I see a lot of threads talking about conventional vs. synthetic for "breakin" or to extend their between oil change interval.. But isn't the Dodge 5w-20 a synthetic anyhow? Isn't that what you are running from the factory?

I'm not sure about the 5.7L, but I spoke with the service dept. at the local Dodge dealer and he stated that the 6.1L requires 0W-40 and that is only available in synthetic.
I also called my local Advanced Auto Parts store and the only 0W-40 available is Mobil 1 synthetic. I really don't have much choice for my SRT8 since it appears this is the only lubricant available per the mfgs. recommendations.

ok, i had always understood that you were supposed to break in a motor on regular oil, and then change to synthetic.
is that still true on the srt8? does it come from the factory with natural oil, or synthetic?
hmm.

Service Dept. Mgr. at the Tampa dealership stated that the SRT8 6.1L comes from the factory with synthetic. He also stated that 0W-40 is only available in synthetic.

Also noticed that the oil change interval is 6,000 miles.
I will be changing my "oil" this week with 1,200 miles just in case the break-in left some impurities.

Probably a smart move.
Now, is there anyone running synthetic that will actually change every 6k? That seems like pushing it, or am I just being paranoid?

Greetings,
What about the RT? Should I use synthetic?

I'm going to use synthetic 5-W20 and filter every 5000 miles, after reading the owners manual and seeing that my driving habits are more inline with the "A" service recomendations.
I don't know about you guys, but 5W20 is getting kinda hard to find here in South Florida, how 'bout at your end of the world ?

Ok, so we know the SRT is Synthetic.. Any info on what Dodge actually uses in the RT?

My Dodge dealership added Synthetic to my R/T. According to them all HEMI engines require to use it..
