I have some questions about that new Pioneer Navi system if anybody knows.
I currently have the stock Navi System, but would be interested in about a year in upgrading to this new Pioneer system. Unfortunately I know very little about Car Audio:
1) Is the size the same as the stock Navi, or will I have to customize the bezel?
2) Does it work using the existing GPS Antenna in our car, or do I have to have an additional one installed?
3) I have the built-into-rearview-mirror Blue-Tooth setup (stock) right now, will the AVIC-D3 work with this?

I looked up the radio at http://www.crutchfield.com
-------
Installation Details for your 2006 Charger
» A receiver mounting kit is needed to install an aftermarket receiver.
» The factory navigation system will be lost if radio is replaced.
» You'll lose factory SIRIUS Satellite Radio capability if you replace the factory radio.
» If your vehicle is equipped with a factory hands-free cell phone interface, it will be lost if the radio is replaced.
-------
So it is not a clean fit in the standard bezel. There are some other things to consider too.

why would you want to change the stock unit for the pionerr D-3? is it that u want to be able to play DVD? if so then i can make your stock unit play DVD. iam a A.S.E certified electric tech and a M.E.C.P repair tech and have 3 car tint and stereo stores in south fla and we do this to stock units all the time. if u change to a new unit you will have to buy a new blue tooth-sirus unit- mount a new antenia- and a steering wheel control interface. and the D-3 = a nice chunk of change!!!

I wasn't the original poster, but for me, the reason I considered it (though never seriously) was for live traffic updates.

It is not the service their talking about, it is the capability of recieving the signal. The Sirius is reciever isthe thing on top of your car and a seperate module somewhere in the dash that plugs into your radio. I am not sure you can plug that module into the AVIC and you may need to buy another.

Th Can-Bus of the LX cars was meant to allow installation of aftermarket hardware that would specifically be able to link up with the Vehicle speed sense stuff for navigation ... and I thought the aftermarket units would retain some way to control the vehicle using the steering wheel controls .... and maybe still EVIC support.
.... do you guys know if the steering wheel controls would still work with this unit? It'd suck if you suddenly lost the most convenient of interfaces with an upgrade.

Being that I dont have Nav, U connect or sirius I am seriously considering this unit. I have the 6 CD RAC radio. I dont listen to CD's, I have my IPOD hooked up with the tape adapter. I have a Blackberry with a earpiece, so the hands free will be good. Plus it will play IPOD video+ Navigation + DVD and be touchscreen for $1k.. seems like a great deal for us non nav guys.
When I install I will send a line out to a sub/amp setup. I am thinking about upgrading the Boston acoustics with some Pioneers. I will post pics as soon as this unit is for sale.
Has anyone seen it available yet?
thx for info

the only problem i see with this over the stock nav is no radio station/nav directions on the evic.

I had the first Avic-D1 in my previous car (Lincoln LS). It was a great unit and it didn't have the iPod or DVD capabilties. The Nav portion worked well and the touchscreen was a nice touch. I spend well more then $1k on the unit and was still happy. I would have waited for this unit if I knew it was coming. Instead I purchased a Garmin Nuvi but I guess thats the way I go, I guess I got to keep my Sirius so its ok.

I am a big Pioneer fan, but Boston Acoustic to Pioneer speakers is not an upgrade. Even the stocker BA's

What speakers would you recommend? I am most concerned with the 2 rears, they sound pretty pathetic. I am thinking of 2 free air subs placed in that spot. I would like to keep my trunk space. Any thoughts on a that type of set-up?
I appreciate all info!

If you guys have questions about retaining your steering wheel controls... check out my thread about aftermarket equipment.... You can keep you steering wheel controls with most aftermaket head units as long as the unit has a remote sensing wire...

Does any one have the pioneer AVIC-Z1? How do you like it and does it come with everything in the box? (ie, rear camera, bluetooth, and ect.?)
