The Dodge Brand Management group has asked us to help get your input if you own a Charger Daytona R/T or are interested in buying one in the future.
They created the current Daytona R/T and are evaluating where they go next for Charger. They’re also developing Daytona-like packages for other future cars. So understanding your answers to the following will help.
This is a 2 part poll, the other poll for people who have NOT already purchased or ordered their Daytona R/T is located here:

Also, feel free to post any other comments/suggestions. Thanks for the help.

All in all, I love the Daytona, however I think that they need to do more to the front and rear end then what they did..
The front end needs something more aggressive, like they did with the SRT, and the tail end needs more flare as well... so when you pass someone on the highway, they are looking at something that reflects power, and does not look like an Intreped from the rear.
Tire options should be availble as well, The Michilens are a huge bonus over the Conti's on the R/T, but for those of us who do not live in the snow belt, a more agressive performance tire would be nice.
On the inside, maybe change the stearing wheel spoke faces to match the center stack, as the silver on the stearing wheel looks out of place.

Done!!
I agree they could have done a little more with the front and rear of the charger to make it look more reminiscent of the early model charger.

Since the Daytona is the top of the line for the 5.7L powered chargers... why not give us the 3 position ESP button as well?
And a better rear axle ratio for better acceleration. Yeah the Daytona has 10 more HP... but it is not noticeable... a better rear axle ratio would give the Daytona more impressive acceleration numbers

Also - I think the Daytona should have come with the SRT hood. This would have made the car really stand out from other Chargers not just a paint and graphics package.

ok, my 2 cents.............being female and all............the inside needs more color on the doors!!!!! They are too plain. They need something else done to them. Maybe "charger" embossed on them in corresponding color. Maybe some matching trim like what is on the dash..........
maybe they can make the change before they start the Top Banana's......it looks like they have time to change it..................no one is in a hurry to start production................

The Daytona should be offered as a package on ALL trim levels...then you would have some real collectability...how many srt-8 daytona's would have been built? V6 sxt? etc...plus the rear end of the SRT-8 should be offered, even as an upgraded "performance" package...just my .02....

I ordered a Daytona Top Banana due to the limited number of units being built. I wanted something different than everyone else had. If I could not get the Daytona package, I would have ordered a Chrysler 300C because I like it better than any other Charger except the Daytonas. So please keep my order and build my car! :monster:

I do Love my Daytona but the things I least like are the grey interior trim and light headliner. I would have preferred the interior to be all one dark color (black) with some orange accents on the door panels to complement the seats and the center stack.

I had seriously considered not getting a Go ManGo Daytona just on the chance that Dodge decided to do a Purple Haze one as a 2007, but in the end decided I couldn't take that sort of chance with what I was driving :D

I agree, I prefer that the interior should be one dark color. I would prefer if the doors were covered in leather or suede with the orange stiching if needed. Also the Daytona logo on the doors.

The calipers on the car should be or at least color matched with DAYTONA on them. I think the small details make up a nice looking car.

Love my Daytona :)
My only other Charger choice would have been an SRT-8 but i didn't want to pay for a gas guzzler tax; we're being over taxed at the pump as it is....

The interior of the Daytona is by far the best looking of all the Chargers. The color matching with the exterior just sets it off. I agree with Daytona R/T, the color could and should have been used on the steering wheel as well as in other places.
As for the outside of the car, the paint and graphics are great but I'm itch'en to see what a burnt orange SRT-8 hood with the Daytona hood graphic would look like. Also, an 18" version of the SRT-8 wheels would be really cool.
The last thing is the exhaust. I was disappointed in the sound, so I'm changing out the "suitcase muffler" to two Magnaflows, hope it sounds like it has 350 horses when I get done. I mean, they supposedly already changed the exhaust on the Daytona from the other R/T's, why not do it right the first time?

The doors were definitely a huge drwaback. I loved the exterior then the dealer opened the door and I was dissappointed. I added orange and black carbon fiber to the doors for just a little added color and what a difference it made.

