Hello everyone, I've been following the forum for a while, but this is my first post. I've recently purchased two SXT chargers. It's a long story, but basically we bought a magnesium SXT for the wife, and I went screaming back to the dealership a month later and bought a black one myself. Now that I have one, this forum has given me the mod bug.

So, I'm looking into the basic three performance mods (CAI, exhaust, and Stage 2 chip). I have some concerns with the CAI, though. As my only source of transportation, I do have to drive in the rain and through puddles, at times. I live in Virginia, so it's not like I'm dodging hurricanes on a daily basis, but it's still a concern. Since several people on the forums seem to have CAIs, have you noticed water in the intake or a wet filter after a good rain? Or, do you just not drive unless it's sunny and dry?

Thanks for the comments...

check out this thread. I was convinced into just getting the K&N drop in filter. Open your airbox. If it's anything like the 5.7, you'll see that it's pretty much a CAI already.

I was under the impression that one of the K&N CAI's used the stock filter box around the cone shaped filter. Have you tried searching these forums for CAI or intake?

i have the k&n and really wish I had gotten the volant. both are great products though, and I don't think the rain should be much of a concern for you, mainly because it would have to make a couple of turns and then fight gravity to get to the intake tube itself. just my 2 cents.

I think a big part of my problem is not knowing what the CAI's come with when you purchase. Pictures only seemed to show an intake tube and conical filter. After reading more last night and today, it seems as though some do work with the stock airbox, and some (like Volant) replace the stock airbox.

However, after reading nCharge's last post and other posts on the forums, I think I'll probably just go with a K&N drop-in. I need to go look at the airbox this morning, but I may go with the nCharge CAI just because it looks like something that will be fun to try. That, and pulling in air from somewhere other than behind the radiator can't hurt. nCharge, I'll be sure to print out your sig and attach it to the intake tube!

Thanks for your help.

Yea, I've been playing all week again with the intake filter (conical and freeflow) and stock box, no box, under the hole install tube etc. Now that I have ALL THESE PARTS!!! I even went to Home Depot yesterday and tried one last thing... using a piece of PVC 3" all the way down through the the hole with the conical filter under the airbox frame hole (getting cool air from the depths of the bumper). Conclusion for me.... nothing runs better or as good as the stock box and the freeflow filter, be it an AirHog or K&N drop-in. All those CAI's with an open format are getting loads of heat-wash no matter what, even the heat shield thing is bogus. The Volant is the closest thing to our box and in my opinion if you wanted to buy a CAI... that would be the one. Anything better than that the part would be called a supercharger. IMHO

I just pulled the airbox off and the V6, and the airbox seems to be similar to the HEMIs. The intake tube going into the stock airbox takes a big 90 degree turn and opens into the space behind the front fascia, in front of the wheel well. So, the air should be cool enough there. Increased airflow into the chamber would be nice, but I'm not about to go cutting holes into the fascia...

Regardless, I have a couple of K&N filters on the way...

Then you'll be good to go. My 2005 300 v6 3.5 had the intake tube below too, the Charger did not come with one. So I made my own. That tube sticks up through the airbox 3 inches too doesnt it?

It does stick up a couple of inches into the box. It's odd they took it out on the HEMI Charger. It may have been too restrictive for the HEMI, but that's totally a guess.

Hi, I just installed the K/N CAI on my R/T, should I be worried about driving in heavy rain?

It would need to be submerged to cause any real issues, just dont drive in the river or in flood and you should be good.

I have yet to see a Volant CAI for the V6 offered, in fact their webpage has no CAI listed for the V6 in any dodge/chrysler car. Wish people would remember that this is the V6 discussion forum! Don't mean to rant but when people say how great their stuff is, could you make sure we can get it too?

Paradog,

Here is the last that I've heard from Volant:

Nothing yet. Still working on the kit. We thought the 3.5 Mag would work but we found out different. I,m thinking mid December for the 3.5 charger.

Joe

Originally, I was told that thier CAI should have been ready by mid-September...and I'm still waiting. All (interested) V6 owners should go onto their website and email them. More people asking for/about their CAI might help speed up the process.
