Completely credible. RS mentioned this on Caliberforums, and I was waiting for more details. Methinks what happened was that when looking at how many DCX (Or whatever we should call the new company) vehicles were not going to have the new faster bus for a few model years,it was decided that the cost of having two units, spread across more model lines was better.

I'm not going to bothered looking up which models and when they get the bus, but heres a made up exapmle.

2008 Model year = three models with new faster databus, Sebring, Caliber, Wrangler which might equal 200,000 MyGigs being sold in those vehicles

Each unit at that rate (200,000 units) costs say $500.

Making two units, only difference being bus speed, and maybe losing a feature like Sirius video, does cost more, but if we can then add the MyGig to all the model lines.....

2008 Model Year, all busses = Sebring/Avenger, all the LXs,All Jeeps, minivans, etc, could sell, say 500,000 units.

MyGig production cost at twice the units made? Call it $350. Since you can still charge say $1000-$1200, your making more money.

From his most recent post, it appears the MyGig face is slightly different than the currnet nav, so even us guys with the normal nav will need a new bezel, or to modify the existing one.

Its not Resumes, its another guys, thats a Jeep. Point is that the dash opening for the Jeeps current Nav and ours is the same. So, we will be able to bolt it in, but we will have that gap to deal with. I'm sure CBD or BT can "fill" the need:)

As noted, the lack of radio funcionality is just a harness away, sure beats issues with the CANbus, now that would suck:) Wires = easy, networking = hard:)

Only two versions, fast and slow. We have slow:) See, they evidently have made two versions of the MyGig, this way they can roll it out to models that wont get that fast bus for a year or two. Like the LXs, and most Jeeps.

#2 phillips takes apart almost everything on a server :) ... I use that regularly, I even have a pink one!

That info is correct in that the 125k MyGIG radios are not compatible, but 83.3k versions of the MyGIG are what's being currently tested in 2006 models.

I'm really hoping that this ends up working out. This is the first vehicle I haven't done stereo upgrades and I miss my nav. I just haven't wanted to lose my EVIC, UConnect, steering wheel controls, and Sirius. If all that will work with the MyGig and get the benefits of MyGig I am 100% on board if for a reasonable price.

The MyGIG can play DVD movies on its own screen, works great. At this time with the RER installed DVD movies can also be played independently on the rear VES (with audio via headphones). What would eventually need to be solved is to have the head unit control the VES like the REC does now.

The lower priced version is the model "REN", essentially the same as the "RER" model but without navigation. It will offer AM/FM, CD, DVD, MP3, rear camera and the 20GB hard drive. Pricing will be around 1/2 of what the nav RER sells for. All of the 2008 models offering the full version of MyGIG will also offer the "budget" version.

Your service department is partially right. The Current Mygig uses the newer higher speed Canbus that's 125k. Our cars are on the older canbus which is 83.3k. Since Chyrsler is putting the mygig as an option in the 2008 LX's and Jeeps, they found it cheaper to just design another mygig that works on the 83.3k canbus. So that's the mygig that resumespeed is working with.

Just a quick question on the RER nav...

The REC nav uses the DVD-ROM for its info (streets, gas stations, etc.). Is the RER more like a Garmin/TomTom/whatever, in that it will get its info and updates via downloading from satellites?

What I'm trying to get at is, are we going to be able to leave a DVD movie in the drive and still use the nav, or will we have to switch out the disc to the nav DVD when we want to use it? If it's not disc-based, then there's my answer. If it is disc-based, then what's the deal?

The Nav is hard drive based. So you wont have to swap discs to watch a movie. As far as updates, you most likely will still get a disc, which will load the updates into the hard drive, then remove it.

BTW, last news on this was that the functions that were not initially working needed some sort of adapter built, which a very smart person was working on.

Yeah, your're probably right, its just the configuration part of it. I've built a few pretty nice systems, but never that about putting one in the car. It's more so the electrical and heat issues that concerns me.

Yea I don't have a problem building a computer, its integrating it into the car, the stereo and installing it that deters me. Cost wise how much does it usually cost to build and install an entire system?

It's not really that much difference from building a standard PC. I doubt you will need the really crazy dual NVIDIA 9800 w/ SLI graphics card, or the 1TB of storage. You will need a DC Inverter and a DC-DC power supply. I've been doing some research on this for some time now. Balancing computer power to the car's power consumption and electrical system. I also want to keep in mind the screen options and what not. If I am gonna do this, I wanna do it right....and only do it once. If you are a system builder, then you know that you have limitless potential, as long as your wallet and electrical system will allow it.

Why not just install a AVIC-Z2? Or a Avic-D3? I have a avic-d3 and it does basically all the same things(had it installed in my previous vehicle and the nav bezel is on the way to put it in the r/t) (doesn't have a hard drive, but the avic-z2 does have a 30gb hard drive)

They make kits to keep all factory controls and features...

Cause DC (or what ever they are called now) has the seal of approval on it. I would rather replace factory for factory, unless it is leaps and bounds better.

I just went to the Dodge site to see the 08 so I could see the MyGIG and I built a car loaded to see what came with it..Man more stuff and its $1K less than my sticker on the 07. I now comes with MyGIG, Air filtering, side airbags, Uconnect is free since its in MyGIG now. You even get remote start. Man I wish I waited 5 more months.

When I was picking up my car today from the dealer, I asked about the MyGig. They said the CAN bus was way different and they were absolutely not going to be compatible with anything under 2008 model vehicles. Then the parts manager came in and confirmed... :(

I don't believe the dealers 100%. They also told me that I could not get the uconnect mirror aftermarket...but guess what...mopar supsercenter sells the kits.

I do believe that getting the mygig won't be easy but it appears to be proven that it can work

First off u will need the mygig from one of the slower can c bus vehicles. one out of new minivan will not work since it is the higher speed bus these are more available but will not work. ALso the connector is different than on an 06 charger. All the wires are the same just different positions. So my plan in the next week is to build a jumper connector from 06 connector to new my gig connector. That way nothing has been modified on the car itself. I am going to use the mygig without nav. also there is issues if your car has a radio amplifier mine does not so I am not looking at this issue. I am not concerned with steering wheel control and such since i don't have them or handsfree operation for the cell phones. The Only thing I have not figured out is the antenna for the am/fm since it is different than on the 06 also. Worse case senerio I run the newer style antenna like on the 07-08 cars. If someone reads this and has an antenna adaptor that works let me know. I am doing some checking to see if the radio bezel will be interchangeable from the new 08 chargers with my gig that way I will not have to build a new radio bezel, again if anyone out there has an 08 with my gig see if the bezel is still made the same attaching points in the same place. Hope to get this done by thanksgiving time for road trips. As each piece is done I will update with part numbers, pictures etc. I am sick of waiting on some one else to do it so I will pull the trigger worse case senerio I have a mygig to resell and a few bucks wasted on wiring harness.

There is a rumor of some "meeting" with DC that could end up with retrofitting older LX's with MyGig. The only thing I've heard so far is that this meeting is supposed to take place in a couple of weeks.

But I would want the NAV to work, and I have EVIC (steering wheel controls) and UConnect (Bluetooth to my cellphone), and would want them to work, also. :(
