Just recently got a a black SE and never really had any real cars up until now. My last car was a '93 Explorer with no AC, no working gas gauge, and a bad transmission so this is a big step up. Any hints on some things I could add to it or do to it to make it a bit more fun? Also I heard it's a good idea to break in the engine, is this done through heavy acceleration or something else?

Wait in little bit till you put the peddle to the metal. At about 500 miles is when everything is normally properly lubed and ready to have fun.

I have to comment on the brakes also. For as big and heavy as this car is those brakes are amazingly good.

Does anyone know how to get that 3.5 to accelerate faster. It almost feels like it wants to take off faster but there is something holding it back???????

Thanks guys.

...pretty str8 forward...add 2 more cylinders...maybe bore them to .270, get some 9.6:1 compression working...bigger intkage manifold and some hemispherical cylinder heads....yeah...that oughta work. It should end up roughly 345 c.i.d. and net you an extra 90-100 ponies for you effort.

Honestly...the 3.5 is still a very powerful 250hp if memory serves. Replace the stock cold air intake for starters. Think about a free flowing exhaust set up. Both will give you some add'l ponies and seat of pants fun.

Good luck,

D

LOL
Good one.
That intake will be one of the first things to change.
I don't plan on doing to much under the hood - otherwise you would be 100% correct - may as well have bought a HEMI by the time you get done putting the $$$ into the 3.5.
It's perfect for what I need. The 50 mile trip to/from work.....

Are there any guidelines for when modding can take place? It seems like I'd want to use the car mod free for a bit and break it in before I change anything.

EDIT: Also what does turning ESP off do for overall performance?

I just purchased my very first new car (my wife had to get her van first) a Black SE - base model. I went through the affiliate rewards program and through a little haggling was able to get it for $19,500 out the door which is exactly where I needed it to be to fit within my meager budget. I know the 3.5 isn't as powerful as the Hemi, but I can't help but feel that she wants to take off whenever there's a stretch of open road ahead.

I've never had as much fun driving a car as I have with this one, and I've only had it for about a week :D .

I know next to nothing about cars and I'm gonna be counting on everyone on this site for the next coupla years so I'm gonna thank everyone in advance, I've already learned alot just scanning through the forums.

Grats on the new rides everybody. I considered buying the SE and adding some nice rims, but my wife and I test drove an R/T .. all she says now is HEMI or nothing. Whatever Charger you bought, it's a sweet ride just cruising anywhere.