Small changes to the exterior other then the color and black decals would have been nice. Body molding or vents on the front wheel wells to release heat.

I have been talking about this car since the Auto Show..My partner at work has been listening to me ramble on for almost 2 years about this car..He knows Im a MOPAR only guy and did not think at the time that they were very going to bring back the Challenger so I have been hot to trot for the Daytona for awhile..So last Friday we are at lunch and he is like Merry Christmas and Im like yea the same and he is dangling the keys and hands them to me..I was like in shock..I started working for this guys 3 years ago and worked my way up to a junior partner from V.P. and I was acting like a little kid in a 34 y/o body...But anyway enough rambling..I absolutely love my #3117 and did not pick anything about the car but it is just perfect.

From what I've seen of the Daytonas.. and now being in a position to at least sell them.
I feel they should have had a more pronounced spoiler (more reminiscint<sp> of the original Daytonas)
Plum Crazy should have been revived as a color choice.
I agree with all who feel it needs a darker interior & color matched calipers for an added touch.
I feel it needs a deeper exhaust tone as well as more gear. It has a 5 speed already; so why not make at least a 3.55 rear available. I'd love to see it with a 3.92 in it.
Although I am looking forward to our Black SRT-8 arriving shortly.
Anyone want it??

I agree, the doors are definitely a huge drawback. I love the rest of the car but am very disappointed in the doors. Also in the silver on the steering wheel. They both seem very cheap.
Now my only problem is deciding whether to drive the Daytona R/T or my Chrysler Crossfire.

Just picked up my Top Banana #44 out of 4000 yesterday. So far I do like it a lot and I don't think the doors are that bad either. I prefer 4 doors on a large car like the Charger instead of 2 HUGE doors. Now on my Audi TT or the Crossfire 2 doors are a no brainer. I also do like the spoiler on the Daytona. Much better looking then the regular crappy spoiler that you get with the other R/T models. The suspension feels a bit soft for a Musclecar but I am okay with the performance so far. I really haven't floored it yet because I want to break it in gently for at least 500 miles ;)
The only thing I think that could be better is the interior. Too much cheap plastic even with the Daytona Trim. For a 35k+ car they could've done better.

The only thing that im displeased with ,is my charger daytona came WITHOUT the EVIC unit, and on the dodge .com build site it is NOT mentioned as an option at all,and my local dealer doesnt know what im talking about !!!

For me it was several factors:
1) Economics: The Charger R/T with the R/T packge is what I wanted initially. But I also wanted the rear spoiler, the front black chin, and the black grill. Once I realized that the Daytona had all of this and a few things more, for the differente ($300-400 I think), the Daytona was definitely a better value.
2) Unique paint/scheme: Although I did not like the Go-ManGO! as much, the Top Banana was nice to me (and more importantly) to my wife.
3) Resale value: The limited production helps retain value better than a "regular" Charger.
Still, the Daytona should have the SRT-8 hood and the larger wheels and tires from the SRT-8 models. The Daytona looks to have way too small tires as it is now.

Daytona #3636
I purchased GoManGo 3533. Funny but I had the same reactions... I love nearly everything about the car... but a few glaring errors: Door panels that look way out of place on such a nice car, the silver on the steering wheel (when the orange center area looks so great), and the lack of hood opening shocks (STUPID to put a hood prop on a car this nice)... otherwise I love the car. It was optioned with nearly every option available.. just like I wanted. (and yes I now have hood shocks, Automatic Headlights, and cabin air filtration, thank you..) I'd have bought an SRT-8 instead ... if it had come in GoManGo and had Daytona graphics also.

I love mine, 2 things I hope DCX never does......
Offer the Daytona again in Go Mango, or Top Banana. Car will be a collectors Item in 20 years if there are only 4000 of each of these colors.
Ever offer Plum Crazy Purple in a Charger, it should be reserved for the Challenger. A Daytona version of the Challenger in Purple and Lime is what I hope they do.

