I started to reinstall my Carputer in my Charger, after my Ford Explorer (Expolder) died. This is still very rough, though it should give some ideas of what I am working on. :wink:

The screen mounted in my dash! :rockon: :rockon: I have the guys at Carbon By Design making me the proper part so it will be nice and flush mounted, and look factory. Untill I get it in, I have to deal with the side cutouts from the factory unit... :yield:

I did a set up like this in my EVO, it was a great set up. Lots of fun building.
Are you using a switched power source or a shut down controller for it? What about front ends, which are you using? I ran Road Runner.

--> falchulk Right now it’s actually a Dell Optiplex GX260 (since it’s a small footprint MB.. it’s a p4/1.2ghz with 512 ram and a 500gb SATA2 hd... Its a lilput touch screen, MS SIRF III GPS and Linksys 802.11G Wifi, SanDisk Bluetooth for my cellphone, so I have "hands free", and a Radioshark USB radio (which stinks... looking for a better one.):dead: :dead:

Damn! n Must need a hefty power supply for that huh? I use to run a m10000 via system with a 60 watt dctoactodc converter in my truck.It was only like 11x11x2 and had a laptop DVD writer. I used a 7 inch touchscreen monitor.
I actually have a normal 220 PSU with a radioshack inverter.... like I said... its going to the way of the dodo.... as soon as I find a PSU/controller, and I am thinking of going to the M10001 and using a solidstate drive for my OS and then run a halfheight laptop drive for storage.
Some more pictures... giving more feel for what I have done.... sorry about the bad quality... my wife decided to take my camera for the "Girls Night out" and it came back after a bath of Gin and Tonic.... :cry:
The glare on the screen is not as bad as you would think... I used a camera phone which does a great job of making it look worse then it is. 95% of the time I do not have glare... and I am getting my windows tinted so it will remove that last 5%

duck hunt? haha wat a trip.
Its duck hunt with a twist... Its touch screen... which is neat, though upsets me when I see thousands of finger prints all over my screen, and 2 it has the option to use a machine gun... (for when you need to kill LOTS of ducks)

Nice, I've been a member of mp3car.com forums for years now. Maybe one day I'll get my stuff installed. I already have the 7" Liliput touchscreen LCD and a small P4 computer. Dude, I used to have those same Profile amps back in the mid 90's, those are old school.
So is the Sub... thats one of the old school Rockford Fosgate Power series. :) I used to have them in my old Maxima... They work... and I am not much of a fan of some of the new amps and subs... :)

I hear ya, all my stuff is about 8-9 years old. I still have my old RF Punch 500 and JL 12w3's. I've beat the hell out of it and it still sounds great after all these years.

Things you need :
1) Small form PC
2) Touchscreen LCD (7" is biggest you go, unles s you want to hack your dash alot
3) aftermarket amps
4) Factory > aftermarket wireharness
5) USB FM Tuner (for radio) / USB GPS / USB Wifi
6) ALOT OF Apsrine or Vodka
7) Startup Shutdown contoller
8) to be slightly insane
Options 6 and 8 are the most important ones. :lol:
Seriouly... thats the very very basic rundown... I would suggest you take a look at www.mp3car.com (http://www.mp3car.com), and look at some of the newbie guides... they really help you get started. If you have any point blank questions, let me know... this is my 4th carpc I have put it... I may not be the best fabracator... but I know the electric and computer side of things.

I hear ya, all my stuff is about 8-9 years old. I still have my old RF Punch 500 and JL 12w3's. I've beat the hell out of it and it still sounds great after all these years.
I have a set of 10w3s in my garage and (dead) but some old rockford fosgate punch 250a's that I was useing... I think I'm on an ebay hunt to find some replacements... and do the whole audio system in old school goodness.

Those are the devices I use... and I have a Verizon 6700 cell phone, that I use as a modem to get on Verizons EVDO network so I can get internet access when I cant find a free wifi hotspot

Nice.. I didn't think there was a device for AM reception on PCs. Reception would still be bad? How big is the RadioShark, does it go under the dash near the gps?

Thje radioshark gets AM/FM and works ok.... the "FIN" antenna sucks... Silabs has a AM/FM that we can hack thier antenna cable and use the stock OEM window antenna on the Charger. I am looking into that... and if you have more dollars to throw at this... there is a HD AM/FM tunner... that supposed to be 100% perfect... THOUGH they are not the 30/40 they are 300/400 $ I have come to realize... with over 50k songs in my car... who the hell needs a radio! :knockout: :grin:

Though its hard to find a reseller for them... ALOT of people are using it and very few have ever complained. I cant say first had as I dont have one (yet)... its on order :whistle:
