Does anyone know how to tell what phones have bluetooth that will allow the UConnect to show battery and signal strength on the screen?

I will be replacing my smartphone soon with Verizon and it would be nice to find one where this worked.

I have a Motorola phone with bluetooth and it works with uconnect Just fine. (I understand any bluetooth will work fine)It shows the battery power in the nav led screen. Before this phone I had Nokia and it worked the same except The battery display was in the evic display. I have Altell as a service co. remember nokia is the main source of bluetooth, so I have limited use of bluetooth with other feachers like lap top use.

I was wondering the same thing.
I have tried a Samsung Blackjack, LG CU500 and Motorola Razr, all cingular versions.

They all work but none of them show the battery or signal strength....

I have an HP iPAQ (Cingular) and it shows battery level. I used to have a Palm Treo 650 (Cingular) and it did not show battery level.

The Magic Words are:

Hands-Free Profile

The phone must support this Bluetooth feature. Don't confuse it with a "Headset Profile"

Excellent, that is exactly what I was looking for. Now I know what to ask about.

I have a Samsung i-720 Smartphone, about 3yrs old and needing to be replaced. It syncs fine but does not show battery or signal. I have the empty icons in both EVIC and on the NAV, and was wanting to find a Smartphone that does it.

Much appreciated.

Search the forums. The Uconnect system is made by Johnson Controls. Someone posted a link at JC that showed exactly what features were supported on each phone in their list.

Best,

Best,

Thaniks, this was a big help!

sort of... doesn't look like there is a fully compatible smartphone in the group.

I've had the verizon razr and chocolate and both support this function. Of course neither of these are smartphones. If you find one please let me know because I'm thinking about going back to a smartphone.

Don't get a morotola Q - the phone's overall features are limited compared to other smart phones.

We have almost every make and model of smart phones at work that we have setup to sync with an internal exchange server, and based on each phone depends on how that works and reliability of... I also setup sr mgmt with their blue tooth sync between phone and car.

motorolla Q is extremely limited in everything we do

most popular/reliable is the Treo 700 palm (avoid the windows OS based on any exchange sync solution)

as for which phones show what on the various cars it's basically a crap shoot.... we have to many phones with to many cars to guarantee who will get what (we even have one user who's bluetooth is not voice activated, he has to use a touch screen to make or accept calls, how dumb is that?)

I've been through the list posted by GregK above (Thanks Greg). It lists all the phones they have tested with UConnect and while most of the smartphones are compatible. None of them will allow the battery / signal indicators to work.

Thanks for the info on the Q. You've confirmed what I suspected just by holding it. It feels cheaply built. Motorolla used to be known as one of the best, but I really dont believe that any more. My wife just went from a Motoralla to a Nokia. The Motorolla quit working twice for no reason at all. We heard they were having issues.

I have a Samsung i730 now and really like the larger screen. It's being discontinued and I understand they are about the release the next gen, so I'm hanging on to see what's coming.

We used Activesync at work as well for email so I really want a Smartphone. I've always been partial to the Windows phones, though I can't give you a single logical reason why. Why do you stay clear of it? What issues have you had?

I know a lot of people who use the Treo phones and all love it. I would just prefer the larger screen if Samsung puts out something decent next. Otherwise I'm sure I'll get a Treo.

Since you obviously work with this, if you know of anything new coming out or hear of a Smartphone that is fully compatible with Uconnect let me know. If you are setting up people with syncing the phones and cars, you may find the link posted by GregK useful.

BTW, did I see you in a Thread about the MyGIG system? Were you the one wanting to get it? I thought it looked pretty slick, but I already have the NAV system so I doubt I'll spend the money to upgrade it even if someone figures out how to do it.

Your help is much appreciated.

A website with a lot of cellphone information is howardforums.com. Check that out before you buy any phone to get some user feedback and see what issues people are having.

Neither the Audiovox SMT5600 (Cingular) that I used to own or the Cingular (AT&T) 8525 that I own now show the battery or signal strength. Not in either display, EVIC or LCD. A friend's Motorola SLVR did though. Not sure which version of the SLVR it was.

I've also found just recently that the 8525 will sometimes stop sending the bluetooth signal even though the phone indicates the antenna is working okay. You either have to recycle the bluetooth softkey or power the phone off and on again. Very annoying.

Interesting. I've got the 8125, which is the older model of the 8525 (both are made by a Taiwanese company called HTC), and I've never had this happen to me.

Best,

I just updated my 8525 with the latest software from HTC so we'll see if it stops acting up. It's sad to see that none of the Cingular 3G phones passed on that Blue Connect web site.

Which software? Did you also update it to Windows Mobile 6? That fixes a lot of the "ooopses" with WM5...especially the memory leaks.

These are great little phones. I totally rely on mine, especially when I'm in China since I've got a speaking English/Chinese and Chinese/English dictionary for it. The keyboard also comes in very handy for people like me with phat phingers who are dragged kicking and screaming into the world os SMS. :)

Anyone using the sidekick 3? I've gotten the recent updates and I noticed the battery and the signal show up for a split second when I make or receive a call. But it soon disappear. Anyone have this same problem?