02-17-2006, 05:56 PM
gomango 1690 and loven it, just startin to mod it for performance
only thing is there were already 2 in gomango in my town when i got mine :(
but you can bet im the only one to drive it like its supposed to be driven :D
4 doors good for me cuz i got a lot of uhhh 'big' friends so i dont care about complaints from that (ever see two 250lb guys in the back of a GTO?)
the automatic helps for bussiness cuz i do not have bluetooth and need to take a lot of calls (i know you can drive stick with a phone, but safer is better than sorry)
i asked the dealer if there was going to be a 07 daytona, they didnt know then(if they even know now), i hope not in mango anyway, but if they do it dosent really matter cuz i would never rid of this car (10k miles in 4.5 months :D)
only problems are the squeaky breaks and if im racing in 1st and 2nd round town too much when i come to idle she shakes (from engine to pipes) kicks out large amount of exhaust and then the oil light comes on and the engine cuts.......
restarts but if i dont take it to a parking lot to let it cool it'll do it again at the next red light/idle (shake and cut)
im new to forums so ill go check this out in the maintence section
other than this --- im in love with this car

My wife and I love our Charger. It's #469 We bought it 6 months ago the car flys, The 4 doors make it mildly practical for her to do business in. If Dodge will actually build another pony car I will buy that too. The Mustang has owned the market for a long time( I have 3), GM is a management and design joke. Dodge should've built these a long time ago, at least we have them now, the fit and finnish of this auto is OUTSTANDING. I can't wait to do our first mod to improve performance of this great HEMI engine.

I just picked up Top Bannana #509 3 weeks ago and i love this car. I agree with some of the changes you guys have said, but overall i just love this car. I hadnt bought a new car for the last 3 years because i knew something would come along that would blow the rest away. And now that i bought mine i see they are becoming very scarce at the dealers.
For all the little things that dodge should have changed i think they did an incredible job, this car outhandles my friends AWD and then some.
More luxury and power then most any other car on the road. I opted for every last option that was available and still walked away with this thing for 34 grand so i have no complaints. The new mustangs are just a bad joke now in comparison and my neighbor with one admits it after driving my car.
My only regret is that i cant garage this this car and keep less then 1000 miles on it sell so one day i can trade it on barrett jackson for $150,000. Im gonna drive it till the wheels fall off and enjoy every second of it.

Just got my TorRed Daytona less than a week ago. Love everything about it. Check with me in about 3 months and then I can tell you what I wished they had done to it. By then I probably will have begun the modding phase and done it myself.
I do agree with the exhaust note (should be lower), and door complaints (more color). Other than that she is perfect!!!

The hood struts were deleted from the build list to keep the price of the Charger down. You can order them and install them yourself for around $50. Takes a total of maybe 10 minutes to install them. Well worth the money spent.

I bought my TorRed about 3 weeks ago as well. I have not had so much fun owning a car as I do with this one! I also liked the limited 2000 production run. When I went to the dealer, all they had was the Top Bannana, I told them I wanted the TorRed and they were convinced that I was off my rocker. They tried to sell me an Inferno Red with Daytona stickers installed by the dealer (for an additional $2k)! I told them where they could find it at another dealer or would they prefer that I go to that other dealer? Four days later I was handed the keys and haven't stopped smiling since!

I voted that I bought it from a dealer over 25 miles away. I actually traveled about 1 hour 20 minutes to a dealer that had mine in stock. I knew the options I wanted, and Go Mango was my #1 choice. Also, low miles on the car was a concern. I bought mine 2 weeks ago with only 600 miles on it.

I have TorRed 1853 from Raleigh NC. I have never had so much fun in a car. I had a built 383 in my 1970 Road Runner and it was nowhere near as much fun as this car. I saw a website of old Mopar guys bashing our cars. I am a Mopar nut from years ago (I'm 45 now) and owned several good old machines. But nothing handled, had the smoothness, or stock ass kisking fun of these daytonas. I drove the SRT8 and am jealous of people that can afford the gas and tires for them. That car hauls serious a$$.
If you remove the gas guzzler tax from one, it is about the same price as a Daytona. Makes me wonder why we didn't get a cool hood or better wheels...

