Remember peoples, this is not a race, it's a real learning experience, and about as much fun you can have with your pants on.
No one needs special fuel
No one needs special tires
No one needs special tuning
No one needs special suspension setup
You run the car you ride in every day, and experience all its higher end characteristics. Stuff you definitely won't find out on the streets.
And, if anyone is wondering about the pricing for this event, I challenge anyone to find a better deal anywhere for an experience like this.
If this event gets enough signups by this weekend to go ahead, we'll have a mid-morning start (10:00 am?) for the track course, and the autocross/car control course will be open from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm if there are enough paticipants.

Here is a post from Northern Rider.
"Ozzie, thanks for trying to get this off the ground.
With a bit of track racing, pro rallying, and driving instruction under my belt, I'd like to say say something to the person reading this post now who lives in the area or will be going to the Spring Festival -
Almost 100% of the car owners who come out to an event like this, leave the event with a new-found appreciation for the abilities and limits of their car.
More importantly, they go home to family and friends with their ability to stay out of a serious accident greatly improved.
It's a fact: Drivers trained in skid control and highway speed avoidance skills are much safer drivers.
Going to a day of supervised, instructed closed road driving is one of the least selfish, nicest things you can do for the people that ride with you in any vehicle you drive - even if it's a mini-van.
(One final note - stupid, dangerous driving is not tolerated at these events. Offenders are quickly flagged in and thrown off the track for the day)"
IF your on the fence GET OFF this will be a great time

Just a question WRT the crash helmets......
Is there a particular standard (kite mark etc) of helmet that is required? Will one that can be used for motorcycles be any good, or does it have to be a car racing style, flame-proof type (with the Mylar (IIRC) linings etc). Shelly and I have to buy them for this event and don't want to find on getting to the track that we do not have the correct type of helmet!!! :)
TIA
Ozzie

Here's the deal on helmets:
Participants must have a helmet. Nobody will be allowed out on the track without one. The recommended helmet is the latest Snell Automobile (SA) rated helmet (currently SA2005), though we will accept SA95 or newer.
If you are going to buy a helmet, you should get the latest SA rating. Motorcycle helmets of M90 or newer are allowed ONLY IF YOU ASK PERMISSION personally. It's also possible that if you have a friend running in a different group than you (eg. they're in the experienced group, and you're in the beginner group), that you can use their helmet, but arranging that is up to you. Helmets should fit your head without play, but they shouldn't pinch your face too much so you look like a bulldog or a fish.
Websites such as Safetyracer (http://www.saferacer.com/) have a good range of budget-priced helmets as well as top-of-the-line models at very reasonable prices.
That site also has a nifty sizing chart (http://www.saferacer.com/sizingcharts.html).

A couple questions on the track events: will all 16 (or however many) beginner/novice drivers be on the track together or do they limit to a certain number at a time? If limited, how many at once?
If there are enough participants to get the events, will it be possible for drop-ins to join the event at the door, or do all drivers need to have pre-paid and pre-registered?

If there are enough participants to get the events, will it be possible for drop-ins to join the event at the door, or do all drivers need to have pre-paid and pre-registered?Chances are all 22 drivers could be on the course at the same time in the novice group. It won't be as crowded as that sounds though. You'll be let on to the track at different intervals, so everyone will be spread out. You'll have expert instruction on what do if you are passing/being passed. And that will only happen on the straights, there'll be no Formula One moments in the corners. This will be a learning environment.
The list on post 2 has been updated to show how many slots are available before each group is considered FULL. We will accept entries until the group is full as shown. Then that's it for the track event. I don't expect those slots to last very long now.
We're planning to have the autocross session open to as many people as possible. Possibly even for same-day sign-ups, but that's not for certain. We still need about 35 pre-registations to ensure that session takes place. Then we can get more casual about it. :)
I was going to ask if open face helmets were allowed....but forgot.... :nervous sNo worries. Open face helmets are fine. Frankly, the full face ones make me claustrophobic. :ninja:

