We compete each month out at Byron Dragway, near Rockford, IL, and I was matched up against the club's lone SRT in the first round.

It takes more than just an engine to win at the track. Score one for the R/T guys!! :D

Not likely. Most 1/4 mile tracks are set up with the "shut down" area on an uphill slant, to make stopping easier. It's probably just an optical illusion, the uphill part makes the level track part seem like it's downhill. My local strip is the same way, the main part of the strip looks like you're heading downhill, but it really is level.

You don't really notice it until you look at the pictures, but it doesn't appear to drop when you're on it.
The 14.4 isn't that great of a time, but I was running warm.. I did get my best time ever of 14.165 on my first run when the sun was already beating down on us.
My former best was a 14.177, but the temperature was in the low 70's.
Even though those numbers don't show it, my new tires and exhaust definitely made a difference when you factor in the heat. The tires especially helped with my reaction times. - Dropping my average from a .307 to a .145! Being able to get her off the line quicker helps drastically. :)

was that a bracket race?

Yup.. You can see I only beat him by a few hundredths of a second. :D
The heat really does us LX'ers in. We run great the first few times and then suck it up when it comes time to run against each other.. You can see two of the Mustangs in the background. Not only do they run much more constant times, but they don't seem to be affected by the heat as much as we are.. :(

dumb question but didn't he get the lower ET? Did he red light or something?
I'm confused...

Yup, but I had the headstart based on the dial in time.. It was up to him to catch up, but he didn't.
The dial time is determined by your average.

It's all bout the heat management. I'm the only guy who runs the fans between races.
Too bad I lost to this guy in the second round:

He ended up winning the final when his opponent red lighted.

You guys are making me homesick for the 1/4... Used to do ~10-9s runs on Gixxers back in the day with quite a few trophies brought home, they're in the attic now after our last move now that I think about it.. May have to pop that cherry in the new R/T this Friday night. :)

It always looks that way in the pictures, but I really don't think it is..
I'm pretty sure GLD is flat and my times are better there, so I don't know. If it is a down hill track, it really doesn't appear to help any.

Thanks Bob.. :D I was hoping for a rematch today, but he didn't show.
I won both rounds, but lost in the final due to leaving my stupid cooling fans running. I bit myself in the butt on this one. :(
Also, I asked around - it's a common mis-belief that Byron is down hill because of the way it looks. Yeah, even standing there it looks like it does in the picture until you get down toward the pavement and see that the road isn't. It does slope upward after the 1/4 mark to help slow cars, but the actual track is level.

It was cool to "sort of" convoy with you guys this morning. As soon as LX's started passing my sister's Tahoe I said "Hey, I know that guy!. And that guy. And that guy. AND that guy!"
My day involved lots of beer and golf in Rockton, and, yes, I was dressed as an Amish guy. Maybe I'll post pics of that, eventually...

Yeah, that was crazy.. I recognized you as soon as I saw ya. It's funny, because Mike (UPSCharger) had his belly pan flopping down the whole way up to the Belvedere Oasis. For some reason he didn't think he needed the front two pins after changing his oil. He ended up using the bolts you gave him and fixing his problem in the parking lot. He owes you one. :D

He just added the Zex wet kit, flowmaster exhaust and an intake. Let me tell you, it's one fast ****ing Sunfire.

Midwest racing consists of 12 second cars to 15 second cars. Bracket racing is about driving skills. It's anyone's race as long as you can stay on top of your own game.
I'm not denying his car is faster, but I wasn't the one who went home after the race.

You may be right - he may be faster. But I'm just the kind of lunatic who might race him regardless. If I lose, then I lose.
But if i win....

Let this be a lesson to all of you! Maybe UPSCharger can be the "spokesmodel" for the belly pan mod video I'd like to shoot...