Found my Daytona long before I found this site - I've put a bit over 2k miles on her now and I'm stilled thrilled at the performance. I was a hotrodder in my younger years, and now at age 73 I'm back at it again!
Latest I've heard is that 2007 will bring Sublime and Plum Crazy colors (in that order).

I am very happy with all of the colors but GoManGo. I've always loved that color but was disappointed to see it as this burnt orange instead of the bright color that I was used to seeing on the old Chargers. I am please with TB and TorRed. Those two look awesome. I would want a GoManGo if it was a bright orange. So far my favorite is TorRed. I hope to see that color land on the SRT8's in '07.

I agree with a lot of what has been said. I originally pursued an R/T with the R&T package, but finally came to the conclusion that it was a good deal to just go for the Daytona. Plus I think I got a better price versus EPP b/c the dealer I bought mine from had 8 TorRed Daytonas and he would have had to get an R/T with the R&T from another dealer and would have probably not given me as good a price versus EPP. I've had it almost 10 days now and it does seem like almost a surreal feeling...like, "I can't f-ing believe that I'm driving a car this NICE!"
I wouldn't call the numbered badging and the special colors "key" to my decision, but they were a small part of the equation. Once I drove a Daytona, I knew that I really wanted one versus a standard R/T and since standard R/T with R&T were hard to find in my area, it become pretty clear that I was getting a Daytona. I didn't really care about what # I got, just the fact that I would have 1 of 2000 Reds and 1 of 10000 total Daytonas was pretty cool to me.

I'll throw my vote in for this as well, adding the R&T group and some random stuff brings a normal 5.7 Charger in line with a Daytona - and u get snazzy paint colors with a Daytona :)
I am slightly miffed that the 2007 model year will have Torred as a "pedestrian" color choice, but really, the color wasn't why I got the car... it's more of just the car being so damn cool and happens to be red.

I am slightly miffed that the 2007 model year will have Torred as a "pedestrian" color choice, but really, the color wasn't why I got the car... it's more of just the car being so damn cool and happens to be red. That kind of bothers me a little bit, too. I might have tried a little harder to find a yellow one that was equipped the way my Torred is had I known. Guess I should have found this place sooner.

What drew me to the new Charger...I'm a 68 charger owner (hemi orange) had it since I was 17. Got older, then married, and 3 kids later I heard rumors of the charger coming back, this was pre Daimler. Told my wife if they ever came to market in orange I'd have to buy one. They did and I had my sights set on number 246 go mango but timing was off and it wasn't ment to be. Then 2 months ago lots of work and Finally I got mine #2235. Like everyone else a few more cues from my 68 would have been nice, But all in all I'm happy with it. Everywhere I go I do get compliments on the color. in 3 months I only clocked 800 mi took it on vac to N.C. OBX and finaly got the odometer up to 2200 mi. only mods Itinted the window with a mopar logo in the rear glass. Done to mimick the old style of pinstripe(thanks to inspiration from MCG magazine. (newbie) note thats inside the glass.

Daytona edition was not my original choice, but it was on the lot and dealer offered me a good deal
i orginally was seeking a more tame black or dark blue SXT
but i'm actually very glad it worked out that way, i love the Daytona!

I really hadn't considered the Charger very strongly, mainly because it had 4 doors. But I sat in a TB Daytona at a car show and fell in love with it. I really liked the color, but what really sold me on the car was the interior. The seats are great, with perfect mixture of support, bolstering, and comfort. I really like the suede inserts. Then the color-matched stitching and the generous headroom and legroom sealed the deal, along with the limited production. I was ready to buy a TB, but the SO was not too thrilled with the color. But when I found out TorRed was coming, I placed my order right away.
The only things I would change would be to keep the color unique to the Daytona (making TorRed a production color was a cheap shot), and maybe upping the horsepower to 375, so that the Daytona slotted betweed the R/T and the SRT in performance. A lower gear ratio would be nice, too.
Other than that, you did a hell of a job, Dodge! BTW, this is my first Mopar. You converted a life-long GM guy.

