So what is the difference between the Can-B integrated and the FM-bonded? Does the Can-B hard plug into the back of the head instead of wrapping around the antenna? Does the Can-B allow the use of the steering wheel controls for iPod control?

News Release:
---------------------------------
CENTER LINE, Mich., Jan 04, 2007 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ --
Mopar(R), DaimlerChrysler's original equipment manufacturer, announced it has expanded availability of its factory-engineered iPod(R) Integration Kits for most Chrysler Group vehicles. The audio integration system accessory was launched in early 2006.

The iPod Integration Kit from Mopar Authentic Accessories provides direct connectivity between the customer's iPod and the vehicle's audio sound system. Offering true interface, the iPod attaches to the custom cable port located in the glove box. The iPod adaptor module is concealed under the vehicle dash, translating and then sending the signal to the vehicle's radio receiver.

Once attached, all iPod control functions are available through the vehicle's audio sound system. This hardware interface provides optimal digital audio quality so all passengers can enjoy the iPod tracks. Using the audio system or steering wheel controls, drivers can browse their iPod music collection of playlists, song titles, and artists that are viewable on the radio display face. Radio display and audio prompt features vary between radio model. While the iPod is connected to the cable port, it's continually charging - whether it's playing or turned off.

"People love their iPods and they love their cars. Expanding availability of our iPod Integration Kits means more Chrysler Group vehicle owners can hit the road and enjoy both," said Chris Cortez, Senior Vice President - Global Service & Parts, Chrysler Group. "This iPod accessory lets our customers put 'their' music on hassle-free. We're committed to pioneering OEM accessories to enhance the driving experience for our customers."

The popular iPod, iPod Mini, iPod Photo, iPod Nano and iPod Video are compatible with Mopar's audio integration systems. iPod device is sold separately.

Specifically engineered to interface with select model year 2006 and newer Chrysler, Jeep(R) and Dodge vehicle electronics, the iPod Integration Kits from Mopar are available for purchase and installation at Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge dealerships across the country.

The following iPod Integration Kits are available:
* Can-B Integrated (#82209617AC, M.S.R.P. - $215) for the Chrysler Aspen, Chrysler PT Cruiser, Chrysler 300, Dodge Magnum, Dodge Charger, Dodge Caliber, Dodge Ram, Dodge Durango, Dodge Dakota, Jeep Compass, Jeep Patriot, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Commander

* J-1850 Integrated (#82209616AC, M.S.R.P. - $179) for the Jeep Liberty, Dodge Caravan and Grand Caravan, Chrysler Town & Country and Chrysler Pacifica

There are also two FM-modulated versions available:
* FM-Bounded (#82210181, M.S.R.P. - $139) for Jeep Liberty, Jeep Commander, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep Compass, Jeep Patriot, Chrysler Pacifica, Chrysler 300, Chrysler PT Cruiser, Chrysler Aspen, Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Caravan and Grand Caravan, Dodge Charger, Dodge Magnum, Dodge Ram, Dodge Caliber, Dodge Dakota, Dodge Durango

* FM-Bounded (#82210848, M.S.R.P. - $139) for Jeep Wrangler, Dodge Nitro, Chrysler Sebring, Dodge Avenger

The iPod Integration Kit will be installed in a Chrysler 300C at the North American International Auto Show. Visit the Alpine Electronics of America booth for a device demonstration.

The iPod Integration Kit from Mopar is covered under DaimlerChrysler's 3- year/36,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty or Mopar's 12-month/12,000-mile Limited Warranty, whichever is more favorable to the customer. These warranties are serviced by Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge dealerships.

It appears from the release that the iPod is actually plugged in to the port in the glove box. If so, I suppose that you would just leave the iPod in the glove box and use the stereo or steering wheel controls. Do you know if you need the NAV radio to view iPod information?

Well the plug for teh Ipod is in the glove box, no reason you couldn't modify it to a base in the ashtray if you wanted to keep it out.

I have seen looking at - Ashtray iPod (http://www.2point5.com/)

There is an error in the part number that was listed in the press release. The correct part number is 82209617, no suffix. The part number is set up and inventory is available at the vendor.

interesting, but that website has fewer details than this thread..:D
I wish the Dodge release had a link to show the product, functionality, EVIC tie in, etc....

WE just backed up wifey's ipod last night...it took 20 700mb discs to back up the 350 discs we loaded on it. Pretty amazing.

I put the dlo homedock deluxe into my home theater last week. The boys Mini, Nano and wifey's G5 video Ipod all work flawlessly on this thing. VERY COOL!

Thanks! I just ordered part number 82209617, they say it will be here Wednesday! I'll be installing wtih the REC NAV radio. I have SAT but not a VES. Hopefully it will connect on the VES port.

I found an FM bounded install guide here:

It should be a good basis for installing the integrated unit.

Somone on the jeeps unlimited forum is posting that the 82209617 IPOD Integration unit wipes out the Sirius channel presets each time you switch modes. This would suck! Anyone using this on the VES port?

Hmm. guess there are still bugs then. I would consider that not acceptable. I wonder if it will not erase the Sirius channels if it is plugged into the VES port on the back of the radio, as I do not have VES.

All they are selling is a molded doc for the ashtray, the idea being you plug your intagration cable into the base and the base is an extention of the system. Not overly special about it, just shows your ipod in teh ashtray vs the glove box.

Yes, you can. There is an additional harness required. It is listed on page 4 of the owner's manual. It is 5191195AA. It is basically a Y harness in case the customer has Sirius, CD changer, rear seat video, or U-Connect.

So.. I have the NAV radio, Sirius, but no VES. So I think I do not need the 5191195AA harness, correct? I should be able to plug the Ipod interface to the VES port on the back of the radio?

Yes, you will need the harness. All the componets listed use the same 10 pin port. So you should already have the Sirius radio plugged in there.

well that kinda sucks. $215 for the adapter, and no harness. wonder how much that will cost? Sounds like a $250 project. Not worth it for me, since I put all my ipod songs onto 5 CDs as MP3.
Guess I will see what others say abut how it all works.
I figured I would have a free port in the back of my radio since I did not have VES and would plug the interface into that.
If anyone knows the price of the harness, please post.

I have not seen one yet. Just saw the press release and ordered them on Monday. I should have them in this week. I will check into it. I drive a 2004 Durango and I have Sirius, so I'll be a test dummy. If there is an issue, I have a contact at Mopar I can alert.

Kind of my thought too. Plus I have the VES, uConnect, Sirius, etc....I don't want to LOSE functionality when trying to ADD functionality. Guess I'll stick to my MP3 discs as well.

Can't wait for the MYGIG replacements. I will have to look hard into that since it sounds like a better thought our install.

In addition to loosing SAT presets, I'm very disappointed with the following operation:

Play mode settings get lost when the car is stopped/started. I tested this with Playlists and with playing a specific Genre. After the car is stopped/started the iPod resumes the song it was playing, but resumes playing in the default mode which seems to be all songs on the iPod. It also will lose shuffle mode if you were using that mode and you have to re-select that again.

Switching in and out of UConnect, it goes back to the SAT. You have to press Mode to get back to the iPod. At least it resumes properly in the mode which it was playing.

Going in and out of NAV mode works fine and resumes properly.
