The Dodge Charger—one of the biggest names from the muscle car era—has powered its way back to streets and racetracks across America, paying homage to the muscle cars of the ’60s, and adding 21st century performance and functionality.

Available with a 250 horsepower, 3.5-liter High-Output V-6 engine or the legendary 340 horsepower, 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine, the all-new 2006 Dodge Charger races into the car market with contemporary, provocative styling and substance with all the convenience of a modern sedan.

“With proven rear-wheel-drive technologies and the legendary HEMI engine, we are able to produce a modern muscle car with everyday functionality,” said Craig Love, Vice President—Rear-wheel-drive Product Team, Chrysler Group. “The all-new Dodge Charger offers the perfect blend of performance, safety and flexibility that today’s market demands.”

I really wanted a Charger R/T in red, but the most important thing was NO SUNROOF.
Got lucky and found one in locally. We have only had it for 5 weeks and have already put on some molded mudflaps from Mopar and a set of HD Rubber Floor Mats from the Road & Track Magazine.

NO SUNROOF ? Why do adamant about not having a sunroof? Just curious. I've never had one before, and ordered one last minute (the day mine went to D1). I kinda like it, probably like it more come spring. It's not much use in the winter really.

One added bonus - it allow my handheld GPS unit to work well inside the car w/o having to hold it to a window.

I posted this thread (http://www.chargerforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2716) a while back, and got some great feedback. IIRC, there weren't hardly any posts that were anti-sunroof. Still haven't made up my own mind, though ...

Folks,

I just bought (29 Dec 2005) my wife a 2006 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T in Top Banana Yellow (number 848 of 4000), with just about every option known to man in it, including the aforementioned side airbags (in the back seat, next to the rear window as well!). This is one KICK-ASS car!! Except for the fact that it has four doors instead of two, Dodge got it right with this one. The last time I drove a car with this much power was when I was 17, and I got to drive a 1968 Plymouth Road Runner GTX with a 440 in it. You could feel yourself being pushed back into the seat as you accelerated. This new Hemi does the same exact thing when you nail the throttle!! I didn't think that we'd ever have engines with this much power again, especially ones that get 25MPG on the highway. Thank God for modern technology.

As far as options go, it came with: DVD Navigation system, DVD player in the back seat, all leather interior, sun roof, airbags everywhere, 322-watt Boston Acoustics Sound system (you gotta hear it to believe it), power & heated leather seats, power mirrors, power locks, dual climate control A/C, ESP, 6-disc CD changer, U-Connect Hands-Free Bluetooth phone in the rear-view mirror, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, automatic headlights, remote garage door opener, EVIC (Electronic Vehicle Information Center - displays everything on the instrument panel - VERY NEAT!!!), steering wheel controls for all the navigation and sound system stuff (displayed on the instrument panel), rear window defogger, four-wheel anti-lock disk brakes, Auto-Stick shifter with a 5-speed automatic, adjustable pedals (THANK GOODNESS FOR THAT ONE!!!!), and a 350HP 400 LbsFt HEMI!!!!

I also have a 2006 Charger that my company provides me (I got it the day before my wife got hers), but it only has the 2.7L V-6 in it. Yes, it came with the 2.7L, not the 3.5L. You can only get the 2.7L in fleet lease vehicles, not the regular consumer Chargers, thankfully. So, we have two new Chargers in the driveway, that go from one extreme to the other. What more can you ask for? I am in hog-heaven now.......

what's the top speed of the daytona charger? i'm just kinda wondering, because my dad and i had it up to 130 before the traffic backed up, so we had to slow it down. wanna find a road around here somewhere to get it up to the governed speed (if it's governed). anyway, e-mail the page u find it on, or if u know it off the top of your head, just post it here. thanx!!

The sunroof subtracts nearly 2 inches in headroom. 6' 7" and I'll take all the head room I can find.

Sunroofs leak water, maybe not when the car is new but it will do so in time.
They take 1.2 inches out of the head room, sun gets in my eyes while driving, the add MORE weight to the car, the added cost of the sunroof.
My car looks awesome without the sunroof, nice lines.

I love my sunroof, and think it adds a classy look to the car. It was great having it open last Summer, and was useful in quickly cooling off the interior after parking . With the Chargers' small windows the sunroof is literally a breath of fresh air !

Holly Molly, I've had mine up to over 100 with no problem and quick, and now I hear it shuts down at 145. I kind of thought it it would down around 120! Now all I have to do is test it. Interstate 5 going south looks good to me. Have to find a spotter for smokey on land and sky. California is not a forgiving state when you get pinched at these speeds.
