Is this an issue with your exhaust? I live in NJ, not sure of the legal specs but someone mentioned this to me as something I should be aware of. Since I'm new at all this...could someone enlighten me?!

Sounds like the standards vary by several factors in your state:

Q: What are the standards for passing the emissions portions of the test?
A: Your car is judged solely on standards for the year it was built, its make, and its model. Wear and tear are figured into the assessment.

If ur planning to do an exhaust system that isnt from the factory, well then its "illegal" ( i have had my fair share of fix it tickets). If u can find an exhaust that is "50 state legal" and then add an CIA its not longer "50 state legal". Personally, it doesnt make a difference to me weither its legal or not as long as it sounds good. :)