I love my ManGo, but considering the status of the name Daytona, you would think that DCX would make it the top of the line option vehicle. The car should have the 3 position ESP and the 6.1 Hemi along with other limited options such as 20's and the interiors.

I have # 441 of 2000 Tor Red fully loaded and I am lovin it. The SRT hood would have been nice or the "shaker" set up. I am also looking forward to seeing the 08 Challenger!

I entered into the Chrysler Dealership in March to buy parts for my 1991 Dodge Shadow... She was there!!! In the Showroom. I totally fell in love with my 2006 Dodge Charger Daytona R/T (Top Banana # 137/250). I was not supposed to buy a car that day, but after we went for a test drive... well you can guest the remaining of my story.
One thing I have to say about it... she is really bad on speeding tickets!!!

Love my '06 RT with r&t package....special ordered the car with everything my way. I usually buy a new car every 15-20 months...have done so for the last, almost 20 years, starting back in 1987 with a 1987 Buick GN. This Charger has been one of my favorites for various reasons. But, after reading that the 2007's will have 20" wheels, I'll be on to something different. 20" wheels and driving 35,000 miles per year (getting paid the IRS rate), just doesn't compute. You should have saved that wheel for the Daytona, let people get the RT with the Daytona powertrain (with the r&t option) and then have a 20" wheel option available. Probably will lose me next time....but it's been great while it lasted!

Had mine shipped from Tennessee to Austin, TX 2 months ago. Not too many new Go Mangos on the market anymore. It was that or nothing for me, didn't want anything else. I love it.

Just picked up my '07 Sub Lime # 146 last Tuesday. My dealer got it from another dealer, so it had 250 miles on it. No NAV no Uconnect, but otherwise pretty much the way I would have ordered one.
Now it has over 1000 miles. Took it down to the NOPI show in St. Louis with the Windy City LX guys. It pulled 289 hp on the dyno with 742 miles on the odometer. Sub Lime was the color for me. I've been wanting a Daytona and would have been happy to have had a ManGo, but couldn't afford one then. I get a lot of thumbs up when driving around.

Drove 300 miles to get mine 2007 Charger RT with the Road and Track group- so a Daytona without the stickers. Silver and riding on stock 20" chrome, Loaded with everything but the rear seat video. Couldn't be happier:grin:
Don't know how many Road and Track groups are being made?

I'm not sure if they're still asking, but I'll drop my two cents worth...
The Daytona package is positioned as one step down from the Ultimate Ride - the SRT8. Future Daytona packages must have:
Hood props. This is not a car built for the kiddies who still live off Mom & Dad. Put a friggin' hood prop on it. I bought them and installed them myself. Great investment.
Light under the hood. Talk about cheap. How much did that save? $3.00?
Better door trim. Drab grey is just that - drab.
If you 'improve' the product after the first run, make the improvements available to all. I bought GoMango #0234 and I don't have the heated mirrors, or "true" automatic headlights that the later '06 Daytonas had. I'm the guy who gets out there in front of the pack and shows off the product. Reward me. Even if there is some low cost charge, offer it. I'd pay $200 to upgrade to the latest.
One free navigation update. Yeah, you probably won't do it, but hey, I gotta ask!
This one may piss people off, but offer them in more limited availability. If you are going to have a Road & Track Package, differentiate the Daytona package by limiting the runs to 1500 or less. I thought I had a great and rare deal with my GoMango Daytona (especially after the news of that car carrier full of them crashed). Then I discovered that my Blue '86 Shelby Charger had less than 800 made.
Daytona embroidered floor mats. Yes, I bought them from the dealer after the fact, but come on. Hook a brother up!