The AutoCross/Car Control course information has been updated in the first post.
Take a minute to check it out if you haven't made up your mind yet about participating.
This will be a fantastic opportunity for everyone to do a little "performance driving" with their cars in a very safe environment. No experience is necessary. No special mods are needed for your ride. You won't trash your vehicle. Just turn up and have some fun.
Oh, you WILL be a better driver when you leave that afternoon.
Check it out. (http://www.chargerforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31962)

LOL, well I know the whole point of the AutoCross is to go around the cones, but it is fun to scare them at least. Can we put little hats on them? Maybe give them signs and placards like they're protesting something?
Bottomline, we need like 21 more people to sign up and I REALLY wanna do more autocross! :D

If you need a helmet, I just purchased a G-Force Pro Force One for $249.99 with free helmet bag, headsock, and free shipping from apexperformance.net. The price was pretty much the same across all vendors for this helmet (I checked over a dozen web stores).
They gave me a coupon for 10% off an order of $150: APEX-WINS-10
I'm guessing it's generic enough that anyone can use it on their order.

Hi CG, I will already be down there the week before the event. I grew up in Orange County, and my parents live down there, so I will be visiting them ahead of time. I'm looking forward to the event, and meeting everyone at the spring fling.

Make sure that someone brings this up tonight at Beach Burger... you can get a few more I bet..If anyone who showed up at BB last Friday expressed interest in the autocross, have them sign up ASAP. Our extension for finalizing this deal ends this week, and we still need 9 more pre-registered entrants.
Interesting breakdown on the autocross signups:
12 Magnums
8 Chargers
5 300Cs
ONLY 5 300Cs????
A few more 300C drivers need to step up, don't you think?
And all you Charger guys.....scared off by a bunch of station wagons????

Haaa!!! That's a great line , Mike. I alluded to this image at Willow Springs Raceway last Friday. I had just come off a session where the OzWagon totally humiliated a bunch of boy racers, even lapping a few of them. A bunch of them were standing around in the pits, and I slowly cruised by and said; "Hey, I'm going to the supermarket for groceries. Anybody need anything."
I thought I was being totally hilarious...
Nobody laughed....
Oh well......
Enough of that...back on topic....
Any more Chargers for the track? I'll pick up the groceries.

All groceries aside, I'm looking forward to being on the track with you and the rest of my LXtended family...
C'mon Chargers, let's make a showing! This will be my first time on a closed course of any type, and I'm not looking to impress anybody, it's just going to be great to be able to put my car through its paces to expand the limits of my ability, and explore the limits of the car - all in a closed environment with nothing to lose and a whole lot to learn!
What an advantage on the road it'll be to have been in those situations under these conditions - there's really no better way to become a better driver...

Congratulations to everybody who signed up already. We've covered the minimum number of entries needed to proceed with the autocross. There's still plenty of room for participants in this event. So get your entry in.
We are building a great list of prizes, contributed by our supporting forum vendors, for our big drawing on Sunday, March 25 at California Speedway. But you gotta be in it to win it!
We'll announce these prizes very soon.

Another stoopid question! At the track/auto-cross events, I will be loath to run with all my gear in the boot (suitcase(s), spare rims and tyres (x2) and other junk) so is there an area where those that are participating can empty the car, or are we expected to look after each others gear during the events? We will be checking out of the hotel on Sunday orning so will have to have all our clobber with us. :)

We will be checking out of the hotel on Sunday orning so will have to have all our clobber with us. :)Not a stupid question at all. This situation is a real issue at EVERY track event. Here's how it works: Once you've claimed your parking spot, make a little pile of your stuff, and that immediate area is "yours" for the remainder of the day. People coming in will need to park elsewhere. (There's PLENTY of room, by the way).
I'm usually too uncomfortable about that generally accepted practice to leave say, my laptop, in my "pile." So I keep that gear in the car, securely strapped down in an out-of-the-way/out-of-sight location. I figure if I prang my ride bad enough to bang up my securely stashed gear, then frankly, a broken laptop will be the very LEAST of my problems. :)

That's a luxury we don't have. I might talk to the Double Tree and see if they are willing to hold some of our gear for us until we're ready to leave - although this does mean that we will have to go back, rather than just bog off....
