Hey everyone,

Was thinking about getting the oem REC nav unit for my mango. What do I need to accomplish this. I was looking around on the forum and I know I need the nav unit, the navigation dvd, the nav antenna, and a new center stack bezel.

Here some questions..Do they update the Nan dvd? If you bought it from someone other than dodge how do you get the upates? Does dodge sell the bezel in the gomango color? Is the install difficult to do by yourself?

Thanks.

Dude, you need to start coming to NoVA Meet and Greets. I installed my REC myself and it took 5 minutes. Yes, there are updated navigation discs and I gave out extras to people who showed up last week that needed them. The latest version is from October 2006 and the model number ends in AE. In the meantime, we have also cracked the limitation that prevents you from using the buttons on the NAV while the car is in motion. Now you can enter new addresses and access all of the submenus, even if you're driving down the road.

Thanks Titan.

I was going to come to the meet and greet last week, but I had an appointment with my loan officer for buying my first home. It lasted longer than I thought. As long as I'm not up in NJ this weekend I'll be at the next one.

Does the bezel come in gomango color?

Never seen one or the part number, but it would have to. The SubLime I saw today came with an REC and it had the SubLime bezel. I'll find one and let you know. And we are working on another meet and greet of all the usual suspects, so be on the watch.

EEK. Well, it's gonna cost you. The Silver Bezel cost me like 60 bucks or so. I had to do some part number manipulation, but this SHOULD be the part number: 1CX241VEAA and it has an MSRP of $174.00. 1CX241 is the base part code for the Daytona bezel and VEAA is the GoManGo interior part paint code. You could get the faux Carbon Fiber one for less than that. Honestly, if it were me... I would buy an $8.00 can of GoManGo spray paint at the dealer and the cheap black Nav bezel. Scrape it up, prime it, paint it, sand it with 2000 grit til it is mirror finish since it is going to be an interior piece, and clear coat it.

I guess I need to drive out there and show up too!!:) I'm going to be doing the same thing on my wife's GoMango and not being able to enter addresses on the move in my TorRed is irritating. If I want to wreck the car, I'll do it typing out messages on the BlackBerry!!

Another kinda dumb question...For anyone with the NAV, do the knobs have a chrome ring around them? I don't see them in any of the pictures. My current radio and the climate control knobs have a chome ring around them. just curious.

no the buttons on the nav unit are ALL plastic

I'm going to get a billet technologies kit to fix that - my A/C buttons have a chrome ring, the Nav doesn't match.

and mine was factory installed

PS I love the nav system, it's fairly easy to use and works very well

I just installed it this weekend... Only problem I ran across was that I didn't have th rachet set small enought to get the screws out of the Bezel for the AC control and hazzard light switch... Other then that I think it was easy, the Bezel popped right off. and easily popped back on..

Just got my unit installed. It took literally 20 minutes. Everything was a breeze. I haven't driven it yet to verify the nav function, but it seems to work. Only real problem is I get a disc error. It won't let me load any cd's. I will have to investigate further.

Sounds like someone got a bad unit. Good luck tricking the dealer into warrantying it, either, since it won't be on your build sheet. Even if they initially do it without checking the sheet first, it will get caught when they seek the reimbursement from DCx. If you know someone that had it come from the factory with NAV who is going into the shop anytime soon, swap units with them when he takes his car in ;)

DAB,

Hope you didn't do what I did... I thought I was having problems loading the CD's but actually I just didn't read the instructions, since it's a 6 CD player, you have to press 1 then press load and then load the CD... Press 2 and then load the CD, etc... also make sure you removed the shipping bracket before installing the radio, it's a metal bracket that sits on top of radio with tape on it.. take the bezel off and and you should see it...

I will try that. As soon as I press load, it flashes "ejecting disc" for an instant and then says nothing, and I hear mechanical things going on. After a few seconds it stops and says disc error.

You might want to check out www.wkjeeps.com/wk_nav.htm

It is a 22 page description of the REC radio with features, part numbers, installation etc.

It also lists all the part numbers of the REC units including MSRP prices.
An interesting comment on page 11 is:
"2005-2006 models Note: 56038636AM is the revised unit with an improved joystick. Prior models have had problems with the joystick breaking. All 2007-up models have the improved joystick. All 2007 mdoels include a 3-pin rear camera input jack on the rear of the radio.
Hope this might be of some help to you.

Thanks Donk. Good stuff in there.

JDoubleU,

I tried what you suggested, but still no good. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I was looking around on the forum and I know I need the nav unit, the navigation dvd, the nav antenna, and a new center stack bezel.

Was that all you needed? Where does the NAV antenna get mounted? Does the NAV automatically interface with your EVIC and UConnect (if you have them)?

Yes that is all you need.

Another forum member, Titan, told me how to mount the antenna. You can mount it with doublesided tape right on the lip where the dash come up. The part of the dash that rises up. You will see what I mean.

As far as the evic, I am not sure...I don't have it.

I sent mine back for replacement because the cd changer didn't work/ I should be getting the new one this week.
Really simple install, literally takes 15 minutes to do.

thanx

No printed instructions that I know of. It's very easy though. Can be done in minutes.

Well, I sent back the nav unit i bought from ebay, and they repaired it and sent it back. CD changer works like a champ.

I have my new problem however, which is totally my fault I guess. The part of the joystick where you rotate it to zoom no longer works. It turns, but no longer catches. So I can't zoom in or out. I found the part number of the actual joystick and ordered a couple. I'll have to remove the old one and solder the new one in. Should be interesting. Other than that it's great. I do need an updated nav disc though. I have AC and they are on AE.

I was wondering how the unit compares to the after market

it's the same for the Magnum... Same car on the inside.