I'm the proud new owner of #3874 of 4000 Top Banana Daytona's! I live in Minnesota, and found it on a dealership lot in Wisconsin last week during a family reunion. I love it so much, but the CD changer isn't workin, I'll have to take that in. Great to see a forums for us owners.

I agree they could have done a little more with the front and rear of the charger to make it look more reminiscent of the early model charger.

the beauty is the car speaks for itself, sporty yet not overkill or unnecessary flash. the styling is qquite alright save perhaps a tad longer frnt end

Ah heck, you can slap a better set of 20" tires on that thing- something I'm already looking into, btw, that will give you a better return on mileage before replacement. Kumho looks like they are a good option over the OEM Goodyear Eagles (of which only have a 260 treadwear rating), and all user reports indicate they will wear pretty fast. Pirelli is another, but spendy, and I'm not sure youi'll get THAT much more mileage out of them than the Eagles. I've seen the Kumhos for about $147-150 apiece. Not only can you get the 'IRS mileage rate', but I also think you could deduct at least part of the tire cost as part of yearly maint for your car. Just a thought.

As a 07 Charger R/T Road & Track owner, should we lump our cars in with the Daytona's? I would like to see its own section if possible.
Granted, the "R/T R/T" is Daytona without the 'Daytona' decal schwag, right? (leveling shocks, upgraded exhaust, 10 more HP, etc etc) But there is still a distinct difference in the two models, so much so that even at the Dodge website, finding the R/T R/T is not easy- in fact it isn't even on the main model submenu for Chargers. When you click on "Models & Colors" the Rt Rt doesn't show at all, which to the avg consumer, can be confusing.
So I would like to chip in on this thread with requests and/or suggestions , but technically, our car isn't an official 'Daytona' in trim, but it certainly is in build.
Personally I think the RT RT is a brilliant offering that I hope they continue. I would also like to see a meaner/more aggressive (but classy) hood on it, perhaps the SRT8 hood, but then again, the 6.1 SRT8 IS an exclusive that somewhat deserves a presentation of it's own...

How does the straight pipes sound on the Daytona? I am thinking about doing the same thing but I am a little worried that it will sound to loud for work, etc.

I just love our new edition to our family- we have welcomed our Plum Crazy Charger on Saturday in Brooklyn, New York. We drove her home to Pennsylvania and what an excellent ride she is. We would like to know how to register her with her Plum Crazy siblings- if anyone who reads this could direct me to that website, I'd appreciate it and thank you in advance.

we just purchased a go mango daytona. my whole family loves the car. I like the low #'s and the plate looks cool. we drove a hundred miles to buy the car. The look of the daytona really sets it apart from the rest of the chargers. I can't wait to see the new ones and what they change.

Well, for me it was just that it's a big family sized American sedan, that is still fun for me to drive.
We recently adopted two children, and went to the dealer to trade in my 03 Mustang GT conv on a mini-van (with our heads down). I looked up and saw the ol' Charger, and after loading the kids seats in the back, and going for a drive (I almost messed my pants when I stepped on it.), we wen't home a very happy family.

Possibly more of interest to Dodge... I bought an R&T because there was no difference except the "look at me!" paintjob and while I mulled it over many times in my head... I decided that I didn't want any more attention than just a R&T. If there was more to it, hood scoop or shaker... Different rear end, etc I may have gone for it. But like I said I am practical and the flash doesn't do it for me, not sure if a lower geared rear end would either... exciting off the line but gas-hungry on the highway... But that's why there's the R&T, for the more practical performance... If you're gonna have a limited edition race-looking car... Go with lower rear end and aggressive styling.

I have posted previously, but main reason was a rear wheel drive with horse power Dodge with great looks and yes color was very important to me. I finally got my Plum Crazy Charger. I have always loved the high impact colors and for years all I could find was red, black, blue and some shade of grey or silver or puke brown/bronze.

I ordered an '08 Challenger SRT8 (Hemi Orange) back in December and decided last weekend to abandon it and get the Charger instead.
Right now, I'm more than satisfied with my choice. However, the mods start this weekend.
