Check out the Eclipse AVN5510 and AVN6610. We looked at the Pioneer (which I thought I would like better) but ended up picking the Eclipse. I thought the features were better, easier to use, and about the same price after adding blue tooth, steering wheel controls, iPod adapter and Sirius.

I've had her for a month or so now and I am HAPPY with my choice. Pros: Sound is great, features are great and easy to go back and forth. The color options are a real nice touch. Cons: The NAV takes a bit of getting used to. Still haven't masterd it but the times I've used it it has never failed me :)

I have it and agree with Qbinican. Actually bought one for both of my vehicles. Very easy to use, great features and if you shop around you can get it for less than 800 new.
The only drawback for some is that it only has one drive so if your listening to a cd you cant have your Nav disk in to load new maps if you are traveling across the area od the map that is loaded. I have all my songs on my IPOD so this does not bother me at all and the Ipod interface is flawles. You can even play Ipod videos on it.

The NAV vs CD issue was one of the biggest reasons we went with the Eclipse but Kalbc is 100% correct about the iPod interface, and with that interface installed we have played exactly zero CD's.

I just picked up a Pioneer D3 on Monday.. from Crutchfield. I got an amazing deal on it. I can't wait to hook it up and use it. the only down fall is that i have to wait for an alarm. I refuse to install it untill i get an alarm and a few other final things.

Security is one of the reasons I haven't already pulled the trigger on a NAV unit. My car isn't in a garage. Even with my paging alarm, I don't feel that it will be safe. I wish you could take the displays off of these things.

I really liked the look of this (and was about to pick one up) ... but every place I try says it won't fit in the Charger!
What are the details of this? Does it fit in only some models of the Charger or all?
I have a 2007 Charger SE ... please tell me I can get this!!

There are no differences in the dashes of all Charger models. The reason some people like cruthchfield say it will not fit is because they are not taking into acount that you can change the bezel to acomodate double din units like the mopar factory Nav system.

kalbc is correct. you can purchase the Pioneer D3. there computer system doesn't take into account that you can purchase a different bezel and it fits perfectly.
So go get one.
grey1, I feel your pain. however it does look alot like the factory nav unit so hopfully this will help evade theives.
I am going to a mod soon that may help everyone in the security of their stereo equipment. when i'm finished i'll show pics.

Hey Guys... The D3 Is Installed And Im Loving It. Looks Good, Sounds Good, Works Great, Fits Perfect!!! Ill Try To Get Some Pix Posted, Hang Tight...
And Yes It Does Fit In Any Charger. I Just Had To Purchase The Navi Bezel From The Dealership, And Get The Right Dash Kit For The Bezel So That A Double Din Will Fit, And It Turned Out Great. Looks Like It Came From The Factory!!!
If You Are Looking For A Well Priced All-in-one Unit Go With The D3.
And No Pioneer Didnt Tell Me To Say That!

I have the D3, I love it as well. Nav features are pretty easy in my opinion and if you get the dash kit it makes it look factory. I have the XM tuner adapter as well which I almost never use, not that great in terms of product selection IMO but the D3 Rocks.

Excellent!! Thanks for the tip(s)!
I'm going to order the nav bezel now.
Once it's all installed and ready to go I too will post some pix!
Thanks again!

I just received my D3 today in the mail from crutchfield. I'm so excited.
I got the pioneer D3, CD-BTB200-blue tooth, ND-BC2- rear view camera, SIR-PNR2 sirus, install kit, CD-I20-IPOD adapter, antennta adapter...
Unfortunately i will have to wait till i get my alarm to install it along with my system....
Also on a different note.. i'm having problems getting photo's on here. it always tells me i'm over the 341 max limit. so i half to scale them down to nothing to get them to fit. How does everyone get there photos on here.. i've seen some pretty nice photos...
Here's my butchered photo of my new equiptment:

Good news for me! I HATE the way the little ears look when you install a DIN sized aftermarket. One question... what exactly do you mean by "re-wire" the harnass? I want to do something that can be easily undone in the case of "Wife says it would look better in her car" - which happens quite a lot...
Sorry, I read the other thread about the D3 and picked up the wiring question there =)

Well what they're talking about is using a wiring harness. If you use a wiring harness you wont' cut the orginal harness so you can just remove the aftermarket radio, and disconnect the harness, so all you're left with is the OEM harness that'll plug directly into the stock radio.

