it a day, and Ill love it. I like the pistolgrips finger cuts the ones on the A-C are rounded out too much IMO, kinda looks like the coin saver in the armrest, all im saying is A-C are all kinda the same, how bout making "d" a little different, and everyone loved your pistol grip, so mount it up there!!!

not too bad, I cant wait to see a "finished" product.
deff like c the best of those 3. A is too pointy.
I think it would look sweet if you rounded the back edge more like the hurst style and let the front edge be angular like these or the pistol grips you already have. I would like it to be smooth and fit nicely into my palm on the back.
does the "clip on" knob hold really tightly? i wouldnt want it to have any shake or shimmy in it.
nice work guys!

Just want to tell you that I think the thicker shaft and thicker handle is the way to go as we discuss when I was at the shop today. I also beleive the handle being interchangable is going to be a get option for many? When you start putting colors on the handles they are going to look amazing. OH one more thing, shave/angle a bit of the bottom thumb side like you have done on the pistol grips =)
(ok make it two things) make the stalk tapered instead of flat.
Nomad^Phoenix
07-17-2007, 09:03 PM
Heidi, I'm thinking that I like A & B the best. That said, let me deconstruct them to their best and worst points. Literally. A is a bit pointy and might actually hurt! However, the right hand side is a sweet little angle, and I like that better than the B option. The B option has less points and the right hand side isn't so bad...better than option C, in my opinion.
The stalk seems to make the full fledged example look out of place. It tapers in a way that looks inconsistent with Dodge's interior. Perhaps a straight pipe would be just as effective. This also might seem like a strange request, but it would be nice to see pics with someone's arm on the handle from different angles. One of the reasons I held off from the pistol grip was waiting to see how this one would turn out; and the fact that it looks too low to be comfortable to grab to my eye. Now this one looks too high. This might be an illusion, but it is hard to establish this without an arm/hand grabbing the stick.
Of course, colored version, a plain black would fit in much better, but I know this is a prototype.

i know it might be cheaper to make ONE type of shaft but wouldn't offering 2 or 3 types just make it that much more special to everyone? just a little more custom.
I also like the idea of a shorter, straight shaft too, with no taper......wish my home pc haddnt just crashed or I would mock something up.
the thumb side grove el cobra made is great, but I still think it should have the thumb knuckle cutout/groove on the bottom side to just make feel like butter.
If you havnt already, go to the toy store pick up some playdough, make a cylinder and squeeze it like you would hold the shifter. pay attention to where the thumb and the palm part squeeze in in the dough. I think making it more S shaped like elcobra has would not only make it look unique but super comfortable.
as for the height thing, didnt you say that it would be adjustable?

Yes, we keep modeling clay here all the time. Here are some shaft pic's for you guys and some pics with a person sitting in the car. We agree about the shaft height and will do something about this.
Sometimes we forget that its no me only driving the car, therefore the current height was perfect to me. Everything will be adjusted. Let us know what you think of these style of shafts.
Agree with the thumb rest, we just machined our first prototype in the wrong place (did it direct on the side not underneath).

I think the 4th stalk is interesting, would love to see it with the handle on it. i think this could be the winner for me. but i def like the first one, just a bit shortened.
(personally i find modeling clay a bit hard usually, unless your carving it, that FLOAM crap they used to make was hand down the best cause you could squeeze it just right. It would compact and not squish out and stay that way.)

These all look really cool, I also think going as far away from a Hurst shifter as possible is best. That style worked back in the Old school days, this idea you have here is more modern and better for the style the Charger is now as well as other LX rides. I also agree that the shaft should be taller but not so tall that your arm would go straight across off the console cover. GREAT WORK AS ALWAYS!!!

Yeah this is a tough personal preference to build for. I have my seats back further than they do in the pic, which would make it uncomfortable to keep my hand on the shifter in the pics position. I would have to bend my wrist down over the end of the console.
if they are fully adjustable like they says i think everyone will be happy.

Good, because this comp is exactly what you need. While the comp is created by photos that fit into this one view and I'd like to see more at other angles for examples, he has done a magnificent but simple job of showing the difference between the T's you've been working on and the Pistol.
What's wrong with the T's is that they are not organic looking, for lack of a better word. They look stiff and manufactured; like they don't belong in the console. The Pistol looks good the way it was made mind you. It looks perhaps even better on its side and mounted (with a better stalk). It looks mean. It looks hungry. The T's look functional, but not exciting. Which is okay, but not inspiring. You want people to see this and go, HOLY $%#@$@!!
Mind you, you might want to adjust something here or there, but overall...it's hard to mess with perfection. Put the right stalk on this, get that powder coating back in place, as well as chromes...you've got a hit.

