Just Bought an 06 R/T Need Simple Mods To Start

I just bought an 06 R/T because they dropped the price so much. I have owned three( 2 05's and an 06 ) GTO's and I can tell the lack of power the R/T has but its not as bad as the GTO guys make it out to be on their forum. Are there any simple, inexpensive mods to start out with to give it a little more hp? Realistically, what kind of hp can you actually pull out of the 5.7 and does anyone know of a place near Charlotte, NC where I can get a tune? Thanks in advance.

I would start with the SuperChips tuner first....catback exhaust...those 2 would eat $1k....as far as power..if ya got the money a 1,000hp can be done...

You are going need a lot of mods to get 400hp at the wheels....my SRT is heavly modded and I'm probably around 420 maybe..

400 WHP will take about 6-8k in mods I believe. CAMs, Intake, Exhuast, Headers, Superchip/B&G Tune, PCM, TCM upgrades.

In a way, it's almost better to get a SRT-8 if you wanted the GTO *power* feel since the SRT has 425hp (380ish rwhp and can easily hit over 400 with few mods) and GTO has 400, but you can get the 5.7L to perform like an 6.1L, a few of the guys here have proved it.

You can throw a 75-100 shot nitrous on for alot cheaper. hehehe.

Simple upgrades that make the biggest difference to look at would be PCM/TCM, Reprogram w/ Superchips/B&G. I believe if you just bought an 06, it probably won't be compatible with the Superchips tune. At least not the current one on the market. Once they get the revision for the 07 version out, then look into Superchips again.

PCM : power control module
TCM : transmission control module
SuperChips: an "aftermarket" fuel/air/transmission control module that "tunes" to the performance you want ( my opinion, over rated, overpriced)
B&G Flash: B&G Performance....company speicalizes in tuning the stock PCM to allow greater fuel/airflow and increased timing to increase horsepower....

Some "budget" numbers for you: Cold Air Intake (CAI) 150-300.00 + install
Headers w/ Cat back exhaust 900-1500.00 + install
Cam Shaft upgrade 250-400.00 + Install
Performance HEADS 1500-3200.00
+install
Perfomance PCM 350.00 + Install
Performance TCM 250.00 + install
Coil Over supsension : 900-1500.00 + install

If you want some simple mods I'd go with the brylcreem mod, the esp delete mod, the auto head light mod, blinker and some silver star head lights. very cheap mods, most of which you can do on your own!