I did some research and found one on Crutchfield for like $129.95. Said something about being able to use the "stock" amp. Well, I wont have one of those (most likely, unless I can convince my pocketbook to spring for the R/T) so that would still work right?

I got the pioneer z1 and absolutley love it. It does so much. I can save music to its hard drive. I can load custom pictures (thanks HazMan) to the background. I live in biloxi and after Katrina the roads are different but the unit automatically updates new roads. I has a 3d view of where you are going with little buildings or signs for points of interest. I have the bluetooth, ipod, and steering wheel controls interfaces so it is just like stock except it doesn't show up on the vehicle info center in the insrument cluster. Bootom line this unit is **** HOT!

I put mine in last weekend, and so far am loving it. I haven't had any issues with the unit, everything works well, and for me at least, was pretty intuitive. I would readily recommend. My friend who helped me already is thinking about getting one for himself.

Can you rig the pioneer D3 so the dvd player works while driving?
Darth Mandarb
05-17-2007, 04:34 PM
There is a "bypass" that can be done to enable the dvd to play while in drive yes. Just google for it, and you can find it. Or if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, take the unit to an installation place and slip 'em a 20 they'll probably do it for you.
I have ordered all the parts for mine ... I'm installing it this weekend and I can't wait! I demo'd it at Best Buy this week and it's got everything I need/want. Can't wait!

I used this article to do the bypass.

Note: if you use the mute wire and you have a bluetooth system in your car, the music won't automatically mute when the phone rings, or so I've heard. I don't use that option in my car, so I didn't look into if there are other wires you could use for the bypass.
On another note, I haven't hooked up my VSS wire yet, and don't know where to hook it up. If anyone knows, could they let me know. I've also heard that this is something that I might have to bypass as well, but haven't seen a solution to it. Any help would be appreciated. I'm set to finish my install on Saturday, get the dash speakers and door tweeters wired up, as well as the gps receiver for the navigation. Wish me luck!!

I have a Pioneer Bluetooth, and mine just interupts the song or radio. I think there is a setting in the Pioneer's that you can disable it, but then, what'd be the point of having it?
The only pain is, and this is just a limitation of the technology, you have to re-sych it everytime you turn off the ignition. If you have lots of stops, it sucks to re-do it everytime, but it is convenient and safe...that's for sure. Beats all of these idiots driving around not using turn signals because their hand is up to their ear, right?

With the factory system I dont' have to resync my phone at all. Just the first time. Maybe your pioneer isn't hooked up with a constant on power connection

I didn't install it. I'll look at the manual. Might be a workaround that could work in my favor. Thanks for pointing that out!

Hey All,
Are you able to use the volume controls, etc. on the steering wheel with the D3??
Hey All,

Of course! ...Just like almost any other unit you simply have to get the appropriate wiring kits from PAC. (SWI-CAN, SWI-PS)

D3 owners: Ive read some reviews online where people complain about the volume being too low when using the Navigation. (Im talking about the turn-by-turn direction prompts)... Supposedly Pioneer is aware of that and will fix it in the next model they come out with. Have you experienced this problem??
Also, how good/accurate is the Navi?

I'm thinking of getting the Clarion MAX675VD w/ the NAX970HD... The iPod controls on this made me choose to go with this over the D3 (along with the price and HDD navigation). It lacks bluetooth though. I'm a loyal Pioneer customer, but I had to go with the Clarion. http://reviews.cnet.com/car-video/clarion-max675vd/4505-3426_7-31849858.html

I have the D3 and the Bluetooth module. I have never had to resynch. It connects to my phone automatically everytime I get into the car. I didn't do the bypass. Maybe something about the bypass screwed it up for you.

haha, i actually just bought one online the other day and then saw this thread right after. i didn't realize that they don't have a double din dash for the unit. where do i get one???? i'm having mine installed by circuit city and i'm going to assume they don't have the proper dash. is there anything else i should get that you all think they wouldn't have??