The shaft portion screws into place snug and tight; the handle portion clips and locks down in place. You will be able to adjust your T-Handle portion left or right however it suit you.
This would be a great feature. I would like to be able to swing my wrist to the right towards the passenger 15-20 degrees. I think it would feel more natural that way instead of straight ahead.
The thumb rest on the side is a definate must. The only way I can think to describe it would be to hold a roll of quarters in the fist of your hand. Your thumb naturally goes to the side of the roll so maybe an inverted groove that runs the length of the side of the shifter from front to back that your whole thumb could sink/slide into. I think this would also help you grip the shifter better if you were upshifting or downshifting quickly without worrying about a sweaty thumb sliding off the shifter in a quick need for speed.

You will be able to use this handle 4 different ways.
1. a straight horizontal handle on a short shaft.
2. a straight horizontal handle on a long shaft.
3. a 15 degree tipped handle on a short shaft.
4. a 15 degree tipped handle on a long shaft.
Our plan is to sell this as a kit with either the tall shaft or the short shaft, or you can buy both tall and short together. You will get the universal grip, meaning you will be able to lock it into the straight position or into the 15 degree tilt.

This is how it should be listening to your customer base.
Right now we have two handles one is machined with the 15 degree tilt in it the other is for straight. The boys are running off a grip right now with the threads built in universal. I'm waiting for it to come off the mill here shortly. In the meantime, the rain let up a bit so here are some more shots in the car.

folks this is yet another piece, and again I say this with all respect to you guys, you must see the piece in the car to fully appreciate the feel of it and how awesome it looks in there.
This is a yet another high quality piece from the awesome people I work with partnering with you all here to give you hopefully, the T-Handle you have been wanting.
Options, and prices early next week. We will have these with us at the ShinDig next week in Georgia as well. This will without question be the best T-Handle and modular system on the market today for our LX rides :)

Early next week I will have some prices up. I know you will be able to get them polished, brushed with clearcoat, black, red and blue. We also will have a brushed black available very similar to the mistake pistol grip color.
Here are a few more pic's in the photo studio today. You can kind of get an idea of the shaft sizes here. I will post up side by sides Monday for you all to take a look at as well. I want to again thank you guys for giving us your feedback and input on this.

I do believe the boys are doing one other shaft piece also. There is so much preperation going on right now that I am loosing track of what is what sometimes. I will make sure the guys come in here over the weekend to read again on this.
The two we showed today will most definite be available. The weather here today was difficult at best to photo outside.

The two? it looks like they are all just the tapered shaft.... or is one short and one long?
can i call dibs on the D prototype then if its not being offered =)
(oh just thought about it, as per my other questions, when you say 2 is it because the 15 degree tilt is on the shaft and not the handle?)

If you can do a red one with the long shaft, 15 degree tilt and Charger engraved on the top in classic script, I will be on that like a fat kid on a twinkie!

We can do that. You will be able to have it straight or tilted. It is the bomb when it is on the tilt. It looks great and is comfortable. The gribs are bigger for you guys on this also.

Yes, I would love to see some other shafts than the tapered one. If you do not make any others, and I see that someone has asked for the "D" demo, may I reserve "B"? Just in case? I'm salivating at the thought of this combo in black chrome. I'd go with the flat black (mistake version)...but I'm leaning towards black chrome inside the car. Want it to all match, right?
Oh, and BTW, thank you for the great product, and you're welcome for that feedback we've been giving you. It looks a bizillion times better now!

Might want to make a shaft and handle with a button and room for wires for a nitrous setup. Also, is there any way to make the handle adjustable instead of having to have so many different angled parts? It might be easier??? Is there a way to make it turn up vertically? I was thinking I wanted more of a verticle grip, but one that could be adjusted to work either way would be so much better. Just throwing out ideas.

Ok the T-Handle will be on our site tomorrow.
We will be offering them this way:
Straight short shaft : $99.00 polished
Straight long shaft: $106.00 polished
Long shaft angled 20 degrees: $114.00 polished
Short shaft angled 20 degrees : $109 polished.
Brushed old school look then clear anodzied add $20
Anodized to color, red, black, blue, dark purple or Grinner Purple (light lavender) add $20.
For those wanting to purchase the handle with both long shaft and short shaft you will be able to add either or for $15 extra, so say for instance you want to purchase a short sahft angled shifter polished for $109 you will be able to add the long shaft for $15.
Originally we planned on having a double drilled T-Handle so that you could position it straight or at the 20 degree angle.
To effectively secure the handle in either of the 2 configuartions (straight or angled) would have required 2 seperate holes so each one would be a little off center. We did not believe this would look too bad, but it would feel uncomfortable to your hand. In addition to being able to feel the unused hole and counter bore bore the finger groove would tend to drive your fingers into the shaft making for an extremely uncomfortable grip. The is the reason we are not offering a double drilled T-Handle shifter.
I'm heading out to the Charger right now to grab some pictures of the Straigh long shaft.
BilletTechnology
08-13-2007, 06:01 PM
you also will be able to choose the finish of your shaft, so say for instance you would like a black shifter and a polished shaft or a black shifter and a red shaft.
I will be spending a good amount of time on this when I add it to the site so it is clear. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call us and we can help.

Don't see much use for a shifter of this type becasue LX-platforms are autos. Now if they had a manual six-speed, the shifter would be very useful.
