First I should mention that I had tried the new Mopar iPod interface and for the same issues or bugs that were reported by others, I returned the interface to the dealer where I bought it for a full refund. I already had a 40GB Creative Zen Xtra MP3 player but, I bought an 80GB iPod just for the convenience of using it with the new interface. It seems like there ought to be a better way to control an iPod and this is what I'm thinking would work.
I am thinking about installing the TVandNAV2go for video and also installing the PAC-AAI-CHY auxiliary input module for sound. On the iPod I would connect the AV Connection kit to the top of the iPod and then connect that cable to one of the inputs on TVandNAV2go and the PAC interface. Now this is where it gets interesting. How about connecting the Harman/Kardon drive+play controller to the docking port. I wouldn't be concerned about looking at the drive+play display if the iPod would display everything on the NAV screen (including menus). I would keep the iPod in the glove box or console and put the drive+play control knob in one of the cup holders where it would be easily accessed when using and out of sight when the cup holder is closed. The drive+play control knob mimics the controller on the iPod and the drive+play not only charges the iPod, it will also stop and resume play when you get in and out of the car. The price of the drive+play has now dropped to $100 and this seems like a good solution.
So here are the questions:
1. Does the iPod output the menus and video when using the AV Connection kit or just the video during play?
2. Has anyone used the drive+play controller and if so, are there any positive or negative comments to be aware of?
3. Would the drive+play interfere with outputting the audio and video using the AV Connection kit?
For those that already have TVandNAV2go:
4. How does it behave when using Uconnect? I doubt that the NAV screen would display caller ID info but the EVIC should still work.
5. Does muting of the audio source work okay and resume normally when Uconnect is finished?
6. When playing DVDs, does it fill the NAV screen and are images in proper aspect ratio?
The other video and audio input would probably be used for a DVD player or camera.
If this would work, it seems like it would be a very clean installation and make a very good way to see the iPod menu on the NAV screen and an easier way to control it.
