so today I was out in the garage experimenting with how best to wire in a backup camera monitor. I had a cigarette adapter plugged in, and accidently touched the two bare wires on the other end together, which has resulted in me losing power to the cigarette lighter plug, and also the power outlet in the console. (everything else works fine) I have checked the corresponding fuses (#9 console power, and #18, selectable power outlet) but still no power to the two outlets ! Can anyone help me out with what do try next ? I will disconnect the battery next time I try any wiring ! :(

Well -- without knowing exactly which fuse you need to replace.... my advise would be to check the individual fuses in the trunk and under the hood until you find the culprit.... then replace it :)

just did that, and all check out with the ohm meter !

Well unless you put a fuse in the wrong place.... And being that all of your fuses check out as being able to conduct... I guess there would be a possibility of the short you accidentaly created melting a wire or connection "open" somewhere in the wiring system for that circuit.... but I can't imagine that occurring without a load on the circuit... so it has to be a fuse... IMHO :)

Just a few thoughts, some of this you might already know.

Fuse 9 is in the power distribution center in the trunk and supplies power to the power outlet in the center console.

Fuse 18 is also in the power distribution center in the trunk and supplies power to the cigarette lighter/power outlet in the dash. This fuse can be installed to have the outlet live at all times or only with the key in the ACC/ON position. With the fuse in the ACC/ON position, power comes to the fuse through a relay. If you're configured for ACC/ON AND the relay was damaged, fuse 18 could be good but you'll still have no power. You can make sure fuse 18 is in the always on location to get around this issue.

Also, the cigarette lighter plug you were using when the problem occured could have a fuse inside it and THAT one might have blown. Have you tried other devices in the power jacks to see if they work (and it's not just the plug you were testing with)?

Hope this helps.

thanks for your help ! I have managed to get all electricals working again, and have the cigarette lighter powered until the door of the car is opened, so that's pretty much perfect. Don't ask me how I did it , as I was trying different fuse locations hoping to stumble on the original factory setup. I did have to add a 20 amp fuse to a formerly empty slot (#17) to make all this work, so that's a little odd . At any rate, everything as of today works 100%, so I'm happy. I assume disconnecting the negative battery cable would prevent such disasters in the future ?

LOL

Glad to hear you got everything working again.
